I hope Zenyatta's foals are just as incredible as she was. I have missed watching her race. I can't wait until her foals start racing but if they are anything like her we might have to wait until they are three or even four years old.
Bernardinin has got to be one of the classiest young sires out there right now. Bernardini and Zenyatta could produce one the the classiest colts in a long long time. I'll be there when this 2 or 3 year old hits the track for the first time..
Me too. And that they ride the heck out of them as yearlings. They would stay sounder if they waited to ride them, heck, so many track deaths could be prevented. But there's so many millions in the baby races, and the potential stud fees, I don't see that changing anytime soon.
I think the two of them look like they go together, he is as handsome as she is beautiful. I think the two of their talents brought together will produce a beautiful, and very talented foal that we will speak of forever. Michele
I applaud the decision by the Moss's to breed Zenyatta with Bernardini. He's already established himself as one of the premier young sires in the breeding industry. Owners from the US and Europe are snapping up his offspring in droves, and his genes have proven to be as equally effective on turf as they have on conventional dirt. Most notably among his Euro offspring winning graded stakes races in Europe are the filly, Theysken's Theory, and Biondetti, who's his first G1 winner in Italy in 2010.
Last year Bernardini was bred to RA and got a filly. At the same time A different horse was bred to Zennyata and a colt was born.Plus, Both of Zennyata's colts are Secratariat relatives. So if they breed the colt and the filly together that would be good to, and i don't think they are related.
Not one of my favorite horses, but the pedigree - Round Table, Dr. Fager, Buckpasser, Mr. Prospector, Northern Dancer, Spectacular Bid, Secretariat (Bold Ruler on both sides), Seattle Slew, etc. - Wow.
re old thread below re suitability of Tapit as mate to Zenyatta: Whether or not Ziconic does anything on the track, and however unimpressive the 6:3-0-0 record of the (often ill) Tapit, Tapit has proven himself in the breeding shed. Tapit's 2014 stud fee has doubled to $300,000 for 2015, the highest in the U.S., after being champion sire of 2014 and setting a new North American record for single-season progeny earnings, led by the success of daughter Untapable, son Tapiture, and the Belmont win by son Tonalist. Z's connections got him relatively cheap.
Tapit may or not be good match for Z but his stud fee's gone from 15K to 125K for a reason (Bernadini is top at 150K). In 6 crops to race:40 stakes winners,10 G1 stakes winners, 4 BC winners, 3 juv champions. (I agree Union Rags was better than Hansen, tho.) 3rd on general sires list 2011, 2nd in 2012, 3rd so far this year; similar stats for 1st, 2nd, 3rd crops lists. His get have been precocious (probably good for Z) but have won at up to 10f & on turf. His shed performance is what counts now.
@BarrelRacingPaints -- I'm curious. To me, Zenyatta's too tall, but clean, uphill, and elastic. Bernardini looks to have good overall balance, maybe a bit downhill for my taste, but with a good neck set and nice shoulder. From what I can see of his eyes, I'd worry that the foal might be smart and hot-hot-hot, but TB people deal with that. More importantly, runners closely related to this cross are already winning. Nothing jumps out at me. Why do you say they aren't good looking?
wise dan is my choice for breeding. he set the track record over obviously's previous track record...1:31 in the mile. this is turf but when you get this tremendous speed, you have to give it a try and see what happens. look at the 2012 breeders cup mile turf race at santa anita. he also set a track record at woodbine in 2013 1:31 in the mile. what horse runs 1:31'S???????????????? with all the track records that he has set, a pairing with this horse would be very interesting.
ok what about frankel??? this horse won all of his 14 races with legendary grace...zenyatta and frankel both loved to win every race. look at all the races of frankel on how much he won over the other horses...check out the video on youtube: frankel: the wonder horse ...you can name the horse ZENKEL...
Bernadini has a more symmetrical conformation. Zenyatta is perfect but a very big rangy mare. That's all. They compare bloodlines and it's not all some random or fantasy choosing.
If you think about it, Barbaro was the one that should have been bred to Zenyatta. Benardini wouldnt have won the 2006 PS if Barbaro didnt break down. It is likely that they would have chosen barbaro, what a foal that wouldve been...
The fact that Barbaro broke down in itself may indicate that his genes were not of the best quality. Speed and endurance aren't the only factors that make a great racehorse. Strong bones are also important. Barbaro's links to Native Dancer (a very successful sire, but one who is suspected to have a tendency to produce soft-boned descendants) may have predisposed him to weaker bones. Though I am aware that Bernadini also has links to Native Dancer, but so far he seems sturdy enough, so he may not be affected by undesirable genes. I don't personally consider him to be one of the finest horses though, so I wouldn't have picked him for Zenyatta had she been mine. Still, it is up to the owners, and Cozmic One (the result of the mating) is currently in training I believe, so I'll give him a chance before I pass any judgment. I am wary of Native Dancer's bloodline in general however. The successes of him and his descendants at stud has resulted in an alarming amount of inbreeding in a very large number of bloodlines. Raise A Native, Mr. Prospector, Northern Dancer etc. dominate far too many bloodlines in my opinion. 'Glass cannons' like Eight Belles or the famous Ruffian are sometimes the result of this.
Even if Barbaro had won the 2006 Preakness -- even if he had won the Triple Crown -- I wouldn't necessarily assume Z's owners would have picked him. Bernadini may have been better suited for her in terms of pedigree and/or conformation. Even if Bernadini had not won the Preakness, he was an accomplished race horse -- he won the Grade 1 Travers and Jockey Club Gold Cup, and had several other graded stakes wins. Barbaro might have been proving a disappointment at stud by the 2011 breeding season. (*Not* saying that would have been the case, just that it's always a possibility.) Revisiting this comment of mine - I was careless, I was not counting. "Even if" Barbaro had been retired to stud at 4, he would have had only 2 crops hit the track by 2011 - and at the time of the 2011 breeding season, his second crop would be young 2-yr-olds and few would have started. Not enough time, in other words, for the horse to have proved himself one way or the other as a stud. If only he had had the chance. : (
So Bernardini, and Zenyatta, also Curlin being bred to Rachel Alexandra, now heres a good idea, if we get a filly out of either, and then a colt out of the other couple, breed them, now that'd be a super horse.
Not closely enough that there would be much damage to the foal. You should really only be worried about how the pairing would actually match up in that scenario.
Zen would've been great, bred to Dynaformer, I agree. But just look at Bernardini. I love how there's not a single white marking on his entire body. Just tall, dark, and handsome. ;)
Maybe so, but he has produced very, very well. Rumor has it that Henrythenavigator might be her next baby daddy, and Zenyatta's dam now has two fillies by him.
I've been betting horses since age five and still can't judge them visually, except once, when a horse named Margarita Man SHINED in the paddock, to the point where I almost bet him, and he won by fifteen.
It's true that many go to slaughter. But as one of the best racehorses of all time, I think Zenyatta has earned the right to have a foal. Plus, unlike a stallion who can sire thousands, the few babies she can produce will be worth much more.
Z and B's colt, "Cozmic One" is such a peculiar name. mho I'm not fond of it other than maybe the nickname 'Coz.' He's a nice-looking colt now and in training. Can't wait to see how he does. 13z (Z and Tapit's chestnut colt) is a looker and in some ways moreso than Coz. Can't wait to hear what they name him this year. Z and War Front's foal is due in a few months. I hope it's a filly. :)
I'd like to see Team Z send her to American Pharoah after he retires. It's the old adage... bred the best to the best and hope for the best. Doesn't get any better than those two for parents.
@diegomeznocedo, Yes sir, I remember Bernardini's loss to Invasor by a length in the 2006 BC Classic. Invasor was a class horse in his own right. But in all candor, I feel like Javier Castellano got Bernardini beat in that race as much as Invasor actually beat him. Castellano made a very premature move on Bernardini in the Classic that day. Watch the replay, and you'll see what I'm talking about. But that's not a knock in anyway at Invasor, because he was awfully talented, too. JMO.
if Zenyatta has a filly i hope Secretariats blood holds strong. Not sure this horse is really the stud so much as the glamor of his pedigree. These two share numerous horses in their pedigree like Tom Fool and Hail to Reason. What i would like out to see of the foal: about 16.7 HH, head runner just off the pace of the leader, and a filly, red or golden chestnut
I am from Uruguay and I think it was a good horse INVASOR by his maternal grandfather INTERPRETE and no for candy stripes .- The best stallion for Zenyatta would be Mingun (A.P.Indy X Miesque x Nureyev)
I know, I do too. I wish blame was scratched. Outta da race. But no... he got there first. The Only reason she didn't win the Breeders cup was because her jockey didn't push her to the front at the right time. If he did, then it would be a perfect win. Some jockeys make mistakes, and people call mike a crappy jockey? No. All jockeys make mistakes. People don't even think about the jockeys. If you put a terrible jockey on a good horse, the horse wouldn't do too good.
Are you serious? No, maybe some people that are stupid and cruel and don't like to be living and hate themselves, but not the loving people. I have thoroughbreds. I just sell them when they go into retirement. I make sure it is a good home. So uh durdurdur NO
breeding wonderful to wonderful isn't going to get you WONDERFUL no gene pool to gather from..... I like Bernadini don't think he si the corect fit for her...
I don't like him. There are two better stallions 1 in Ireland Sea The Stars and 1 in England Frankel. S.T.S. dam and Frankel's parental Granddam are the same great race mare and broodmare: Urban Sea
That is horse racing business. You don't understand a thing about it. Get out of here and go watch something you know about. You make up these stupid things to make horse people sound bad. ALL SPORTS DO THIS. ALL FREAKING HORSE SPORTS. YOU CANT DO A THING ABOUT IT EXCEPT GIVE MONEY TO THE RESCUE AND TREAT YOUR HORSES WELL.
I do not like these poor horses who have that disgusting "bit" in their mouth. How would u like that in your mouth all the time and being lead around...just horrible...such a beautiful animal.
You've clearly never been around a stallion before. They're insanely strong, especially around mares that are in season. The chain is needed to keep them under control.
Bernardini is a awesome sire. I think it was a very good choice. However, Tapit... I personally think Tapit was a poor choice. He won 3 out of 6 starts. Placing 6th in one and 9th in the other two is absolutely ridiculous =/ His foals aren't even that great. Ya Hansen won the breeders cup juvenile, by a whisker to a much better horse (Union Rags). I think it was a bad breeding on there part.
Unfortunate that Bernardini is gone. Yearlings from his last crop of foals have been in the Keenland 2023 sale. (I always root for his runners.)
HE IS ABSOLUTELY BREATHTAKING AND SO MAJESTIC. 🐎
Beautiful horses!

Love his conformation! Balanced bodies allow balanced minds I think. Beautiful!

wonderfully built stallion. ..let's hope cosmic one gets both

Zenyatta is BEAUTIFUL.
@livlovezpella febuary of 2012....... a mares gestation period is about 11 months.
Well that is pretty true, especially that many people have fallen in love with Zenyatta. But I do agree with you there!
Not one of my favorite horses, but the pedigree - Round Table, Dr. Fager, Buckpasser, Mr. Prospector, Northern Dancer, Spectacular Bid, Secretariat (Bold Ruler on both sides), Seattle Slew, etc. - Wow.

i'm really excited about that
the fact they run them at 2..still disturbs me..their bones arent even fully hardened yet..

Gorgeous stud. I understand why he was chosen to tighten up the conformation on zenyatta plus bloodlines

fly her over it can't hurt one year to have a foal by the Great FRANKEL

It's All LUCK. 3% winners to Thoroughbred foals born.

Well im sorry if i dont know every horses full pedigree.

what did they name the foal????????????????????

@9flicka7 yes he is a King was ready for his queen and born Prince
Bernardini has Seattle Slew...that's an even better cross....with Mr Prospector...
He looks so little compared to Zenyatta, lol. She is just such a massive horse, especially for a mare.
Z and B's colt, "Cozmic One" is such a peculiar name. mho I'm not fond of it other than maybe the nickname 'Coz.' He's a nice-looking colt now and in training. pmatch yassss
Great parents rarely mean great foals.
that is soooooo true if only trainers could see this and that would be awesome there is no way it wouldnt win the triple crown
hopefully Zenyatta has a filly we need more AWESOME mares like Queen Z and Rachel
@diegomeznocedo, Yes sir, I remember Bernardini's loss to Invasor by a length in the 2006 BC Classic. Invasor was a class horse in his own right. Do they really need to breed her? There are so many TBs breed each year and a lot of them go to slaughter. :/
what does that mean
Z and his baby will be born like 11 days after my b-day
i really want zenyatta to have a colt, then we can have the ultamite race:Rachels colt VS Zenyattas colt
They should make a breyer horse for bernanidi
@1Clarenceboy 1st March
but she would have such a striking foal with a stallion that has a lot of white markings like freud or songandaprayer
I am from Uruguay and I think it was a good horse INVASOR by his maternal grandfather INTERPRETE and no for candy stripes .- The best stallion for Zenyatta would be Mingun (A.P.Indy X Miesque x Nureyev)
He's not being bred anymore
Interesting choice....will probably be a super colt nonetheless but wouldn't have been my first choice of a stud

When is the foal gonna b born??????
giant's causeway should be next for zenyatta
and zenyatta is in foal by tapit :D
@queenluciaa *shrugs* we will find out in a year :)
He's pretty
I think her 2014 colt should be with Orb.
It's the one sport which encourages the top female and male athletes to have sex.
Bernardini's conformation made me swoon.
@kaylaveitch there is no such thing as 16.7HH lol. There are 4 inches in a hand.
He was just pensioned
12 zenyatta
@sarahstroup *Shrugs* oh well i knew what I meant
that would be inbreeding, since Curlin and Zenyatta are related
playboy bernardini get zenyatta oh la la hehe peace yo ol
Her pedigree is packed with turf, so why not try Sea The Stars next?
Are you serious? No, maybe some people that are stupid and cruel and don't like to be living and hate themselves, but not the loving people. I have thoroughbreds. I just sell them when they go into retirement. I make sure it is a good home. So uh durdurdur NO
for the next foal look at dynaformer remember what came out of him barbaro
u really know blood horse I don't like blood horse I'm making myself sad and cry 😢😢😢😞😞😞
Use INVASOR! He won Bernardini!
forget Rachel A. get on with Zenny man i heard Zenny has BERNARDINI!!!!!!!!!
idk he has hoof problems, wana horse thats sound
He really wasn't the best fit for a zenyatta combo, I would have bred her w/Giants Causeway first. Just my opinion.
He's a good looking stallion don't get me wrong, but just doesn't fit Zenyatta as a breeding pair.
cruzan al caballo qe entro en segundo lugar de invasor con la yegua que en 2010 entra segunda de blame esta bien que sea asi...
@GBeret83 Dont forget that he loose with INVASOR, our Uruguaian horse!! Half Argentinian!!!
Offspring was a dud
Jajajaja Bernardini is an INVASOR sun jajajajaja! INVASOR is a chep horse to those girls.-
she is beautiful lol
SHE???? oh dear......
His pasterns are too upright, his feet are awful......
@KobuZeroFlux I hope Zen gets a filly, RA's having a colt
I hate how his chain is in his mouth
little becemo some horses need that. It really depends on it's temperment. Or maybe the rider thought it would be best.
anyone who sees him pysically falls in love with him well not me hes not my type of looks so wrong
mabey Curlin is a better bet for her second foal
breeding wonderful to wonderful isn't going to get you WONDERFUL no gene pool to gather from..... I like Bernadini don't think he si the corect fit for her...
I don't like him. There are two better stallions 1 in Ireland Sea The Stars and 1 in England Frankel. S.T.S. dam and Frankel's parental Granddam are the same great race mare and broodmare: Urban Sea

Oh well, it only disturbs the other derps here. So , get over it all sports do it. So what are you saying we cant do horse sports? PFFFTTTT
Invisor is the beast!!
