Refinery29 It would be cool to see Mi-Anne do life challenges like the get better sleep challenge, the 7 day meditation challenge, using only one makeup product for a week challenge etc💜
a beyonce transformation With the hair make up EVERYTHING that would be lit
Korean beauty haul
Refinery29 I turned myself into a 70’s Disco Diva and/or I Turned Myself Into An 80’s Music Video Vixen!
Maybe a 24hour challenge with $1000 to find a outfit
I love that you don't just make "here's me trying a makeup look" type of video, bug you actually put in SO much information and research. It makes things even more amazing
+hammsterwondercheeks Thanks for always watching!
If anyone is interested in makeup history, you should probably read Lisa Eldridge's book Face Paint. She looks at beauty icons, make up trends & make up companies through the ages.
+kelmcgowan Thanks for the tip! We
Thanks, I'll check it out!
I'm really sad that I had never heard of Anna May Wong before. Thank you so much for sharing!
+mandyduvall Thanks for checking out the video!
Here's an actual Anna May Wong film. ruclips.net/video/fF2F2mXsRog/видео.html
Anna may would be so proud of this video. Thank you for creating this for us to learn about her.
When they first said Anna May Wong I understood Anime Wand. Anna May makes so much more sense 😂
I thought it was ANIME Wong ha ha
(Its ANNA MAY Wong)
I Want Eat. Oh fuck I did too
same
Yeah saaaame
IKR but I knew it was too good to be true
Sameeeeee
I know people will be clowning on 1920's eyebrows, but those were the standard back then lol. If people from back then saw the makeup we like to do today, they would be like "tf"
I really love this video, well done!
I think what a lot of people forget is that Mi isn’t presenting herself as a makeup or beauty professional. She openly admits she is only learning. Her series was started to document her learning about all different things. Something that almost all women have to face growing up. We are presented with so many people who have makeup artists and professional stylists, our view becomes skewed. Also, she almost always consults a professional in the field. She isn’t full of herself saying she is amazing at the things she tries.
Her fashion video was a disaster but it was interesting to watch and I identified with the humanity of it.
+blithedream Thanks for leaving a positive comment!
I thought you were saying “Anime Wong” the whole time! 😂
Watching Mi do the eyeliner was incredibly satisfying!
i adore anna may wong! when i dove into vintage, like ten years ago, she was one of my favorites old hollywood icons and i used to collect photos of her in my computer but i didn't knew she acted in a drama with vixx's ravi 3:40 i'm shook
HOLY SHIT IT'S RAVI HAHAHAH
Probably my FAVORITE Beauty with Mi!!! ❤️
Jenn Giordano aww thank you I’m so glad you liked it !
Mi you have won me over with this video. I think this informative, historical viewpoint style of video is your natural strong suit. Excellent job!!!
+tinabingham YAY! So glad you're into it, too!
you need an orange corrector for the brows
I just want to say, thank you. I am a big fan of Anna May Wong. Watched many of her movies. Thank you for this
I've always been alt but started mixing alt with 1920s makeup for 3 years now and I absolutely ADORE thin ass line drawn on brows then thick ones on me 100%. I get so much shit for them but idgaf, I could care less bc I absolutely adore the 1920s inspired makeup smmm😩🖤
Thank you for a great informative content. Having seen your videos lately, I’m positive anything you put out will be amazing 😉 Love from Indonesia 🇮🇩
+sarahanditakarina WOW! Thanks for being here!
that triangle trick on the inner corners really pops on you!
Anna Mae Wong-- so beautiful. My favorite old hollywood actress. She could say more with a flick of her eyes than most actresses could with a whole mouthful of words.
I appreciate the work that has gone into the making of this good video instead of just a simple video of attempting some make up. Nice to know more abt Anne May Wong and her contribution towards Hollywood. And also the montage of pictures and the interviews are amazingly done. Keep it up 👍
+juliaho So glad you appreciate the details!
Oh I love when you do these videos that include history and makeup! These are entertaining and informative. I never heard of Anna May before this but I'm always excited to learn of women breaking boundaries and paving ways for us!
Wow Anna May Wong was such a cool lady, I didn't know that much about her because I'm not American but her story is badass.
Also you did a great job with the make up, considering how unfamiliar it must've been to you lol
Her nails were also ahead of her time ugh her mind 😍
Wow! Refinery29 always making quality content! History research, pictures, professional's opinions. Perfection! Go Mi-Anne! Incredible job with the make up.
+stephmeh We try! Thanks for tuning in!
"Anime Wong" is my new Drag name
I always love your videos ♥️♥️ you looked great and it was good to know the historical significance an Asian American (woman of color) had in Hollywood.
+nessablue We couldn't agree more! Thanks for checking it out!
Facts☺☺💫
Hey, this is awesome! It was great to learn about Anna May Wong and the fortunes of WoC in Hollywood in the 20s. It was also great to see your recreation of her look and the tidbits of 20s makeup techniques!!
another woman of color in the Hollywood machine that we heard nothing of until now thank you so much
I'd love to see a biopic about Anna May. It'd be such an interesting story to bring to the big screen.
This was amazing! I really enjoyed all the historical references and Anna May's journey. Nice to watch this episode of Beauty with Mi💐☕💗
Yes, Anna May! I have a hoodie with her image on the back. I may not be Chinese, but she was a strong woman from Oakland, like me! She can inspire anyone, especially women of color! ♥️
Actually, I think Oakland just claims her because she’s tough and her dad lived here. Wherever she’s from, 👏🏾
I LOVE that you have an actual expert who knows his stuff on the topic! LOVE it!!!
I realise you're the beauty person for refinery 29 but I was nevertheless SHOCKED at how well you attempted this look. I can't believe you did such an impressive first attempt !!
I love just about anything Old Hollywood style, so by default - I automatically liked this video 5 seconds in lol 🖤🎩🎀
STACY JANG xo thanks so much for watching and liking :) :)
So happy r29 did a video on Anna May Wong!
+m.danielle :)
What an amazing video. You're really a great makeup artist and host.
She was Stunning!
Great job! Really interesting story. BTW, Lucy Liu is producing and directing an anthology episode of an upcoming docudrama series about Anna May.
Okay but that eyebrows tho🤦😂😂
Was looking for this comment 😂😂
😁😁😁
@@earthandfire4840 😂😂😂
Thank you for this episode. I'm not from USA and I've never been into old movie except for Casablanca so I didn't know about her. Great work as always 💛
Wow! You did such a GREAT job portraying Miss Anna May!
Where did you get that eyeliner & mascara? They seem like great low-waste options :)
Never mind lol, I'm pretty sure she used Besame's black cake mascara for both in case anyone else was wondering!
ok but that man sounds like the voice of the fitness pacer test
I cringed so hard when she swiped the glue stick in the opposite direction of hair growth 😩
That's to get the product on all sides of the hairs of the eyebrow.
Mi-Anne Killed That Look Tho 😍
Awww thanks Ciara!!!!!
Wow this was a great one! I love these history type vids!
mi anne.. you were amazing.. i loved it.. i also love the flapper era.. their style and makeup was beautiful.. i especially love all the hats and feathers they used to wear along with the beaded shag dresses.. 💗
9:05 Those were the roles that they would typecast her for, but she did it
Who are the jerks that dislike this?? Even if “makeup” isn’t your jam can’t people just appreciate a well done, well researched, well executed production on an original subject matter? With the online beauty community being so focused on $$ and perpetuating these unattainable standards though repetitive content focused on selling or consuming high end/ luxury items. I would think these videos would be a much needed reprieve.
Loved this! Such an inspiring, powerful woman!
I LOVE LOVE ur blue wired hair! Ur unique
I REALLY love this channel ❤️
Awesome and intriguing video of an iconic beauty.
I love it! We need more of this!
I love the color of your hair mi so pretty! Also great video too!
Great episode, love the research and explanations, and history lesson.
Omg did anyone else think she was saying Anime Wong?
Edit after reading first 5 comments:
Oh yeah everyone else did!
This is very inspiring! But why do you call it a video about "A 1940's Hollywood Star" if it is set in the 1920s, meaning that Anna May Wong was even more ahead of her time?
you're right! it was a typo haha it's all fixed now! Thanks so much for watching, Miriam! She was truly an amazing woman!
Thanks for fixing it! Have been watching all your videos and find these historical ones most fascinating!
Omg you look amazing! The was such a good and informative video
The eyebrows scream more 20s/30s than 40s to me
yes definitely. In the 40's they were thicker.
eep! thanks for pointing out! fixed the typo :) Thanks for watching!
Mi-Anne Chan
Mi-Anne Chan It was such a good video! I loved learning about her

Rather watch this than drama channels reviewing the James Charles saga.
Loved this! please please have a drag queen put you in drag makeup!
I think Asian women are so pretty♡
What do you mean you think
They were, are and always be pretty
@@johnnyboy9239 yes they are
the cover said 1940s not 1920s
Yey early luv her
One of the first..the best.
One thing we get sad in... our beauty stars once were permitted to look like women and men...
We now search for children in a way.
That was AWESOME!!! ❤
I enjoy very much her story
Love love LOVE
Please tell me what eye liner you are using
She's using Bésame Black Cake Mascara
Thank you
Who else thought she said anime Wong

Hello Refinery29..Mi-Anne..
Thank you for this history/ educational post..the make up tutorial Mi-Anne thank you 20"s inspired make up/ hair i love it 😍😍
Sincerely Tj
Shouldn’t you use the glue in the direction of the eyebrows to avoid fluffing them out?
I love her who else’s 🥺🥀
I love the name DRAGON LADY
What eyeliner is Mi using?
It's the besame cake mascara! the brand makes products similar to the ones made in the 20s and Gabriela (the founder) told me many women at the time would use their cake mascara as liner :)
@@Mianne_chan Thank you ❤❤
Early squad
