Awesome man keep it up!
Thanks you for the video. it helps a lot, even for other instrument, like guitar. Even bouzouki ;)
Great playing
Laouto strings: I use d’addario and ernie ball slinky, there are other brands also. E(mi)- 17 steel for both. A(la)- .16 steel for the bottom and .30 or 32 copper wound for the top. D(re)- dogal electric 3 for the bottom .38 copper wound for the top. G(sol) .16 or .17 steel for the bottom .32 copper wound for the top.
Why not use these strings:kg-guitars.gr/product/mastro-strings-set-for-cretan-lute-silver-plated/
Could you please link to the strings u purchase

It's different from the Renaissance or Baroque lute because it's very ornate & has 8 strings kinda like some of the original lutes but they're steel strings & it's played with a pick, it's called a Lute because of its bowl shape on the back.
Love it - Thank you - can you do 5 lessons for the absolute beginner - My koumbaro Pantelis who is not Cretan but has a Cretan soul want to learn how to play but we need very basic start- or else can you direct us to some video learning materials ?
Thanks again - great to listen to you - stirs the soul
Thanking you 0
Going to work on something for koumbaro Pantelis! Cretan soul laouto special coming soon. Yasou Panteli!

In some soundtracks of God of War game from PS2, has an instrument that sounds like a lute or bouzouki, but I've researched and nothing satisfies my conclusion. Example of non-official name soundtracks in RUclips played with this instrument: God of War 1: "Athen's Splendor", "Athen's Sewer"; God of War 2: "The Bathroom", "River of Forgotten"...
Definitely going for some GOW laouto tracks in the future. I feel like it's an exciting and deep sound for video games.
Dear friend Congratulations. very nice what you play. 10 days ago I took a Cretan lute and I'm trying to find out, and I wanted you to tell me if the song you are playing has any other name than the Chanian dance sirtos, because I hear it from others that looks like yours but it is not the same and I like yours more
Thanks brother, there are many variations to Chaniotikos. oppppaaa leoooo
Can i also play it with a risha?
It sounds like an Oud except it with frets
Hello friend, who is the maker of this particular lauto? Best,
Hi friend, this laouto was made by Xarilaos Vlastakis from Lousakes, Kissamos. Are you thinking about buying a lute?
@@lifelovelute6831 yes, I am flamenco guitarist from Poland and I felt in love with greek cretan music
super and down-to earth. thanks. can you describe the plectrum which i assume is home-made or improvised from-----?
The plectrums for the cretan laouto is different than the typical ones you may know. These are often very elongated, narrow and thin. You should be able to find it Google search
@@Nik0smusic got it thanks. when you tune up another step, is the intonation still true?
@@TheSecretmuseum correct
Opa opa opa
prrrrrr pap pap papap papapa
ive seen some similar instruments that have diatonic frets, is that diatonic or chronatic?
the frets are nylon and can be moved or removed
As it's tuning is the same as a Violin or Mandolin, I know my Chords & Scales coming from Mandolin.
@@RockStarOscarStern634 yessir
@@lifelovelute6831 Mandolin Chord Books (Octave Mandolin Chord Books, any Chord Book for any instrument tuned GDAE) should apply to this instrument too so it's saving me lots of time. I use a strap to keep the lute in playing position.
Hey hi.
How can I get this instrument ?
I am from India.
Check out Tony at Laouto.gr
Hi. What is the difference between the steriano and this ? I think the Critiko is better for Anatolian songs than Epirotian songs ?
They have different tuning and also produce a different sound. I wouldn't say either lute is better but you can learn to play all types of songs on either lute. I think the lute has evolved depending on the region it's from and music from that region. Whatever sounds better to you is the way to go.
I came here to ask the same question, and this thread is helpful. My family is from Epirus originally, and I love the music of that region, but I'm really taken by the Cretan Lauto.
Big man ting yo!Γεια σ παυλαρα!
Φοβερή πενιά, ατάκα, κι άλλο κι άλλο!
Respect bro all the way,σωραιος!
Are these intonated for equal temperament?
Not exactly. The ratio isn't progressive from G-D ascending but rather is descending to an octave lower.
If I may ask, anywhere you can refer to in regards to tabs?
Be sure to subscribe because there may be tabs in the future :)
in crete we use our ears for tabs :P
Hello-Γεια, what wood is this?
Tι ξύλο είν' τούτο;
Γεια'σου πρέπει ν'είναι απο κέντρο ξύλο ο σκάφος και παλλίσαντρο καπάκι
I'm confused.. I'm beginning to feel like everyone has their own different laouto tuning lol
That’s accurate. As long as the the band is tuned with you it’s all good. I did notice that a tighter tuning takes it to a different level though.

Pavlis, you have start the wrong way by playing your own style..most important, you have missed to tell us how you form a scale with those 4 strings G,D A, E. are you going to do it ???
Andreas Christodoulou yes. Stay tuned my friend.
@@lifelovelute6831 Ok i get it....more videos coming up , right ???
Λαγούτο όχι Λαούτο. Λυρατζής όχι λυράρης, Βιολιτζής όχι βιολάτορας. Ετσά τα λέγαμε παλιά.
