- Hear 'n Aid was a one-off project of the heavy metal/hard rock scene of the 1980s to raise money for famine relief in Africa. According to Ronnie James Dio's MySpace profile, the project raised $1 million within a year.
The song was recorded on May 20 and 21 1985 at the A&M Records Studio in Hollywood, California. The project included contributions from Ted Nugent, Yngwie Malmsteen, Tommy Aldridge and members of Dio, Judas Priest, Iron Maiden, Quiet Riot, Dokken, Mötley Crüe, Twisted Sister, Queensrÿche, Blue Öyster Cult, Vanilla Fudge, Y&T, Rough Cutt, Giuffria, Journey, W.A.S.P. and Night Ranger as well as the parody band Spinal Tap. Lead vocals were shared between Ronnie James Dio, Rob Halford, Kevin DuBrow, Eric Bloom, Geoff Tate, Dave Meniketti, Don Dokken and Paul Shortino. Vivian Campbell, Carlos Cavazo, Buck Dharma, Brad Gillis, Craig Goldy, George Lynch, Yngwie Malmsteen, Eddie Ojeda and Neal Schon all added guitar solos. Iron Maiden's Dave Murray and Adrian Smith were in the middle of their 'World Slavery Tour' at the time and flew in to attend the main session. A documentary was shot of the recording process and released simultaneously. Видеоклипы

Yes, absolutely!!

Yes

Love it.

Today's mainstream music could never rival this.
Rest in peace: Ronnie James Dio, Kevin DuBrow, Jimmy Bain, Frankie Banali
I'd say 1975-85 was the best 10 year period of music. What made the 80s so awesome was the encyclopedia of music we had already. After 1992 it all changed. What became mainstream just flat out sucked! With the exception of course of a few bands. But the overall wave and context of music in which these few bands were played was so dumbed down and lacked actual talent. And now you don't even have to have instruments or be able to legitimately sing.
Can everybody enjoy the fucking music without this shit talking about 70's, 80"S, 90's and today music? wtf
@@KSchultz98 I don't mind it. In my opinion, nothing wrong with letting others know where you stand!
You got that RIGHT MUCHACHO!😁🤟
AMEN or LIKEWISE!
Never again will you see a group of the finest singers and guitar players, who majority are caliber human beings who understand music again. Music is trash today. Respect and enjoy this for long as it lasts. A momento to the past the wish it was still here.
Dont be such an ignorant elitist their is plenty of good music to find in this day and age.
You don't understand because you were born after like 2002. The music then and the singers who sung it wrote and made their own songs, they were not hired by someone, they did all their own work and there was a comradery amongst bands, bandmembers, and it was fun. Today music is just money money money, production production production, don't communicate or lawyers will sue, pay a writer $90,000 to slap something up on the computer and then ruin it on a mixer so it will sell on the charts. Music today is dogshit compared to back then.
Here's a good place to start if you're looking for good modern bands. shop-hellsheadbangers.com/
@@MrWolfSnack if you're not the one who did all these amazing things, then I'm not impressed nor do I care.
@@spongebitchbobface I agree, with you, about the shop-hellsheadbangers.com! As a fan rock/metal music since 1978 (I'm 49, by the way), I'm FLOORED by that site! In my opinion, when people voice or express their "disapproval" about the modern bands, I think they're talking the (more) "mainstream" rock/metal bands.
I taped this off MTV when I was a kid, over my Mother's daily soap opera VHS. Yup she was pissed. Then she watched it and wasn't so mad at me. Tomorrow would be her 79th Birthday. Thanks Mom for putting up with me and my Music. ❤
Halford, Dio, Tate, Meniketti lead vocals.., Malmsteen, Lynch, Cavazo, Schon, Gillis, Smith and Murray soloing?? This must be metal heaven... ImI
LIKEWISE! In my opinion, if ONLY Accept, Van Halen, Scorpions, AC/DC, Ozzy, Loudness, and Kiss, to name a few, were involved-HOLY HEAVY METAL!
Ozzy was jealous of Dio. He wouldn't have worked with him
I still don't get how Carlos Cavazo replaced Randy Rhoads in Quiet Riot like it was nothing. Those were some massive shoes to fill.
If Ozzy took part $haron would have claimed that he wrote all the music and lyric by himself.
@GYX453 Dude that was not only hilarious but also true !😂
To watch Halford belt out everything he had was incredible.
Indeed. Check his stratospheric harmony on the second line of the second chorus at around 1:40
I’m 20 and I would freak out if I was in that studio with all those talented musicians
I grew up in a great era of music and I think this proves it!
kevin dubrow dio and rob halford. o lord. im 21 and those 3 are my top 5
@@onyxsh0cks456 Ronnie James Dio is the best singer ever i’m 20.
@@Thomas-lx1np ye he's definitely up there. Number 1 metal for sure
Not me
What shocks me is that everyone recalls that this event was smooth and without egos getting involved.
TOTALLY AGREE MY FRIEND...
It's not too shocking to me...because the incredibly talented and humble, Ronnie James Dio, was at the helm of the project. Now...if Gene Simmons, along with his MEGA-ego, were involved...there'd be no room in the whole studio, except for him...
If these guys had RUclips channels and Instagram accounts in their time, they would have taken over the world. Pure talent. Limited resources. Winning hearts. That's what rock n roll is all about.
They did though. Heavy metal ruled the 80s.

Dio, Halford, Meniketti, Tate beasted on this song. And Meniketti is soooo unerrated.
Dude just exploded this song right out the gate
fun story : I'm currently 59 yrs. old, when this song came out (I was mid 30's), I was so blown away, as was my wife (no headbanger) that we pretty much wore out the VHS. I showed this vid to so many rockers who usually said "holy crap, what is this"? we watched it probably over 500 times and eventually the vid just wore out. Easily the best head-bang of the 80's (and while I'm a snob and don't especially care for Yngwie he does fuckin' rock)
Gene,it's 2021 and these dudes are prettier than most women.
P.S.
I concur Y.M. was rather cuntish
Buck Dharma was on there to make up for Malmsteen ;)
musically the theory is basic. Key of a minor with focus on d minor, f major, b as a leading tone. The musicians improvised over these ideas. Whats difficult is the interpretation of the music.
Yngwie is a badass on that guitar I have seen him on many occasions one word incredible. I've heard a bunch of other great guitarists talk about him and a lot of them say after watching him and hearing him they feel like turning the guitar into an end table that says a lot cuz a lot of these guys I think are just as good not in speed put in that phrasing in the heart that they play with
Halford can be heard over everyone.....nobody could come close to him back in the 80's
I noticed he sure lead the choir!

Now this is what I call music! Back when singers actually COULD sing... So many talent in this video. Tate, Dio, Halford and Malmsteen in one place can only be something really awesome! Thanks to Dio for making this whole thing, wil be forever in our hearts RIP R. J. Dio and Jimmy Bain
Backy Silverton 😁
This Was Vivian Campbell's project!! If you listen to what RJD says in this video?? He says Vivian Involved him!! Get your Facts Right!! Just Sayin!! Oh and RIP RJD and Jimmy Bain!! Saw last in Line tonight in Cincinnati Oh !! Wish Jimmy was still rocking with us!! ...... Peace
Singers nowadays can sing as well. But they are forced to use autotune to sound perfect. This singers was not perfect, they had to put a lot of effects in vocals to hide.
Music is so bad now, RIP those who are gone. Thanks for this post.
The first time (of many) that I met Geoff Tate...I had this video with me. He was happy to sign it. He said it was an enjoyable as well as a historic moment.
80's Rock RULES...🤘🏼🇺🇸🤘🏼
i LOST MINE! i WAS 20 yrs old and so excited to get it after all the hype on MTV.💖 RIP RONNIE JAMES DIO
What really scares the shit out of me (and keeps me up nights) is that this bad boy here has only 427,896 views while no talent "fly-girl" tramp Jennifer Lopez has sold 75 million records worldwide. But I can go to my grave with the \m/ held high cuz I bought (and still have) this on vinyl, and my kids listen to it now.
RIP Ronnie we miss you.
The1WhoKnowsTheTruth Hey man, I could not agree with you more. Does this mean there is no hope for the human race then? Feels like it when you see modern pop bullshit attract so much attention the way it does. This video should have way more hits. This song is epic, and despite not being a massive Dio fan myself his idea to do this project was fucking really ballsy. He did a "Live Aid" equivelent for just hard rock and heavy metal!! That's amazing!! That' one area of music!! Live Aid crossed genres so it was easier (not easy ) to raise cash tapping into many music fans wallets. This money Dio earned for those people was by the Heavy Metal community!!! Genius!! And fucking awesome song. Salute Dio for this.
RabidGerry I'm not sure I want all those fuckin' retards that dig that garbage to like the same shit I like. Let the masses have their utter crap. As far as I'm concerned, hard rock and heavy metal had the best vocalists and guitarists amongst all genres of music.
***** I like people like you :) You know I have always felt like that too but for years I had to defend the right to even like heavy metal (yes it was in the 90's). I found the most shit I got was from the "nu metaL" late 90's fraternity. Between those cunts and the fucking dance/techno music/dj people!!
I thought I had heavy metal arrogance but you just said what I always felt so there you fuckin go MAN!!!!!!!!

Amazing. Killer moment is ‘David St Hubbins’ acknowledging Yngwie ‘J’ Malmsteen...
I pissed myself watching that. Awesome
Can’t believe I just found this today.
Too...much...talent...overload...
But what a way to go
Fuckin rocks tho
Dave Murray and Adrian Smith are very polite in this video.
Dave and Adrian are still to this day giving us METAL and concerts. However I miss DIO everyday.
I say IRONMAIDEN!!! multiple time a day at work, I am known now as Bob the MAIDEN. I say IRONMAIDEN!!! every time I think of DIO - , it is over 10 times an hour.
Dave and Adrian should have got to play an actual lead. IMO they're better than most of them who played. Nugent should have got a lead slot too.
13 losers already investing in their graves. Music back then had more feeling and emotion to it than today. Someone needs to start a band and bring this stuff back. Bring the 80's back to their former glory and make the 13 idiots who disliked this beg for mercy.
45 losers now
There are a lot of new wave of traditional heavy metal bands out now that are doing great things.
48
50 now as at 10th October 2019...I'll call it... Extremely solid for a video that's punching 8 years old..++ Even though it was recorded in 1986...Hells yeah... music lives forever... !!
Lynch's solo was smokin' hot..............RIP, R.J.D.
I think a lot of people see the big hair and hear the screaming guitars and they forget just how amazingly articulate some of these guys are. Like Ronnie, Rob Halford, etc.
Rob and Vince belting out notes while facing each other, priceless! 34:39
I loved seeing how the sections formed and took shape! Interesting how some of the vocals were almost exactly as in the finished product and didn’t need much change. Hits hard at the end that even after all these years and dio being gone, his words still drive home the fact that after the song, after the words he says…it’s never really over and the fight continues on
There are now a few artists that have since passed.
R.I.P. RJD

Coke 3.56 mark mean dude that epic string of guitar solo is spellbound breathtaking.Think Phil from Def Leppard has a got a semi look alike in Rob
Like it how Vince says it's a party he would like to have these guys he would invite too good maybe a few more his bandmates weren't here what a class photo it would be some of them saying what they think Heavy Metal and Hard Rock it's better nothing
Yngwie, Brad Gillis and George Lynch tore those solos up!
I agree. Actually, they all did!
When you hear Gillis play with night ranger you only get a glimpse of what hes capable of.
When I found out Yngwie was on THIS project/rarity, I WAS IMMEDIATELY "ALL EARS!"
@@MrJackcorgi TO THIS VERY DAY, I'm, STILL, FLOORED by his guitar playing on Ozzy's 1982, "Speak of the Devil" concert! I tell ya', the WAY he used the "whammy" bar, HOLY HEAVY METAL!

Wow speechless. So many great stars in one room. RIP Dio!
Hari Menon R.I.P. Jimmy Bain.
RODRIGO ST Jimmy died a year ago. Ronnie 7 years ago.
Anyone ever imagined how Randy Rhoads contribution would have sounded like???
probably the most sophisticated yet melodic solo
EDDIE VAN HALEN also
That's a shame that Blackie doesn't get any verses to himself. The guy's a metal god.
Wasp wasn't that big back then.
And he's a loser.
BIG SHAME!
His voice was way too similar to Kevin Dubrow's also...it'd be too much of the same thing.
If you want to say they both have the Noddy Holder thing going on!
Oh wow I could watch this all day long. Rob Halford, Geoff Tate, George Lynch...those parts especially gave me chills!
I grew up to these Amazing artists, theyll never be copied or replaced " Long live ROCK AND ROLL"

Nothing can or will ever surpass the music of the 80's!
Having Spinal Tap on here was the icing on the cake.
around at the 16'th minute you can see .. the incredible tallent of Rob Halofrod , they all are great musiciants , but i think
Rob is one of a hell-kind Metal God
Dave Meniketti kills on this track. The best part about the song though is that Vince Neil didn't sing a lead part.
Im 33 years old and I still want to be these guys!!!!
Love Dio`s reaction to Geoff Tate att 18:56
Great...great..great..:)
What a great song this was! Real heavy metal with great musicians and singers.
+Edwin van W. LIKEWISE! In my opinion, despite the '90s and modern bands getting a "standing ovation," you NEVER, EVER saw ANY of THOSE bands doing a "global awareness" project like Hear N' Aid!
Absolutely the "cream of the crop" as far as 80s (and beyond) guitar heroes go. I liked Viv Campbell's comment about the issue with having to edit the guitar solo section. Not to mention, three of the best metal vocalists ever (Tate, Dio, Halford) are in their prime performing here as well. Hokey?...Maybe a bit. Still, pretty awesome to see so much talent in one studio.
It's so awesome that even Spinal Tap was a part of this project! LMFAO!
33 Years later! I'm still watching and listening to this as if back in 86'... It's incredible the caliber of artists!... Nothing to this day comes close to this extreme masterpiece! This is far beyond comprehension for today's and future generations to come!
2019 It's unfortunate that I'm getting older, but I would never give up what's in my (( heart and mind ))... Growing up in the 70s and 80s! we're the best time of my life and Music was a major part of it, especially ROCK!!!
I still have my VHS video of this that I bought at the time, was and remain but this made me more appreciative of others like Paul Shortino of Rough Cutt, that guy had a Helluva Voice 🎼🎼
absolutely this song was created by 80's masterpieces
Remember recording this from MTV back then. Now that VCR's are extinct, no way to watch it. THANKS!
Such crazy talent and legends all in one place but Geoff Tate is easily the best vocalist there back in that time.
Geoff was great, but Halford and Dio were his equals.
Tate in his prime, yes.... Unfortunately Queensryche had nowhere near the longevity of Priest. Rob had great music to sing over for decades.
Halford is king ...
@@ryanjacobson2508 Had? Have you hear Panic Attack? It's AMAZING! Judas Priest and Rob Halford still have it, and in abundance. I promise you won't be disappointed :)
They all were top of the line awesome, I just cant help wonder what it would of been like for Randy Rhoads to be a part of this benefit SONG , It would of been magic for him and us alike. WE LOVE YOU RANDY . YOUR NEVER FORGOTTEN
Every morning I get up and I listen to this song, to me it's the greatest song that has ever been written, and it symbolizes a time when life and living actually made sense, growing up as the granddaughter to the 17 time Oklahoma fiddling champion and the daughter of guitarist Dale "Renegade" Watson, I was constantly bombarded with various types of music, within this song alone there are so many legends which grace this master piece, this was a time when music actually stood for something, when muscisians, talent, songwriters as well as anyone in the business took their sweet time and put forth alot of efforts into each and every performance, album, interview, and music videos! The kids and generations of today, do not know the meaning behind the struggle of what Rock muscisians went through back in these days, if it weren't for these bands the Rock Genre would of ended with Kiss or Ac/Dc, I give a lot of credit to Ronnie Dio and each and every person that poured their hearts into this song and the cause it was meant for! Its always a blessing when the masses come together to help humanity, and a lot if people love to bastardize Rock music, and claim that our style of music comes straight from the devils work, this is a example that it's not all bad and good comes out of every thing, I do so believe that there's a very big spot in the clouds for these folks! God bless you all and R.I.P Vivian, Ronnie, Kevin!
Amen
I have a photo I took several years ago of Dale Watson playing guitar while sitting in the trunk of a hotrod car on South Congress in downtown Austin. Lonestar Roundup! It was a cool night on the town
Man... what a voice, so powerful Rob Halford !

The voice of Erick Bloon is so amazing too...

In this song stand out definitely two elements: for the voices, Rob Halford, for the guitars, Yngwie J. Malmsteen. But are good also the others... ;-)
Kevin duBrow?
Really wonder what it was like for all the other guitarists to watch Yngwie record his solo. All the musicians here are great, but Yngwie is well.. Yngwie!
Malmsteens ego was to big to be in that room.
Your video is bad and you should feel bad!...unless of course your video is good, then carry on. Probably what it must have felt like for Malmsteen to watch Lynch record his.
Trust me when i say that every other guitar player was probably loving it. George lynch, cambell, neal schon, and every other guitarist are just as good in their on way.
Thank you!
