    A potentially more specific explanation is that the final n, just like the final m, in Classical Latin was nasalized, to the point of just not being pronounced except before a vowel in an inflected form, as shown in your declension chart of that name in Latin.

    Can you discus the ancient Greek letters that were abandoned and why, like the F that has a W sound and the Q like letter.
