Wow! What a delight to see this footage for the first time (and it's the Australia Day long weekend here). 1981 - I was only 11 and most likely at school, not that I would have known the significance then, of what Dusty means to me now. Thankyou for sharing this. :))
At about 10:15 the host asks her about her upcoming marriage. She says the "man" is tall dark and handsome and a musician from Toronto. Her name was Carole Pope. You can read about their relationship in her (Carole's) book Anti-Diva.
That's my point. She pretended like she was marrying a man for the interview....when all along it was Carole Pope (a musician in Toronto) she was talking about. And actually, she didn't marry Carole, she married another woman in LA, but not leagally back then. The LA woman was the one that knocked out all her teeth with a frying pan.
@@OctoberOhio Yes, I'm thinking maybe Carole was the one she should have stayed with. I believe Carole really loved her and was good for her. But Carole says Dusty was hell bent on self-destruction and I guess she proved it by leaving her and getting involved with someone equally bent on destroying her.
Sadly Dusty's two secret and short-lived lesbian relationships did not last in the early 80's. Carole Pope and then a few months later Teda Bracci both were tempestuous. Dusty "married" Teda around November 1983 but separated within two years.
Personally I think Carole and Dusty were a good fit, both being from the music industry and lots of other things in common. Plus both were intellectually smart while I'd say Carole was also a little more street smart. I understand Teda was an ex-con. No idea what she went to prison for, but you can kinda understand where this was bound to be headed for with two incongruous personalities, and it went there.
I agree, the band is really off beat, and it's seems like they're purposely changing tempo just to mess with Dusty. She handled it like a champ. Such versatility and grace under pressure. It's her song and she can do it anyway she wants.
Great to see Dusty.
the mike walsh show....no one has been better since!
Dusty Springfield one of the true greats singers
One of my favorite videos of Dusty!
Wonderful interview Mike Walsh was always a great fun interviewer in like a lot of other interviews

WOW WOW WOW !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
From a mad keen 75yo Aussie fan.
Nice to see the song and interview all together Darren!! She was very relaxed and he was always a good interviewer ...Thank you.
Loved it!!! Thank you for the upload. ;)
She was so modern for 1981! Amazing given her career was already decades old.

@@JanBee1122 We will never know!
@@JanBee1122 from reading the Dusty chapter in Carole's book, it was Carole who broke off that relationship with Dusty.

So what? What's her private life got to do with her professional life? RIP

It's a miracle Dusty sang this so well on Australian tv live.....the arrangement is just terrible it sounds as if the bands pissed.

Dusty was, as always, excellent but the musical arrangement for this song just terrible! Could the band read music? RIP
Yeah, they kept changing tempo and it was really off. She handled it well, as always.
