    The hat guy is back!!Interesting video.The water tower is kinda large to my eyes because towers over here tend to be of 5000gal capacity.Mixed train looked good.5 locos seems a bit of overkill but looked great....

      Oh boy...5,000 gallons is just the humidity in some of the big tenders! It wouldn't get the train to the next tank, 20-miles away. I do think "Calibrated eyeballs" of the hatted fellow misjudged this tank though. I suspect it is closer to 50,000-gallons. 🤠👍

      @espeescotty we are a small country so the scale of everything suits the need...we have only around 2500 miles of track.....id say you guys have longer sideings🤣

    Look for date nails on the ties

    • @espeescotty
      @espeescotty  8 дней назад +1

      I'm pretty observant and very detail oriented, and I have NEVER seen a date nail in a tie nor in the ballast 😟 I have however seen a cool spot where there were still a good number of date nails, 1937, in their original as intended spot out there on the UP. Maybe next time I go out that way, I'll have to stop and show you guys a video out it. 🤠👍

    That's 136 pound rail . Strings are welded 1320 feet strings . Dates on the rail are when it was made , hash marks are the count of months . 136 pound rail is 3 feet in length .

      Years ago, I watched a video about how Colorado Fuel & Iron's rail mill in Pueblo, Colorado would weld individual sticks into quarter mile (1320-feet) for the railroads to purchase. Of course, some railroads would weld their own sticks into ribbon rail, including Union Pacific. The old 1957 and 1970 rails here have most likely been sitting here since originally laid by the Southern Pacific, who probably purchased them from CF&I as ribbon rail. My presumption was that one extra 39-foot stick was welded on by CF&I to get it to 1359-feet, rounded up to 1360. Since my primary focus was to show a well-seasoned MOW pro, I did forget to explain in the video about the hash marks and the way rail weights are counted by the yard. Thanks for filling in those oversites on my part. 🤠👍
