    Honestly, I had no idea loofahs are plants! Thought they were sea sponges 🧽 cool video

      I mostly use them as a shower sponge, but they're also great for cleaning dishes! I've heard of people using them to wash their cars, but I don't know if could potentially damage the paint? Probably would be fine, but can't say for sure. Another idea I've seen is to use them in the bottom of pots as filler to allow the soil to drain more.

    Ok my mind has been BLOWN!! I had absolutely no clue that a loofah is an actual plant!!! I thought it was just another man made item. Holy cow...thanks for sharing this!!! I'm amazed!

    Thank you for this. I live in Northern CA and have a limited amount of space, but I'm going to give luffa growing a shot this year. This video series was the best out there (I've watched a lot). I'll take some photos of my progress and if I remember, will be sure to share them with you. Thanks again, and happy growing. 🙂

      I hope you have an amazing growing season and harvest! And yes, please share pics! There's not a way to do so here on RUclips, but you can find me on Facebook and Instagram (as Crafters Autonomous) to send progress pics. I love seeing others have success with this plant too!

    Thank you for this series on growing loofahs. I was gifted some seeds and I am growing loofahs now. It would be nice to see some of your craft ides for using the sponges.

      That's actually a video I've been wanting to make for a while! I've found a number of uses for them, and have played around with different ways to make loofah sponge products besides just leaving the sponge in its initial form. Maybe I'll get it put together sometime. So glad you enjoyed the videos! Hope you have an amazing harvest.

    Love your videos, very informative. I’ve grown loofah in my greenhouse for the first time and just harvested my first brown loofah and there were no seeds inside which was very disappointing. Has anyone found this before?

    My luffa plant is growing CRAZY in this FL rainy season. I've only had 1 fruit develop..what gives? You have soooooo many!

    • @CraftersAutonomous
      @CraftersAutonomous  Год назад +2

      Given the weather we've had this year, I'd guess the heat is playing a role. From what I've read, it seems like loofahs prefer to set fruit when there's a temperature change overnight. With this heat, it might not start to set fruit until we get closer to fall or even into fall. The vines in this video produced 2 gourds in June, then did nothing but grow longer vines throughout July. Finally, in August they started producing fruit like crazy. Even though August can be just as intensely hot as July, I think by that point the plants have adapted a little better to the heat by growing enough extra leaves to support growth, and I think sometimes the nights have just a smidge greater temp difference overnight in August compared to July. If the vines look otherwise healthy and thriving, I'd say you have a good chance at it producing more fruit. Might also take a little later in the year than it does for me since FL feels like summer all year round haha
      Only other thought is perhaps a nutrient deficiency. But I don't have much personal experience with fertilizing these plants, so I don't have any helpful advice there. Hope something in here is helpful and you are able to get a bunch of gourds this year!

    I was given a green loofah gourd by a fellow gardener. Should I go ahead and peel it per your video instructions or should I put it out in the sun to dry before peeling it? Thanks for such a cool video!

    • @CraftersAutonomous
      @CraftersAutonomous  Год назад +1

      Personally, I just peel once it's off the vine versus letting it sit to dry. A big part of that is because I'm in a high humidity area and the gourd tends to rot if I'm not careful. However, I know of others who are in drier climates that leave it out to dry. If it's able to dry out, it can be easier to clean and process. But personally I would peel green so I don't risk the gourd rotting.

    Is there a benefit to harvesting one color luffa over another or is it just how easy the shell comes off?

    • @CraftersAutonomous
      @CraftersAutonomous  4 месяца назад +1

      I've got a video that breaks down the advantages and disadvantages I've found from harvesting at each stage -
      ruclips.net/video/2Tb3mRb2j68/видео.html
      It's mainly a matter of preference- which way you find easiest to peel, if you want to avoid the risk of a freeze hitting before harvesting, which way is easiest to clean, if you want to save seeds, etc. The video I linked breaks down each of these in more depth. Hope it helps!

    How do you get dark spots off?

    • @CraftersAutonomous
      @CraftersAutonomous  8 месяцев назад

      Unfortunately, I haven't found a way to completely remove the dark spots. That's why I try to harvest before the sponge changes color. Some people bleach their loofahs or lighten them with hydrogen peroxide, but in my experience it doesn't remove the dark spots, just lightens everything.

      For some reason it's harder to find the acutangula seeds in the US. But they do look so fun when they're growing with the defined ridges!

    Don’t try to correct yourself so much, either re-record your audio or just let the mistake slide, it’s confusing and makes you seem less knowledgeable than you are 💚
