Emmy !!! when I was very small (early 1960s) I used to find little dark squares (looked like they were cut into squares by hand) at the bottom of my dad's suit pockets...he said they were breath fresheners and I loved them (liquorice yum)...have always wondered what they were - I think you've brought a very old memory back to me and solved a mystery...thank you!!
How cool to read!
Zen Zen. Tiny liquorice squares used as breath mints. Often used by those who had a drink and didn't want to smell like alcohol.
i know it's kinda off topic but do anyone know a good place to watch new movies online?
@Matias Wesley Ehh I use Flixportal. you can find it by googling:) -ulises
@Ulises River thanks, I went there and it seems like a nice service :D I really appreciate it!!
The silver powder is called lustre dust! You can get it in all sorts of colours and it's used on cakes and candies and any instance when you want a metallic shine on a confectionary.
It's really adorable to watch you encounter flavors you don't know. It goes from innocent curiosity to confusion and it looks like you're trying to stop time or defuse a bomb.
LOL!!! "...tastes like grandma's attic." Big points for the Opinel knife, one of my favorites! My son and I collect them.
3:09 i thought the sound was coming from my stomach lool
As soon as I saw her with the Sen Sen I was like ... girl, you do not know what danger you court.
I grew up eating Chowards (Violet Flavor) which my Mom charmingly dubbed as Violets for little me. Always a treat (for good behavior)! Many years later I found a tiny store that sells a Guava flavor in the Bronx, NY! Its my new/old favorite solution for a sweet tooth!
They still make them! I can find them in the Metropolitan Detroit area. Chowards are really tasty. 😋
You biting the jawbreaker scared the hell out of me, that was LOUD.
"Fresh pack of Lucky's and a mint called sen-sen" Billy Joel -- Keeping the Faith.
The first thing I thought of when she said Sen-Sen.
Mint and chocolate ARE the best of friends :)
All the effort you put into your vids! So descriptive, the music, the thumbnail pic etc. Just love ittttt xxx
Scatty C Thank you for noticing. :)
Hello from Croatia,Zagreb...Wanna to ask you have you ever try AFTER MIDNIGHT thin chocolate leafs with mint inside, and theey come in sticks too.... xx
I just want to say, I think the Absinthe candy got the flavor right if you're getting black licorice. That's basically what the stuff tastes like. :P
sen-sens are so good, i grew up in canada, in a pentecostal church and that is what we always had as candies there!
I'm going to phili thus weekend I will make sure to stop by and pick some candy's up thanks!
Ok omg I laughed so hard because I had no idea what sen sen was until i was obsessed with the musical 'The Music Man' where there's one lyric about Sen Sen and how your kids will come home with it on their breath- LOL!
My dad ( who passed in 2012 at 92 ) loved Sen-Sen. He ate them as a child . Very old candy. I waved at the screen warning you! Danger danger Will Robinson! Licorice flavor about to happen!
sen-sen is my favorite. the italian side of my fam used to call it "getting high on sen-sen." :)
If you're happy and you know it, rub your tummy!!
Main ingredient of Absinth is vermouth (wormwood) It's a bitter herbage. You can find it in healthy teas.
3:05 dat sound
Her face when she read licorice lol
My dad went to Taiwan on a trip and came back with tons of REALY cool treats. He brought back this box of chocolates and one of them was tea flavored. Lol
Hi! Emmy! I wanted to share a quick tip with you. Coconut Kefir water is an excellent digestive aid for when you've had too much sugar. You can purchase it from just about all health food stores. I'm a pastry chef and I drink it whenever I feel out of sync after having too much sugar. Just thought you'd like to know about it! Also, it tastes kinda weird but it really helps!
Neat! Thanks for sharing. My husband's great aunt used to make gingerbread houses & would include (what I think was) a barley candy hand coming out of the front door.
Hi Emmy! I love your channel! Thank you for making all these fun videos c:
Oh Lord Emmy, when you held up that package of SenSen, I said NOOOOOOOOOO Emmy don't eat those!!!!

Im born and raised in Philadelphia the two brothers that own Shane's also own the Franklin fountain a old fashion ice cream parlor .before the brothers bought Shane's it was family run and owned

Your videos are so informative and fun at the same time. I like seeing all of the treats from other countries and being told what they taste like. I stumbled across your channel by accident a few days ago and now I can't stop watching😀 I even subscribed.
+Donna Gilhousen Thanks for the comments Donna! :)
emmymadeinjapan You are welcome!!😄😄
+emmymadeinjapan You know I was afraid that mustache was going to be licorice...but you dodged the bullet. When you picked up the sensen I knew it was all over lol! Thank God you didn't dump a bunch in your mouth! I don't like licorice much either-tho I don't mind black jelly beans too much-so I can commiserate! Lovely vid as usual. Thankyou Emmy!
I'm from Philadelphia and my sister worked on 5th and Market. She'd always buy me Shane's dark chocolate butter creams. I loved them. Shane's has the best chocolate.
I love how descriptive you are emmy love ya
the violet version is outstanding would love for u to try them . again... it is quite sweet with very faint background of violet not overpowering at all and it does give you your breath a very unique smell that people will dote on! always enjoy your videos have a wonderful fabulous rest of your week...xox Erin
OMG I jumped when I heard that "meow"! Also, love your nails, Emmy!
I bought some choward's mints that were violet in a candy shop on pier 39 in San Francisco, I love them.

Agreed. Whenever I'm upset and stressed I watch one of Emmy's videos. Her sunny personality and zany sense of humor always make me feel better. Thanks Emmy!!
Sen Sen is mentioned in the Billy Joel song Keeping the Faith.
Omg I died when you bit off the cat head and I heard that cat meow sound! You have a great sense of humour ;D
"that tastes like grandma's attic" lol!

Hi Emmy! It's been a while since I've watched this, but it used to be my favorite video of yours. I grew up with my Pap always giving us grandkids Clear Toys. They also make great decorations!
Go to Salem it's so much fun all the witchy type things are amazing
Emmy, the pastilles are great! They were so cute and so dainty and that precious little can. I have not seen those in years. Thanks.
Thanks for the very detailed review.
The appearance of the candy and the packaging is great.
I love your videos~ I can't wait for the next one.
it make me just happy.
I love Sen Sen, lol
You share things you love, thats why you have such a big snd friendly fanbase.
Emmy its so amazing how when you compare things you are tasting, to things you have tried previously, you remember the exact place they were from and other details!
I just subscribed! I love you personally and uniqueness! Stay awesome Emmy! Much love from NC ❤️
My mother LOVED SenSens and whenever she could find them, the whole package was gone in minutes (strange for how strong they were)
I love making my own chocolates. This video gave me so new ideas to try. Thank you!
I just love watching your videos! :)
When I was in elementary school I used to go to the bookstore, in the little town I grew up in near Yosemite, to buy those little round tins of French candy to give to my girlfriends. They had the fruit ones but also one that was lavender with an anise seed in the center. I had forgotten all about those. :)
Love Emmy eats videos! :D
In Stuttgart we always got sugar rabbits at Easter. You could only get them in that era.
Lol I love how you delicately tasted the mustache lollipop. I would have literally stuck the entire thing in my mouth.
I have learned much from this video. Fascinating!😮
I've had the cartridge candy and the black sugar stuff. They were both at a local museum and at an old battle fort. I love them!
Your "face" when you say LICORICE!!😅😅😅❤️
love the video very cool candy. and now we get to see Emmy antics during the vid, super cool
emmy get the choward's violet flavor mints--you will like them! they are unique--peppermints ok, but chowards is famous for its violet flavor.
I loved this
My father used to buy the violet flavored Chowards candy and the gum. He was a smoker and used them to mask the smell of cigarette on his breath. I remember me, my older sister and brother used to steal them from him because wet loved the flavor so much😁❤
I love how crunchy the chocolate seems~
Emmy, you are truely amazing! Pls make more videos!! :D
omg when you ate the cats head off and that meowing sound came i literally thought it was my puppy right next to my ear wining.
I'm a Civil War reenactor, and I'm really familiar with quite a few of these old fashioned candies. And, unfortunately, VERY familiar with Sen Sen, it was the only breath freshener my father always seemed to have. I hate them.
But those cartridge candies were my favorite, I liked eating them during the cannonball firing!
the Opinel no 8 is my favorite knife as well.
NB rellentless not a bad knife, cheap to.
I, too, study the blade
Thanks Emmy those candies looked so delicious. I had to pause half way though to inject myself with 40 units of insulin. The home made candies reminded me of a neat place my last girlfriend and I loved to go to when we visited Galveston. Tx called " The Peanut Butter Warehouse. They sold many old curios and the like but as you first walked in there was an old time candy counter.
Ohhhh I just love your videos!!! I just stumbled on them today.I subscribed right away.If you need a good dentist let me know my practice is in San Francisco. Lol
I'm dying right now, Sen-Sen my grandfather used to have a package with him and I remember asking to taste it and that was the last time I ever asked for some ever again that was 45 yrs ago. Haha 😂
Sen-Sen used to come in a small bow with a hole in one corner to shake a single one out of. I bought them from time to time just because I liked them. These and horehound drops were two of my favorites.
Love your vids Emmy, my 4 yr old son and I watch them religiously and he loves them, so thanks.
i just love how you're willing to try foods even though you don't particularly care for them!
Ah, I absolutely adore the ending of all your recent videos. You're extremely endearing!
I used to love those little French candies your dad got you too! :)
13:38 I immediately thought of fruit drops from Grave Of The Fireflies❤️
That poor kitty, and with the sound effect too ;A; nuuu!
"Sucrerie" is indeed a French word, roughly meaning "candy shop."
Now I want to try those Black Jacks... mmmmm... If you're happy and you know it, rub your tummy :3
You are so much fun! I'm thinking that when I grow up, I wanna be EMMY!!!
Love your videos.
Happy Halloween.
The old time molded sugar things,( hand squirrel cat), used to be made out of barley sugar with no flavorings. The barley sugar had a distinctive taste fuller and richer than regular cane sugar. Like sugar just about ready to caramelize. At Mystic seaport the apothecary shop also used to have molasses stick candy. Mystic CT.
man. had to go to the cabinet and get out a gibralter to eat. Now i cant stop. XD
I remember my aunt use to eat sen sen....She gave them to me when I was a kid....I definitely didn't like them 😨..they sure packed a punch for being so tiny!
My dad used to keep sen sen in his drawer at work. I remember sneaking them when we would go visit him. I adore that memory of childhood!
I’m from Lancaster, PA (lots of PA Dutch in our traditions) my great grandmother until she passed gave us clear toy candy on a stick every year at Christmasz
