Isn't it great to be able to have these insights and to look closely at a picture which would originally have been high up on a ceiling - with most of the detail wasted on most of us with less than perfect eyesight
This is one of my most favorite presentations, she did such a wonderful, and passionate explanation of this beautiful painting! I love having the “hidden” meaning come to light to have an understanding of the painter’s purpose.
These brief videos have been a lovely part of my life during the pandemic. Please continue these as they truly share a level of expertise with humanity. Such a generous gift.
I like the contrasts between light and dark, young and old and in the middle, a baby. Something in the middle. It's really symbolic to me of immortality and if it's commemorating a new birth in an aristocratic family, to me it's like it's saying "may this new baby live forever."
I was already amazed through out the whole video by your excellent presentation and the painting itself, but to hear at the end that this beautiful painting was in the egyptian embassy for almost half a centruy makes me (as an Egyptian) even more in love with it
I remember seeing Tiepolo's great ceiling frescos in Wurzburg. Certainly worth the visit to see these and the baroque architecture of Balthasar Neumann. Another allegorical painting on a similar subject with some of the same characters - Venus, Father Time, Cupid, etc - is by Bronzino - a sublimely cool, precise painting compared with this much more emotional Tiepolo.
I have been to so many museums with those little audio guides and everything goes in one ear and out the other. This video was amazingly helpful and so easy to follow! I feel like I discovered a cheat sheet! Subscribed! Thank you!
Anyone else think the shape invokes that of a floor mirror of which you might be looking at a reflection of yourself and what that brings to the interpretation?
Your pronunciation is extremely good. I’m an Italian immigrant and genuinely can’t make up my mind if you are a native speaker or have dedicated an impressive amount of practice
Thank you so much Letizia, absolutely loved this and wow, I have seen this painting before but never got to hear an indepth analysis. Thank you national gallery for doing this series- love and gratitude, from india
I’ve heard that there was an era in the past where painters used male models with prop breasts when they were painting female figures. ((Venus, in the painting above, is really giving me that vibe.)) Could anyone with the proper historical knowledge let me know if this is something true, or just a silly rumor? I’d really appreciate it!
When I was in college, I hated art history... Now, I love hearing and understand the background of these paintings. Candidly, I would just scan, snap a picture if I were at the museum. Thank you for the background.
Thank you Ms. Treves! (I like a lot your English).
Your explanation is also amazing and extraordinary, beautiful painting and outstanding artist, so beautiful to hear and watch, thank you for sharing such magnificent information.
I was in the National Gallery last weekend and remember seeing this painting and thinking that the shape was very unique. Then this randomly appeared in my RUclips recommended today 😂
I did Tiepolo in my « Tesina » in Italy when I finished High school there.. The curator of the Tiepolo Museum ,Ms Bross, gave me a private tour; she was so passionated! All this came back to me watching this... gosh people were so kind then....

Excellent presentation! Thank you, Ms. Treves. :)
You're very welcome!

I love the way Letizia is presenting! 🙏🏻

Fabulous talk, immaculately presented. Thank you!
Perfection! Not only the painting, but Letizia Treve's presentation!
Leitzia has incredible colouring as well, truly a lady of light.
Letizia Treves is hands down the most superb presenter on staff. I'll go further, she is the most superb art presenter to whom I have ever listened.
I was already amazed through out the whole video by your excellent presentation and the painting itself, but to hear at the end that this beautiful painting was in the egyptian embassy for almost half a centruy makes me (as an Egyptian) even more in love with it
You discuss the painting with electrifying energy and astounding expertise! Bravo 👏🏽
The National Gallery is my favourite museum/gallery. Every visit provides new opportunities to learn and be amazed.

When she walked up to the painting, I realized the real SCALE of the thing. It's....hauntingly big.
Brilliant explanation about that picture .
The use of color is really beautiful . 💎

I absolutely love these talks and explanations. I adore paintings and love when someone explains what is going on them.
The way it's angled is very engaging, like a scene that's happening in the sky just above you. A wonderful idea.
Great presentation. Learned, didactic, interesting and perfectly paced . It makes a difference in one’s day. Many thanks!
Glad it was helpful!
The internet was made for this! I love it!

that's so interesting!! The story behind it really enriches the viewing experience

Thank you for showing this beautiful work of Thiepolo.
Your passion for Art is evident in the presentation. Thank you.
The rose madder background really brings out the luminosity of the paint vs. the matte underpainting. What an effect
This is why I love RUclips, I learn so much. Thank you for uploading.
Thank you so much Letizia, absolutely loved this and wow, I have seen this painting before but never got to hear an indepth analysis. Thank you national gallery for doing this series- love and gratitude, from india

This is interesting! Because I've always wondered why they look like bolt ons LMAO
🔥The baby Aeneus' face is so crudely painted- why!?
Lovely to meet all these curators.
Tiepolo painted the biggest fresco in the world too - visited a while back, absolutely stunning.
Thank you very much - I always find your videos interesting and informative.
When I was in college, I hated art history... Now, I love hearing and understand the background of these paintings. Candidly, I would just scan, snap a picture if I were at the museum. Thank you for the background.
Tiepolo's sketches with a wash, (tint), are the finest way to study the magic of making a form 3 dimensional in space.
Enjoyed the talk. Tiepolo is one of my favourite artists. Saw this painting a couple of months ago.
Another delightful and engaging seminar - I look forward to the next one!
