Victor Vettese Still have to give a slight nod to Bird. Clearly Jordan was a far superior athlete and could dominate games, often as a one man wrecking crew. But Bird was a much better shooter, better free throw percentage, better passer, and a better rebounder. Going back to college Bird led the unknown Indiana State Sycamores to an undefeated season, falling 1 game short of a national championship to a far superior Magic Johnson led Mich State. Jordan was a very good college player, but you can’t even begin to compare NC ,with the abundance of talent they had , to IS, a program that basically fell off the map after Bird left. Yes, Jordan was better lockdown defensive player, but Bird still averaged almost 2 steals a game. Yes Jordan does have more championships but looking at clutch performances, that’s a toss up. I guess in the end it like saying Coke is better than Pepsi because although there are plenty of objective measurements to rank players, the overwhelming factor on deciding who’s best is always going to be subjective

Bird was the smartest, most efficient and skilled player in any sport, ever. Those Lakers vs. Celtics battles during the 80s were incredible. Much better than what we see today.
I love Bird, but that particular title most likely goes to Gretzky. Wayne Gretzky had 60+ records when he retired, and had more assists than anyone else had total points. I was a kid in the '80s, and grew up in New England. I got to see a lot of those Bird-led Celtics. He'd probably be my number 1 overall pick.

Michael Jordan May be the de facto “Best Player Ever”, but an All Time Team without Larry Bird on it would be a joke. Part of his appeal is how awkward and un-intimidating he appears, but he has the competitiveness of an assassin, and he plays the game with an unmatched fluidity.
'Awkward'? I dunno, but a true 6'9" with long arms not intimidating? Reggie Miller's first time on the court with him, he said he was shocked at how big he was. He was a 3 way threat, meaning he could shoot, pass, and had handles. He had the league average in speed and hops pre-twin Achilles surgeries. He really only lacked quick feet, but because of the triple threat, still broke ankles as the vid shows. You play up tight, he fakes and dribbles around you. You play off, he shoots over you, double team--you really didn't want to do that. Because of versatility, his fakes were super effective.[as one player put it, playing him was like 'being caught between a fart and a shit] He was the most intimidating player for years. No one wanted to guard him. Worthy said he'd rather guard Jordan because of Bird's mind games. He was so ruthless he is the only guy who ever caused Dr J to throw hands. Bird is the most misunderstood player ever. Not trying to start shit, btw. Just never remember him NOT seeming intimidating[I remember the Cowens Celtic titles] I hated the Celtics and Bird when he played, like everyone else whose team was in the East [Cavs]. Now, for many reasons, fav player. It's like when a boxer hugs a guy just beat the shit out of him when it's over...the Celtics also made for some boring games because they'd make the game feel over before it started, believed in building big leads and slowing it down, controlling those boards
Michael Jordan is the know basketball player in the world. And the NBA promoted him as such. So thats why he is said to be the best ever. Lebron is promoted as the greater ever. Boost tickets and ratings. MLB does not do that. If you replaced MJ with Wilt as in put MJ in Wilt's time and Wilt in MJ's time we would be saying Wilt is the greatest. Also he would have beem the most known Basketball player in the world. MJ would be considered a great and the goat SG still probably. But guys would make up crap like MJ played in the weak 60s and 70s eras. Remember back then Less than 10% of games were televised. They did alot of crazy good moves and shots we never will see because of no footage.
@@porkfrog2785 He only looked awkward and unassuming, but played with relentless fluidity and efficiency. I truly believe he wanted people to think he was awkward, slow and unathletic. I was born In 1966 and from Boston so I went to a lot of Celtics games during the Bird era as my sister and brother-in-law had season tickets. So I went to playoffs including the 1984 finals against The Lakers. He was also a guy with a sense of humor. There are videos of interviews with his contemporaries, who tell funny stories of his trash talking.

It’s not on this video But there is one where he made an impossible shot and he’s running back down the court and an opposing player gave him a hi five
Hakeem was not fully developed until after season 3 or 4. He started basketball at age 16 and was a soccer player before. He had to develop better passing. Teams took advantage of that weakness. Larry Bird was fully developed before rookie season.
The best player all around I've ever seen and i grew up watching him. One of the highest basketball IQ's of all time. Amazing player who is often overlooked because of his skin color.
Yep...he even got really pissed once and felt so disrespected he yell out at the opposing team " You sent a WHITE GUY to cover me?" lol, and he also said "no one can cover me!" He was right!
You can’t talk about Larry Bird without Magic Johnson, and vice versa. The NBA was full of druggies and on the verge of bankruptcy when they came along. Their rivalry probably saved the NBA as we know it.
Stern is on record as saying that Bird/Magic did indeed save the NBA! The Lakers/Celtics made people want to watch again and they made people talk about the league and then Jordan came behind them and took the game global!! All of today's players and the MEGA contracts they sign was made possible by these 3 players and others of course but Bird, Magic and Jordan should all get a percentage of all mega contracts......lol

Ive been a Laker fan since I was a little kid in the late 70's, remember the 80's so fondly. Magic was my guy, hated the Celtics and Bird. Bird and Magic were always compared because they were the 2 best in the 80's, they had the basketball IQ and were step ahead of everyone else. To me Magic was better, no doubt right? Well I was biased, Bird and Magic were very similar, they could score, pass and rebound and will their team to a Win, but Bird had a distinct advantage, he could shoot from anywhere on the floor, pretty much like no other, he was a killer, and to me, he is right up there with MJ for best ever, probably now my favorite non Laker
While trying to describe how good someone can play a sport is difficult one quality to look at is the quality of the opposing players. Bird played against some of the best and consistently came out on top.
Absolutely. He was the greatest to ever play. Magic, MJ, Lebron, all remarkable players but Bird made every area of the game an art form and he'd beat you in every facet of the game. And insult you while doing it.
In his video "Air Time", Jordan expressed his frustration regarding Bird and Magic's early retirements because he was chasing them. He definitely was not jumping for joy since he wanted some payback. Thus, their intense competition during The Dream Team practices.
I did get to go to a few Celtics games as a kid, when it was Bird, McHale, Parrish, DJ, and Ainge. What a powerhouse. While he was always focused on the ball, Bird always seemed to know where everyone was on the court. At times, I swore he and DJ were telepathic.
I saw him play live when I was a young kid he pretty much could destroy you a hundred different ways and tell the opponent what he was going to do and he still could not be stopped!! True legend anyway you slice !!
When I was a young teen we had season tickets for ISU games when Larry played. My dad loved him. We all loved him. What he did here was amazing and he made me fall in love with basketball. I remember running into my room and crying when we lost the title game to Magic and the Spartans. I'm so happy I was alive to witness his greatness, because as Magic said, there will never be another Larry Bird.

I don't remember the player that said it, but he commented that Bird could move sideways as fast as most could move forward.
He just looks kind of awkward ( he's obviously not ) . He's an incredible athlete.
Remember back then
Less than 10% of games were televised.
They did alot of crazy good moves and shots we never will see because of no footage.
@@porkfrog2785 He only looked awkward and unassuming, but played with relentless fluidity and efficiency. I truly believe he wanted people to think he was awkward, slow and unathletic. He used that proverbial “Hick from French Lick” persona like another weapon in his arsenal. His trash talking seems more playful than empty-headed chest beating, always with a wry whit to it.
Yessss!!!! My man Larry Bird! You should watch a clip just on his trash talking lol, its one of the best all time (I'd say Jordan is the only one who was better, personally).
Nice to see someone who didn't get to experience or know of Larry Bird in their time but were moved none the less by watching him for the first time.
Yeah, matchups between Bird and Jordan...😳
Michael Price Bird outscored Jordan in a third of the games they went head to head.
They made video games about this matchup.
I've seen most every Larry Bird highlight there is and I saw most of those when they occurred back in the day. I have to say that watching someone see them for the first time is just amazing! We get to share with you as you see just how amazing he was. Great video! I'm subscribed!
You should watch magic johnsons mixtapes him and Larry bird were rivals
Larry Bird was a real live superhero.
Greatest EVER.
Always love these people who are new to the truth and the greatness of Larry Legend, the best ever! Good to watch these children come to the light!
It’s not on this video
But there is one where he made an impossible shot and he’s running back down the court and an opposing player gave him a hi five
I could listen to you talk all day about anything!
They didn’t call him Larry Legend for nothing.
Thought i would get bored seeing another Larry Bird video. I wasn't. Still amazing to watch. unbelievable.
Do a Hakeem Olajuwon reaction
Yo for real, I grew up in Houston so I'm all about the old school rockets bro
@@chadwickvon8019 ditto
Somebody said on Twitter one time “every white person has an aunt who looks like Larry Bird” lmao
Leviticus Cornwall the twitter thing is interesting because the twitter bird was originally Larry Bird.
🤣🤣🤣
This reaction was literally the same way I felt when I watched it! He was truly amazing, a GOAT for sure! Thank you for this reaction!!!! 😃
Now do a reaction to the other guy in the video, Magic Johnson.
My favorite is when he asked the opposing coach what the scoring record was in their arena and beat it that night! Hahaha!!
Third time seeing this Bird video - it is so well done !
React to Pat Tillman nfl saftey and amarican hero
not to many times i full screen a video........but a larry bird video is a must
Omg girl, thank you for putting a big ass smile on an old man's face🌝 this took me back.
I was at the game in Portland, he was something to watch👍 thanks again be safe.
I lived in Boston during the Larry Bird era and every Celtics game was must-see TV.
I'm 50 years old and I'm so fortunate I got to see Larry Bird play as it happened. That's why I see guys now in the N.B.A and I'm like not impressed. 👍😎🐶
The three point contest footage is from the third annual, Larry's 3rd straight win, and he never even took off his warm up jacket. The Legend
I just finished a book on Larry.... When it comes out , You'll getta copy =)
While trying to describe how good someone can play a sport is difficult one quality to look at is the quality of the opposing players. Bird played against some of the best and consistently came out on top.
Big ups from Scotland and shout outs to my whanau in east auckland.
Bird is a legend and i only started watching nba just as he retired!
Good video!
React to magic Johnson highlights best passes!!
I believe 100% beyond a shadow of a doubt, that Larry Bird in his prime, could handle and beat anybody past or present in their prime.
Absolutely. He was the greatest to ever play. Magic, MJ, Lebron, all remarkable players but Bird made every area of the game an art form and he'd beat you in every facet of the game. And insult you while doing it.
93 was towards the end of his career..
He actually retired in 1992.
Larry Bird and Magic Johnson save the NBA in the 80's.
His attitude and skills was like he's black.
He was smarter than his opponents, which made him white.
the man was a wizard. so great in all aspects of the game.
U should react to giannis antetokounmpo
I loved her reactions to watching him for the first time. Excellent post young lady, thank you!
You should watch the Dream Team by Joseph Vincent
I suggest similar without seeing your comment.
@@ashkanserat 🤘👍🇺🇸
I just watched that again the other night. Great documentary!
He not only used his talent but his mentality was awsome
You should react to Zion Williamson high school highlights.
Or mow the lawn or paint your bathroom.
Her expressions were priceless!
Fun fact: Michael Jordan was jumping for joy when, Larry Bird retired. That's says a lot there.
MJ learned a lot from Bird... he improved his game learning from the best. It's the only way if you want to be a winner
Of course cuz he couldn't beat him so only way he could win was for Bird to retire
@Marino 0-6, actually. But let's not forget about McHale, Parish, DJ, & Walton.
In his video "Air Time", Jordan expressed his frustration regarding Bird and Magic's early retirements because he was chasing them. He definitely was not jumping for joy since he wanted some payback. Thus, their intense competition during The Dream Team practices.
@@AJ........ Bird actually retired after the Bulls won two titles. The Pistons had already overtaken the Celtics by 1988.
Years later I heard Magic, one of Larry's rivals during their career, talk about how they became friends. A beautiful story, really.
Bird was also an elite snit talker. He always backed it up too.
