I've been wet shaving almost thirty years, but I've using DE safety razors for over a year... I couldn't imagine going back to disposables. I just found your channel - nice vid; informative and entertaining.
How does one wet shave without a safety razor?
I always get a smile on my face when one of your videos automatically turns on after another shaving video ends.. You are hilarious and you remind me of some hollywood comedian.. I loved the dramtic lightning.. that Bay Rum aftershave looked really interesting.

That bay rum smells amazing. I’ve just gotten into wet shaving recently, and I shaved 2 times today just so I can feel the burn and smell the goodness that is bay rum. Love that stuff! I’ve also tried Gabela’s and it just doesn’t hold a candle to Pinaud. I have yet to try the Captain’s Choice bay rum, which I’ve heard good reviews about.

It's funny... I just got some almonds yesterday, and I was remarking to myself that they had a subtle cherry flavor to them, and thought how great of a shave soap that would make if they could capture that balance I was experiencing. Looks like someone had that idea a long time ago! Lol.

Is is weird that I dislike shaving but love watching these videos? I just use a Gillette Fusion razor with Nivea for Men shaving foam. I really want to make it a more enjoyable experience... I need to get a nice brush, some good soap and a safety razor!
Do that and you’ll like it more. Makes it less of a chore for me.

I'm 17 and I use my Grandfather's 1973 Gillette Super 109 Adjustable with Cremo menthol shave cream, Van Der Hagen Shave Brush, generic blades, shave bowl, and nivea mens sensitive cooling after shave. It's an amzing thing to look forward to each morning. (DON'T FORGET THE WHIP CREAM SHAVE)
Duncan do it!!! I was like you 6 month ago, then i bought a Merkur safety razor and a “starting kit” with brush and a Proraso soap. Now shaving is more like a hobby and you will end up buying loads of aftershaves and soaps... :-)

Clubman were the products that my Grandfather sold in his barbershop. So when I shave brings me back to my childhood & my Grandfather just had a haircut. He tried to use a straight razor, soon i was using DE razors. When I arrived at boot camp they took my razor blades from me & made me a track 2 razor, Which I still have.

You talked about my 2 favorite things . The bay rum scent and Big red soda. Two things i remember as a child. Grew up in SE Texas,SW Louisiana.
Big Red lovers know its magic. Those that dislike it, misunderstand it. No other drink replicates it. Love it.
at first i was smelling the cherry more than the almond scent but the weird part is, the more i took a sniff of the soap the more it smelled like a marzipan bar... i really dig it scent-wise and practice-wise
Interesting observation on the difference in smell between in the tub & on the face. I've noticed that Williams Mug Soap is like that. Which is a good thing for the Williams. Any-hoo...

That is a great aftershave. Also from Pinaud, you should try Clubman Special Reserve , if you haven't already.

Just bought some Bay Rum. Waiting for it to come through eBay. It seems like my partner likes the traditional smells. And if it keeps her happy then I am lol.

Cella is definitely always in my rotation and has been for years. I do need to try this bay rum aftershave. Have you tried wholy kaw king of bourbon soap? It is very nice and love the scent, highly recommended.
Id recommend the clubman virgin island bay rum for the price point if your going for a fragrance however if you want a nice splash that goes with anything lucky tiger bay rum does that it has a nice clean scent that people won't complain about it even if you bathed in it where the one in this episode lingers around longer and gota limit how much ya use want a step stronger go to the Phoenix artisan accoutrements aftershave they also go a step stronger than that haven't tried it as the aftershave can last 8 hours ahh yea they also got an air freshener ehh go with what ya like and experiment its part of the fun as for cella i like it but its not as good as arko if going plain jane add a preshave and well almost anything does good a bit of paa cube and well its more than enuff on its own but gota add something else if you like the nice foam

Cella and VIBR are one Hell of a combination. I don't know if there is any pairing that is better for winter and the Holidays.
Really glad you like my suggestion of the Cella shaving soap/cream! I am thinking of picking up Tabac, I believe they are German. A puck or a shaving stick can be bought on Amazon or the West Coast Shaving website. Have you tried using a shaving soap stick? I don’t recall any of your videos having you use one. Arko or Palmolive are really cheap.
Tabac is amazing I got the shaving stick as it was cheaper then the bowl. Some people like the smell and others hate it.

All of the Clubman aftershaves get better if you decant them into glass bottles. Cella is absolutely one of the best soaps, smells great, easy to lather and very creamy. Both brands are daily drivers for me.

Hey there. You might also like Taylor of Old Bond Street peppermint shave cream with proraso pre shave, for the ultimate minty cool shave. I love it and wonder if you will too? Oh and for the full alcohol finisher try Duru 80% alcohol lemon aftershave 😊 feels amazing....once the tingle goes!

You should try kiss my face shave cream. I just tried the cool mint, easy to use and lather. Available on Amazon. Can get here in Minnesota in grocery store. Keep up the interesting shaves!
Cella reminds me of cherry soda or maraschino cherries made shave stick from it I think my 1kg box will last quite some time
The hydroxides are used to turn the tallow into soap (in a nutshell) the rest of the ingredients are just the fill in ins like perfumes etc but just to make your day sodium hydroxide is used for unblocking or at least clearing drains in it's neat form it is very toxic and will burn the hell out of your skin. Having said that it is different when mixed with fats and oils to make soap. Potassium hydroxide is very similar only more savage than sodium hydroxide but both are made more inert mixed with the fats and oils and they only use quite small amounts. . .
El Paso is filled with Big Red and I've never tried it. Sounds like a nice pairing for a bag of Chex mix. Gotta try it

How many vintage saftey D.E razors do u own? I currently own one it's a 1959 Gillettesuper speed . my other is a new Van Der Hagen. Blade I use are Shark super chrome. Will never go back to cartridge razors again.

so all those hydroxides in the ingredients (potassium hydroxide, sodium hydroxide) are bases ( opposite of acids). They're necessary in the saponification process and turn the fats into soap

After that shavette...I’m hesitant.
I shave with a straight every once in a while. I've read online that a "real" straight razor (the kind you have to strop on leather) is a little more forgiving than a shavette. Though they are a bit pricey.
Another soda that is good when it's hot: Vernors with a cinnamon stick 😛

Question to all wet shavers: Do you really need the third pass? I mean, I usually make the first pass carefully and make sure there are no rough parts left after the second. Normally it is quite smooth after that. I know you will say that it depends on the type of beard, but my beard is a bit to the rough side and all over my face, so......tell me your opinion and experience.

I have different razors and blades so it depends. Some do the job with 2 passes, some need 3. And of course depends shaving itself, how careful you are but i would say i need usually 2 plus maybe third time to shave both sideburns against the grain.
Third pass from nose to ear isn't as aggressive as atg..I usually do two passes down. I do atg on neck on second pass and across from ear to nose on my jawline, chin and upper lift
If you want the shave to last two full days you need the third pass. Very little pressure, very shallow angle. Almost nothing.
If you want your shave to last two days, yes.

IMO faux leather is not only vastly inferior to proper veg-tanned/combo-tanned leather, but once it's trash it will be polluting the world and disrupting the endocrine systems of animals/us until the sun dies. It's also entirely dependent on the petro-chemical industry for supply of the material, as opposed to being dependent on ruminant animals, sunlight, grass and the roots of certain plants. Those are pretty big downsides if you ask me.

My understanding between the differences between vegan and vegetarian is that vegans don’t participate in the eating or use of animal bi - products whatsoever, while some vegetarians can eat animal byproducts like cheese and milk and such, and others can eat fish and other sea critters, but the main beliefs between the two are to not consume land animals like chicken, pig, cow, sheep, goat, etc
need to scoop the soap out and use otherwise if you wet the soap it will lose the smell and the protection it has .mine became useless and changed the color because of wetting it

Sodium hydroxide and potassium hydroxide is what turma the tallow into soap. There should be none left in the soap when it's done saponifying the tallow. Who wants to put lye on their face? Lye is another name for sodium hydroxide.
A long with Vegan, there is also freegan. Someone who doesn't believe in throwing away food. That means they would eat meat if it was going to be thrown out. Some people live that way an only consume that kind of food and others are say vegan or vegetarian for bought food in the shop, but will eat meat if it's freegan.
