- Episode 3 of the Long Range Gear/ What's In My Pack? series covers the two tripods I carry in my pack: Slik 624CF and Slik 824CF. These carbon fiber tripods are light, durable, and versatile. Twist lock legs allow rapid adjust of height, as well as angle. Also featured is the Manfrotto 324RC2 pistol grip tripod head.
Both of these tripods have proved to be excellent tools for long range hunting and shooting.

Hey Sam, Miss ya on here. Question, does the center column rotate, I’d like to direct mount a hog saddle to the tripod?

Have you used this tripod in conjunction with a hog saddle and a heavy rifle (17+ pounds)? I really like how you can remove the lower section and get it close to the ground. Looks as though you could use it in the prone position?

+Extinction X Yes you can, but I haven't done it yet. I use my HOG saddle on a Manfrotto 055 XPRO B. For hunting, I wouldn't have a problem with using the Slik 824, but for match environments, I just didn't get a warm fuzzy about using it. I've had a 14 pound rifle on it, but I took the head off (just threaded the saddle to the tripod). I don't use the 624 for shooting.
+Panhandle Precision Thanks, i have the manfrotto 055 now. I just saw a shorter 10" center section available for it instead of 19" one that came with it. Most likely go that route.

You definitely want a little vertical adjustment capability, but you won't need more than ~ 10". I rarely come up more than a few inches with the center bar. More than that, and I'm adjusting legs.
