Moral of the story folks and number one rule in electronics Repair, thou shall check voltages! Sometimes the only way of finding an issue is by finding where the voltage isn't and tracing it back from there. Of course it's a massive help if you have a known good unit to compare against but in principal it's not strictly necessary. Hopefully someone will produce some reference material to provide informaion like expected voltages and resistances.
Really enjoyed this Phil, hopefully this means more ps5's will be saved as a result of this find.
Absolutely mate, it's nice to know that what was discovered last night is potentially going to save thousands of people from buying a new console as well as bringing more work in for independent techs
I FIRMLY believe that any company that designs a product that cannot be used and charged at the same time does not deserve its customers. This is such a basic function and the reality is if they cannot make it work then they really shouldn't be in business. it's made even worse when the batteries are built-in as opposed to removable.

Sadly not yet mate all I know from how the circuit is designed is that it'll be a 5v to 3.3v buck converter. I imagine they'll be the same as on a ps4 though to be honest because the ps4 pro does have 2 similar chips near the apu. I might try putting one on and testing it
What you could do with this Sony and too close HDMI port, is to buy a cable with 90 degrees plug, and that would solve the issue :). Worth to google those things - just saying ;).

the i fixit teardown shows the chip by south bridge Texas Instruments TLV62090 3A Step Down Converter, hopefully these are available, hope this helps shows all the other chips too but board looks a different revision

Nice job..I have the same issue with the IC not delivering the 3.3v, I do have the 5v going. any idea what an alternative chip ID is, I do not have a donor board. The chip information is SBV T1 081 A145. Thanks

Could only watch an hour or so live, was awesome as always. Regarding powerline I hope you have better reliability then me; I usually see drops for a minute or two every few hours. It's just good enough that I dont normally notice but I don't stream... hope it works for you!
Thanks mate. The TP Link ones I bought should work OK, because I use TP Link mesh WiFi and TP Link network switches so I'd imagine they should work well together. I also rewired my house myself a couple of years ago so the wiring is all good in the house

That fuse done the job of what the other board should of done but failed to do so it blew the chip :)
Yeah I think it was a bit slow though, it might be worth upgrading them to a faster fuse when they're being repaired

Yeah they're not bad for the price of them. They work out around £0.60/$1 per pair and work pretty well

No thats unlikely to be honest because the 3.3v rail doesn't control the apu at all so I couldn't see it being related
