Chris Schenkel and Nelson "Bo" Burton, Jr. on ABC Saturday afternoons. A staple of my childhood and a connection I shared with my mom. "Winning, never gets old".
This theme tune represents for me the apex of the PBA Tour on T.V. Millions of viewers a week, big sponsors and big money for the bowlers. Lots of great young talent out there today (2023) but this was just a very unique period in pro bowling history.
Loved those Saturday Afternoon Telecasts. My Dad and I would almost never miss it. After the show my Dad would Drive me to The Alley and I would Drill up whatever ball was used to win. If it wasn't a Black U- Dot. Great Memories.💯👍
THANK YOU!! Of the 36 or so years that ABC Sports televised the Pro Bowlers Tour, the 1986 - 1988 Opening Theme was always my favorite of them all. It was a combination of the music (just LOVE it), the graphics & animation, & Chris Schenkel's introduction & brief synopsis of the top 5 qualifiers. It is such a pleasure to listen strictly to the music, with no voice over, in part 2. For years, I have often wondered what the music would sound like on its own? Now I know & it sounds fantastic! I will watching this frequently from this point on... Were did you find part 2 of this upload? I would be fascinated to find out! Interesting that you chose the 1986 Greater Los Angeles Open for part 1. Any particular reason? Ironically enough, of all the 1986 - 1988 Openings, the 1987 Greater Los Angeles Open stands out for me the most. Pete McCordic's 300 is probably the reason why! Again, THANK YOU!
If you like this, you'll love the opening to the show I produce nowadays. Here's the latest episode. The opening animation should look vaguely familiar. :-) ruclips.net/video/RLFBW7HvH4s/видео.html
I've never seen this version of the 1986-1988 opening. The ABC Sports logo looks like an update to the 1984-1985 versions used. Every other 1986 telecast I've seen has "ABCSPORTS" spelled out, with "ABC" in blue letters and "SPORTS" in white, and the 1987-1988 ones, my personal favorites, have the ABC logo in red with "sports" in the same font to the right with some kind of blue trapezoidal (?) background behind it. Interestingly, only the opening logos really got updated throughout the decade, the main ABC "Pro Bowlers Tour" logo (the one with "Pro Bowlers Tour" surrounding the ABC logo) and the theme music used during the player introductions, pretty much stayed the same during most of the 1980's, until 1989.
Well, I never actually left. It's just that I've pretty much shared most of the "BowlingOldies" I have in my collection that I think most people would have any interest in seeing. (I have more, but the other matches I have are pretty obscure players.) Nowadays, I spend almost all my waking hours producing a weekly made-for-RUclips show called PRODIGY BOWLERS TOUR. I'm pretty sure you'd see the similarities in it and many of the old Pro Bowlers Tour episodes you see here on the BowlingOldies channel. Certainly I took much of my inspiration for the graphics I created for the show from those I used to watch on ABC back when Chris Schenkel and Bo Burton were holding court on Saturday afternoons. If you haven't already stumbled upon it, check out my other channel. It's called BrownswickBowling, and the benchmark series you'll find there is called PRODIGY BOWLERS TOUR. As of today, October 31, 2018, here's the latest episode, which I just posted last night. Yes, that's me doing play-by-play. I also shoot the show, edit it, add the music and all the production touches. The channel has over 11,000 subscribers and some of our earliest epiosodes of the show have well over 100-thousand views. If you enjoy watching BowlingOldies, I'm pretty sure you'll get a real kick out of watching some of these future stars. Check out this week's show: "Trick Or Treat -- As Easy As 1-2-3" (a pretty quirky format for this Halloween special) ruclips.net/video/3_EVqI97q4o/видео.html
If you would be so kind, & have the willingness & the time to do so, please post more nostalgic bowling videos from your vast collection. Especially & particularly the obscure professional bowlers. Would love to view whatever you have! Thank You!
@@LANESxNOWONLYx -- Honestly, I spend most of my waking hours nowadays producing my weekly show PRODIGY BOWLERS TOUR. Check out this week's episode. I promise you it's every bit as exciting as any pro tour telecast you'll ever watch: ruclips.net/video/RLFBW7HvH4s/видео.html
PDI (Pacific Data Images) did this intro, as well as the one for Monday Night Football around that time. By that summer, ABC Sports briefly changed their logo to the one similar to ABC News' (Roone Arledge was still running both).
I've seen that "ABCSPORTS" logo on other PBA clips from 1986. Never really did like it. Seems as if they were conducting off and on experiments with using/not using the ABC "dot" logo on the sweeps/rakes during the telecasts from about 1989-1992 before putting it back on in 1993 and keeping it there until the end of the run in 1997. Always liked it better with the "dot" logo on there than without.
I wouldn't want to. I thought it was lame. But I did like this one with the flying scoreboard. It wasn't my favorite. (The one from the '70s was my favorite.) But this was a good one, and this theme song pretty much defined pro bowling in its golden age. I used this animation as inspiration for the opening animation sequence I created for the weekly made-for-RUclips show I now produce each week called PRODIGY BOWLERS TOUR. Check it out. I think you'll notice the rather obvious similarity Here was our season-ending Tournament of Champions from this past June. The animation sequence begins about 2 minutes in. But I think you'll be impressed at who I got to appear just before that. Check it out: ruclips.net/video/bOyPDOCk7mw/видео.html
I remember this so well from when I was young! My older self notes the clean segway between the ABC Sports animation and the PBA theme at the time, brass heavy as it was. And since it was Score Productions, we've probably heard those guys on the radio a few times, as they used the session players in L.A.

There was such a air of coolness with Chris Schenkel(RIP) and Nelson "Bo" Burton, Jr. , I watched the Pro Bowlers Tour because of them.

I've been looking SOOO long for this. Thank you

this was the intro that I started to watch the pro bowlers tour all the way to the end in 1997.
If this theme come back in 2020
Glorious times.
On that second one with the "clean" start are we supposes to insert our own bowlers?
You're back!

This animation was used from 1986-1988.
I changed the title to reflect this. Thanks for pointing it out.
I wonder if you can recreate the one from 1990-91 with the translucent bowling ball.

Flying scoreboard, this spelled Saturday afternoon bowling.
That Baker could do some lines
