- This is a review of the renowned Cella, almond scented shaving soap which is handmade in Milan, Italy. It loads very easily onto the brush and the quality of the lather is always outstanding; it gives a great shave. I really enjoy using this soap. Today I'm using my Rubberset 200-3 shaving brush; one of my subscribers has named it 'The RubberTux' - nice one, Nara. I'm also using my favourite safety razor: the Velvet. I'm having a terrific day. Happy Easter folks.
Here is a link to the Velvet safety razor review and shave. Just in case you haven't watched it, already.

Great soap that I always enjoy using. Love the latherand ... the smell...my god. good to start the day on the right foot

Oh, yes. You've got to love the Cella 😃👍
Maybe you should do the switch to a single edge blade razor to get an irritation free against the grain pass. That’s what worked for me! With classic DE razors I couldn’t shave against the grain. The Blackland Vector as SE razor with a Schick pro line blade changed that for me!
I had already tried but I'm very glad it worked for you. I am getting a little better and find certain mild razors do enable me to go against the grain, at least on parts of my face. Cheers.
@@FriendshipShaving That’s great to hear! I also reduced my passes. One with the grain, and the second directly against the grain. The third pass is optional pick up time pass as I like a bbs shave every time :)
Cheers!
Hi Mark, love the relaxed nature of your videos. I bought a Velvet razor from an antiques shop in Conwy, it came in a brass case and said on the tag that it dates from 1918, I'm not sure if that is correct but it gives a good (quite aggressive) shave. Mine has a Myatt baseplate which I don't know if it is the original plate, maybe they mixed and matched brands at that time. I think Cella will be my next soap.
Hi Neil. I'm glad you like the videos, thank you for your kind comment. It's difficult to find information about the Velvet brand. I know there were earlier razors than mine, with an open comb but I'm not sure of the date. Thanks for getting in touch. All the best.
I always use alum after every shave and never had any problems with it, one thing I will recommend to you is jamacian black castor beard oil I use it on my moustache and it says on the bottle can be used as a pre shave or aftershave, it leaves my face soft all day. have a good bank holiday mate 👍
+Jonny Round
Castor oil. Interesting. You know my mother used to make me drink a spoonful of that every day when I was a child. I'll look into that. Thanks, pal. Happy Easter.
Been LOVING CELLA for years I buy the 2.1 lbs, lasts about 2 yrs.
+Louis Leoncini
You are in pole position to become the Friendship Shaving Cella champion, Louis! Two years, wow. It is fantastic soap; I know there are much more complex scents out there but I do enjoy the Cella. Thank you for saying hello. Happy Easter.
Only 2 years? I bought the 1kg brick and feel like it would last me over 5 years or more with how much I have left. Amazing value for the price.
I use alum every shave however I always only leave it on for about a minute then rinse it off and I follow it with Thayers Medicated - Topical pain relief witch hazel which I find leaves the skin feeling really nice and non fiery. I finish up with Nivea shave balm again which I find soothes any irritation/burn.
John, Nivea is just a great product - I love it. I found, rather unfortunately that pure witch hazel gave me little angry red spots. Man, it cursed me for weeks before I worked out what it was. I'm rather jealous of you guys that can use it, but I can use Nivea which I believe has some witch hazel in it! It's just weird. It sounds like you've got your post shave perfected. Nicely done. All the best.
I use the alum bloc no more then 2ce a week. I find my skin flares a little with over use. Good question abt the short vs long stroke. I notice Ken Shaves use a long stroke and quite like his technique.
+Chris James
Reading some other comments, perhaps the alum effect depends on your skin. That's interesting. I must admit I do prefer the longer stroke. Maybe I'll have to do a half and half shave - long vs short. Cheers Chris. Happy Easter.
I use alum everyday, no problem if I used a good soap Mitchell's or Tabac. Got the Ming Shi 2000s by the way, after your video. Great, great shaver. Don't have the Futur, but it looks identical from the pictures I've seen. Thought to get myself an extra.
+Slaget vid Brännkyrka
That's interesting. I think my issue is most likely over shaving, trying to get super smooth. Hey, I'm glad you like the Ming Shi. They do look identical; if I could afford it I'd pick up a Futur and compare the two. Thanks for dropping me a line. Have a great weekend.
Same with me. I usually use R41 and Voskhod, always gives me smoothe shaves. Have also a DE89 and 34C, but they're too mild and gives me cuts and irritations, specially when used with a Derby blade. But my Ming Shi on setting six can compete with my R41. Just ordered myself another three razors. Two for gifts and one spare for myself. It'll set me back $20,97. Wow, three top performing, life lasting razors, each with five blades, at the price of six Mach III blades.
+Slaget vid Brännkyrka
I've not tried the DE89 or the R41, obviously they Re very different beasts. The Ming Shi on setting six! Wow :) Nice comment about the price of cartridge blades compared to three life lasting razors. That is so true. Cheers.
Alum gives me irritation if I use it 2days in a row, I only use it when I need to close up some small nicks. I try to use longer strokes, I don't think it matters though. Cella I have been meaning to try for a while, am allergic to the almond scent used by some. Vitos gave me a bad reaction, BdF Raffinato made by TFS is fine & a strong almond scent (good soap), should buy a sample first, really. Happy Shaving & thanks for the review
+Home Glen
That's good to know. It seems you're not the only one that gets irritation from alum, although some guys are obviously fine. I have laid off it for a while and I think, like you, might just use it for nicks, etc. Mike suggests, in an earlier comment, that Vitos is a very similar soap to Cella. Thanks for commenting and sharing, I really appreciate it. Happy Easter.
try the german version of nivea mosterizing cream in the blue tin, as an aftershave. just before you go to sleep. i have been doing this for a couple of months and i wake up to no irration, after using this cream.
+panchotheaddict420
Thanks Pancho. That's worth a try. Cheers
Hi Mark. Loving your reviews. I have a chrome WS classic and wondered if you could review your favourite mid aggression razor that I could move up to and if possible describe the difference both in feel and results. Thank you.
OMG! Tough call 😃 That's a good idea, though. You've really set me thinking - I've been staring into space for ten minutes. Leave it with me, Paul.
Many thanks. Actually now I think about it can you please try a feather blade in your Wilkinson Sword chrome razor. I might try that depending on your review. Cheers
Cella is one of my fav soaps😎💈💈😎
+Second Kind Of Cool
Yeah, I hear you. Cella is awesome 😃
For me I use the shorter (buffing type) strokes,as if I use longer strokes I tend to apply a little pressure,I don't think it makes much difference a part from time I guess.I've tried Cella and I love the performance, but I don't like these foodie type scents.
+The Suffolk Shaver
That's an interesting point, you make about the increased pressure. I do prefer a longer stroke and wonder if it might work better with a slant. I'll have to get one! The performance is great. Cella has greatly grown on me. Cheers, Steve. Happy Easter.
That's the thing about wet shaving, there so many options.Happy Easter to you too.
So many options but you must shave in accordance with the rules of the World Shaving Federation.
Along with Tabac and Mitchell's Wool Fat, Cella should be in every shave den! Add a puck of Williams Mug Soap so all the classics will be there.
+Shave- a-thon
We don't have Mitchell's, over here. I live my Wool Fat, I must admit but I couldn't cope with the scent of Tabac :) I tried.
In these Inflationary Times. HERE IS AN EASY WAY TO DO IT MY FRIENDs Use any hard Bar Soap, Tallow or Glycerin based Soaps out there? To fit in any Mugs or Cups? Like" (Mitchells' Wool Fat or Arko Sticks. Just to name a few of them?) You can mix and match your old Soaps? Cut up the soap on a paper plate, pour your soap chunks with the shavings from the Paper Plate into a Mug, cover the soap with a small amount of water, and microwave your soap. For about a minute or so? Place a paper plate under your mug in case it bubbles out of your cup? If it foams up, STOP. The water keeps it from burning itself up. (DON'T OVER WATER YOUR SOAP??) Easy, does it? Let cool don't want to Crack the Mugs or Cups you're using? (You just want it to Congeal in your Mug or Cup') it is very hot and watery'''''. let it cool in PLACE'. after it cools, put it in a Sunny Window, until the Soap hardens? When using your soaps, use Dry Brush Less Water. It thickens the soap, making it easier to use on your face. Save your Money, spend it on your wife, don't listen to the shave Mafia. It saves me time and Money. Wheelchair Larry Happy New Year. Your Mileage may vary?
Good tip! Am I in the shave mafia? I hope not. All the very best and thanks for the good advice.
