More than a videogame i would say this is designed after the hell from Dante Alighieri's "Divina Commedia". Impel down is pretty much a simplified version of his hell.

One interesting thing here when it comes to allying with previous enemies is that I think it highlights Luffy's ability for the Past to be left in the Past. Crocodile was an ass. Luffy beat the crap out of him. Scales are now balanced. Running into him again now, that score has been settled, and Luffy doesn't hold grudges, so he Judges Croc on his actions in the here and now, and if he's willing to help, so be it. We've seen this already twice with Franky and Robin joining the crew: the ultimate show of trust, even though they actively hurt the current crew at the time when they first met them as villains. I have further thoughts as why this is the case, but that's deep into spoiler/theory territory, so I''ll leave it at that for now :3
Welp tbh Luffy didn't want to get Crocodile out, Ivankov had to convice him by blackmailing Crocodile. I think Luffy does hate those that are truly evil unless they apologize and say that they changed like Caribou
For Luffy's philosophy, he chose the pirate live. So he acknowledge there no fair and unfair for people who chose this path. But if civilian became the victims of pirates, then he will protect that person. If you noticed luffy will plunder another pirate's wealth every time. So the conclusion is he is chaotic to the people who chose the pirate life but hate it when civilians or normal people affected by it.

Seeing his vivre card burning at first doesn't make luffy just want to go save him, because he knows ace chose the pirates life. The main issue is that luffy has yet to see a true negative consequence of his actions. Information is a lot harder to gather in the one piece world, and most of the time the results he does see come from his actions are always positive. He doesn't care about the long term effects of his actions when he needs help NOW, and he isn't the type to get hung up on "what could I have done" when there is nothing he could have done. But he has shown to at least consider the long term consequences of what he does, so we truly dont know how he would react if say, crocodile destroyed syrup village because luffy freed him.
His team: so, a wanna be Pirate King, a powerful Ninja type killer, a thief, a perv, a lier, a monster, a murdering Cyborg who does like to build heavy weapons, an assassin, etc... You can read One Piece totally differently. Newbie here, but this could be a (rather sad) take on the overall story. Could be such a 18o at the very end. I'd bet on such an issue. (That and reincarnation of Roger in Luffy, so, so heavily foreshadowed from the earliest arcs).
There are bunch of discussions and conclusions about this, but the one that I like is that Luffy wants to be free above all so he helps people who can't be free by themselves. I think he's a chaotic good.

Don't count on arcs getting shorter from here. Just PLEASE DON'T compromise on the substance to shorten the length of future reviews. There's going to be A LOT of substance packed in future arcs, especially once you start seeing the interconnected and heavily foreshadowed nature of One Piece.

*No spoilers* Being caught up on the anime vs meeting Jimbei for the first time in Impel Down, i can't believe how much has happened since then like wow he's one of my favorite characters
I think the Impel Down crew of Luffy, Buggy, Mr. 3, Bonclay, Crocodile, Jinbei, Ivankov, and Mr. 1 had a really fun dynamic that made the lack of the other SH in this arc not hurt as much.
Impel Down is a great arc cause it shows what happens when Luffy greatest strength his crew is not with him. His natural leader ability of getting people on his side through just being himself and circumstances that makes them work with him. You believe in him after defying great odds almost dying he can make miracles happen! Great set up for next arc feeling that way going into it.
Your theory is... Interesting kkkkkk. Please, keep doing them, it's a lot a fun. This balance between what we expect from the tips Oda gives us and what actually happens make the story hits even harder.

Man I did the maths the other day, and I've been following one piece for like 15+ years since I was a kid... I remember this was the arc that made me go back and actually start looking at the lore I had missed as a child. It's been so much ridiculous fun seeing you go through the story and vicariously get to "see it" again for the "first time" :') It makes me so happy you're so into the story!!

4Kids being a company wanting to make squeaky clean content made One Piece being foisted upon them a big mistake on all parties, though this doesn't absolve their bad business practice from the start. It was awful to go far beyond standard 'localization' in favor of gross "Americanization'. I'll never forgive them for marring the career of David Moo so thoroughly with how they directed Sanji, David Moo is a fantastic actor.

Love your theory and I'm glad you enjoyed Impel Down so much. Jinbei and Bon Kurei (which is just a romanization of Bon Clay btw) were the MVPs for this arc. Between Bon-chan's crusade for the sake of FRIENDSHIP and Jinbei not only keeping Luffy's head in the game, but also being 50% of the reason they were even able to escape. Also, one of my favorite and less talked about puns from the arc was the Sphinx and his noodle (men) obsession; especially when he broke the floor and said "Gomen" aka "Sorry" in Japanese.

More than a videogame i would say this is designed after the hell from Dante Alighieri's "Divina Commedia". Impel down is pretty much a simplified version of his hell.

Yeah this part of the story is where you realize that Luffy was just a big fish in a small pond. Now he's a small fish in a massive ocean. There is a reason Luffy is called a rookie. He really is just a hotshot newbie on the Grand Line.
Luffy has had a LOT of luck in his journey. Kuma was basically when he ran out of that luck.

Water 7/Enies Lobby is pretty much almost universally seen as the best arc overall, for good reasons - but many other arcs come close, or surpass it for many others
One interesting thing here when it comes to allying with previous enemies is that I think it highlights Luffy's ability for the Past to be left in the Past. Crocodile was an ass. Luffy beat the crap out of him. Scales are now balanced. Running into him again now, that score has been settled, and Luffy doesn't hold grudges, so he Judges Croc on his actions in the here and now, and if he's willing to help, so be it.
We've seen this already twice with Franky and Robin joining the crew: the ultimate show of trust, even though they actively hurt the current crew at the time when they first met them as villains. I have further thoughts as why this is the case, but that's deep into spoiler/theory territory, so I''ll leave it at that for now :3
Welp tbh Luffy didn't want to get Crocodile out, Ivankov had to convice him by blackmailing Crocodile. I think Luffy does hate those that are truly evil unless they apologize and say that they changed like Caribou
For Luffy's philosophy, he chose the pirate live. So he acknowledge there no fair and unfair for people who chose this path. But if civilian became the victims of pirates, then he will protect that person. If you noticed luffy will plunder another pirate's wealth every time. So the conclusion is he is chaotic to the people who chose the pirate life but hate it when civilians or normal people affected by it.
@PRIJITH PJ yeah, his friends who doesn't choose the pirates life. When ace is going to be executed. Seeing his vivre card burning at first doesn't make luffy just want to go save him, because he knows ace chose the pirates life. But when he ultimately know that ace is going to die, he goes to save him because he wants to.

also I doubt he even put togetherthat the prisoners were in the place for a reason, in fact I'm not sure he even fully understands what crime is.
The main issue is that luffy has yet to see a true negative consequence of his actions. Information is a lot harder to gather in the one piece world, and most of the time the results he does see come from his actions are always positive. He doesn't care about the long term effects of his actions when he needs help NOW, and he isn't the type to get hung up on "what could I have done" when there is nothing he could have done. But he has shown to at least consider the long term consequences of what he does, so we truly dont know how he would react if say, crocodile destroyed syrup village because luffy freed him.
His team: so, a wanna be Pirate King, a powerful Ninja type killer, a thief, a perv, a lier, a monster, a murdering Cyborg who does like to build heavy weapons, an assassin, etc...
You can read One Piece totally differently.

(That and reincarnation of Roger in Luffy, so, so heavily foreshadowed from the earliest arcs).
There are bunch of discussions and conclusions about this, but the one that I like is that Luffy wants to be free above all so he helps people who can't be free by themselves. I think he's a chaotic good.
Impel Down is a parallel of The Devine Comedy. it has parallels to the different levels of hell

But she has done her role as the navigator beautifully after time skip. They have had no problems with getting lost at sea even once since the time skip. that accounts for something imo .

Don't count on arcs getting shorter from here. Just PLEASE DON'T compromise on the substance to shorten the length of future reviews. There's going to be A LOT of substance packed in future arcs, especially once you start seeing the interconnected and heavily foreshadowed nature of One Piece.
Speaking if long arcs, 👗🌹 had me so pissed off it took me a year to go through it

Luffy’s defeat to Magellan and that final scream asking for Ace is one of my favorite parts of this arc.
Ivankov was so wonderfully funny in this, from his make up joke to his distractive winking that you'd think that he can airbend through those lashes

I think the Impel Down crew of Luffy, Buggy, Mr. 3, Bonclay, Crocodile, Jinbei, Ivankov, and Mr. 1 had a really fun dynamic that made the lack of the other SH in this arc not hurt as much.

Impel Down is a great arc cause it shows what happens when Luffy greatest strength his crew is not with him. His natural leader ability of getting people on his side through just being himself and circumstances that makes them work with him. You believe in him after defying great odds almost dying he can make miracles happen! Great set up for next arc feeling that way going into it.
Your theory is... Interesting kkkkkk. Please, keep doing them, it's a lot a fun. This balance between what we expect from the tips Oda gives us and what actually happens make the story hits even harder.

Impel Down is one of my absolute favourite arcs, again Oda surprised me bc I did not expect at all for all these previous villain's to come in and make this crew with Luffy. I LOVE crossovers and damn, this was such a fun time, it holds a super special place in my heart. Just so much fun (and so much pain 😭 Bonclay my love... 💔) we also saw Luffy's drive to save his brother and such beautiful moments with Ace and his regrets and worries about Luffy ❤️ so precious. Have fun with the next arc! It's gonna be a doozy lol

Man I did the maths the other day, and I've been following one piece for like 15+ years since I was a kid... I remember this was the arc that made me go back and actually start looking at the lore I had missed as a child. It's been so much ridiculous fun seeing you go through the story and vicariously get to "see it" again for the "first time" :') It makes me so happy you're so into the story!!

4Kids being a company wanting to make squeaky clean content made One Piece being foisted upon them a big mistake on all parties, though this doesn't absolve their bad business practice from the start. It was awful to go far beyond standard 'localization' in favor of gross "Americanization'. I'll never forgive them for marring the career of David Moo so thoroughly with how they directed Sanji, David Moo is a fantastic actor.

It's so cute and predictable seeing Daniel falling into the trap like so many others of trying to theorize about One Piece but at least he got one thing right but most people do, so I can't wait to see his reaction on the upcoming arc and the outcome of said arc.

Love your theory and I'm glad you enjoyed Impel Down so much. Jinbei and Bon Kurei (which is just a romanization of Bon Clay btw) were the MVPs for this arc. Between Bon-chan's crusade for the sake of FRIENDSHIP and Jinbei not only keeping Luffy's head in the game, but also being 50% of the reason they were even able to escape.
Also, one of my favorite and less talked about puns from the arc was the Sphinx and his noodle (men) obsession; especially when he broke the floor and said "Gomen" aka "Sorry" in Japanese.
