How much should a creator involve his/her audience in the creative process? There's no right or wrong, so let me know in the comments! :)

Inspiring and enlightening video, encouraging watcher to take action!
To your postulation: I wonder whether creating content based on viewer demand versus creating content based on creator's own passion does not evolve towards a narrower field of vision. To me it's exactly fascinating to watch what others are passionate about, other than my own passion. I believe I can learn and develop from this, grow as a person, discover new things I can become passionate about, evolve, ...
This is how I feel about it, but I fully respect and appreciate if others feel differently about this.

Personally, I think the creator should do what they want to do, and the true fans will support that decision. If they try to do what the audience wants, they may end up alienating some, while not being truly happy with their content. Continuing down that path may make that person have regrets and possibly lead to burn out.
I have to say I found your channel through Greg and I love your content. Very inspirational. :D

Thank you Barbara!! I like to believe that you're right, yet think that creation in the online world has taken a bit of a twist and is shifting towards "do what the audience, and more importantly the algorithm wants". Which, like you, I dont believe is right or helpful for anyone. Feedback and constructive criticism is good but only if it is in line with the creator's values and voice. Thanks for watching, glad you're here 😊

Great insights here Nellie. It's a perfect video for those interested in Nathaniel's course. Almost like an overview of the course from your point of view which I hope others would also find valuable.

I think it’s about the type of content. If your instructional or review it’s important to provide value for your subscribers. If your Channel is creative then you have to go with what inspires you.
Also I am fascinated by the concepts of “Tabula Rasa” and the assumption of free will. In my research limiting beliefs are planted not self generating. As well as many other fascists of our personality and belief systems. You should check out Derren Brown. He’s and illusionist but he explains how he manipulates our minds. 🥂

Totally agree! Depends on the topic and value you decide to provide 🙏

A creator should always be happy with his work, not trying to please everyone.

Personally, if I like the channel and creator(s) (so basically their personality and storytelling) behind it I'll probably watch most of the videos even though some might not be as interesting to me as others. So I'm all in on what the creator decides to do instead of asking for specific content ... however, I do understand people that ask for videos, like for specific tutorials etc, and also creators that do videos based on what their viewers want but they themselves are not as passionate about.
Based on that I really liked Sara Dietschy's concept "one for me, one for them", so for every video she does that people might like, will get views and help grow the channel (like tech reviews) she also creates a video that she's (more) passionate about and doesn't care (as much) about channel growth etc

Follow your passion and do what is true to you... not what others want unless the two are aligned

I would say you should work to make yourself happy first otherwise the risk is if your working to please others first you might lose the pleasure in doing your work. Feedback can be good for creativity as long as you don't let feedback become the controlling element of your work.

This is a great video, and thank you for posting this! This has been something which I have been thinking about a lot this year. I care deeply about my followers and viewers, and they have provided a lot of great feedback as well as requests for video content especially with the driving videos I do on my channel along with my vlogs. However, I feel that there needs to be a balance between providing content for what the viewers want and the content I feel the most proud of producing. For example, I had a request from 2 or 3 people to do a specific type of video earlier this year which I went ahead and did. There were parts of the video where I had a good time filming it, but there were other times during the same video where I was feeling very frustrated and not like myself. I really need to keep in mind to only do something which I can put my full heart into and not be afraid of not doing something requested by my followers if I feel that I cannot provide my true potential. Although it's not good to be selfish, it is also not good to be too selfless. Finding that balance is key, and that is something I want to keep working at! Thank you again for this great video!

Thank you for your honesty Scott. I think as crestors we all struggle with that, some more, some less, some consciously, some unconsciously. Request and feedback are good and helpful, but only of they line up with your values and creative voice 🙂

Sometimes I wonder what type of channel this will turn out to be, traveling? Nomadic career? Personal Journal? Good luck in finding your identity, I for one enjoy your traveling content the most.

      @NellieWinter  4 года назад

Yep me too. I don't think it'll be travelling Im sorry. Travel will always be part of my life and of who I am but the classic travel vlogging days are over for me. If that's what you'd like to see then you might find a channel that entertains you better. 🙂 but for now I'm glaf you're here of course.
