      May I ask, did you have symptoms of a uti? If not, what symptoms did you have that prompted you to be seen by a doctor? Thanks in advance.

    One of the difficulties now is telemedicine, not actually seeing people and doing good exams ie UAs, cultures, visual etc esp with mobility issues &/or nursing home situations.

    I have read studies linking bacteria found in chicken, after ingestion, to more frequent UTIs. It is mostly in women. If this is even remotely common, it should be made clear to the public.

    It is extremely important for older women to never neglect to be alert to changes in any urinary change. It's imperative as it can cost your life ........

    I have had IC for 20 years. Now it seems when I take an anabiotic I get a UTI. So I have to really be careful because it puts me into a flare also.!

    I do not get pain when I pee. The frequency and urgency and in severe cases incontinence Occasionally I do get fever and chills. And twinges of pelvic pain.
    Just starting low dose estrogen suppository to see if this helps.
    The spot test Urinalysis does not show infection but cultures do show infection.

    Thank you for this most enlightening podcast. My mom in law is 93 and has recurrent ‘ bladder infections’. We live in a small town with few doctors and few Specialists. Her GP (General Practioner) gives her antibiotics.
    I’ve been arguing against this as she sometimes has an antibiotic every 2 weeks! This has been happening for many months. We have at last persuaded her to see a new female GP for a second opinion in January when her yearly Medical Aid cash kicks in.
    We live in a small coastal town in South Africa. I feel she needs a proper diagnosis as you describe. She actually needs one of you!😊
    Thank you once again. Blessings to all involved in your podcasts 💖

    After having recurring UTI's for years I have just had the vaccine Uromune developed in Europe. The only thing there are still 3 Bacteria that are resistant to it, so I am still getting the occasional UTI.

      This vaccine is not yet available in the US. It's a promising approach, however, so will be interesting to see if something similar becomes available here.

    I would like a more clear definition of “colonized” bladder.

    • @BetterHealthWhileAging
      @BetterHealthWhileAging  Месяц назад

      You can find good definitions by searching Google for "asymptomatic bacteriuria". Here's one from www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/books/NBK547179/
      "Asymptomatic bacteriuria (ASB) is defined as the presence of a significant bacterial colony count present in a person without any of the typical signs or symptoms of a urinary tract infection (UTI)."
      From a practical perspective, it's a positive urine culture (meaning a culture that grows more than 100K colonies of a certain bacteria) in the absence of localized UTI symptoms.
