  • Many potential Tesla owners are concerned about battery longevity and replacement costs. While battery degradation is a natural process, Tesla batteries are designed to last for many years, potentially hundreds of thousands of miles. This article will address common concerns about Tesla battery life and provide tips to extend the range and lifespan of your Tesla battery.
"I am thinking about buying a new Tesla but I am concerned about the battery that it's only good for 10 years and then would have to buy another one for $10,000-20,000 depending on the model. Is this a true statement or do Tesla batteries actually last longer?" This question was asked today in the Tesla group on Facebook, generating a healthy discussion.
Indeed, How Many Years Will a Tesla Battery Last?
In April 2023 Tesla revealed its battery degradation, which showed that Tesla batteries last longer than you think. According to published data, Tesla vehicles experience an unbelievably low battery degradation of only 12% over their entire lifespan. This means that you can drive your Tesla for years without worrying about having to replace the battery or contributing to negative environmental impacts caused by battery disposal.
Tesla's own data from February 2023 show that Model S and Model X batteries retain about 90 percent of their original capacity on average over 200,000 miles of use.
Torque News Tesla reporter Jeremy Johnson notes that Tesla has a warranty on the battery at 8 years or 30% degradation. Most Tesla vehicles don't degrade that 30%, but for those that do, Tesla replaces the battery with no charge.

Half of these photos are lead acid batteries not used in EVs. Photos of internal combustions engines don’t belong in an EV story. If you can’t show EV photos, show nothing at all.

A Lithium battery does not work like a lead acid battery, a healthy battery goes from 60-100%. lower than that the battery just don't work. so after 100k miles the battery degrades to 80%, give 50k more and the battery will be around 60% of life, just a few miles to the end of life. Engines last over 500k miles, if its maintenance in the correct way can even last a million miles, its cheaper to fix an engine than replace it when fails, but an EV battery its not easy to fix, it needs to be fully removed which cost around 5k in labor just to change a bad bms, if one cell goes bad it needs o be changed the entire battery, we have seen than in many tesla cars. when talking about servicing the engine, a DIY can replace many parts, but an EV its not possible, the battery weight several tons and needs to be done by a Tesla electrical mechanic, Tesla reserves their right to share schematics only to tesla certified technicians, so there will be no data for the user to fix their 60k+ cars.

Elon Musk posts directly on X that there will be a Tesla Robotaxi unveil on 8/8. This is in only 4 months and comes after a controversial article from Reuters about Tesla's compact car being cancelled. www.torquenews.com/14335/tesla-unveil-robotaxi-88-according-elon-musk-directly-posting-x
