- It's pretty awesome to see the improvements made to cinematic mode and how good it is now. What do you think? Would you use this in place of a big heavy vlog set-up Or is it still not good enough?
*I also forgot to mention to turn off HDR in the settings if you want to have less issues with making your skin tones look awful.

very underrated topic. this should get a million views because this is actually the feature that made me wanna buy this phone. I'm glad someone made an emphasis on this topic because the tech reviewers didn't really talk about it much and this feature can actually replace a dslr for social media contents.

I just bought the 14 Max Pro so was hoping for good results, but genuinely impressed by the footage you captured.
It’s absolutely a realistic option to vlog with an iPhone nowadays & have it look professional.
It always looks much better on the phone screen. Once I had the cinematic mood footage on my 32” 4K monitor that’s when I go, oh yeah it’s not as good as I thought haha

Hopefully you have your 14 by now. I just got mine about a week ago and the cinematic mode is awesome! Before I saw this video, I shot a 10 second clip on the regular video mode in 4K @24fps (a simple pan shot) and it came out a little jittery. I did the same shot in cinematic mode and it was buttery smooth! And he was right, it’s like it has a filter on it because it was sharp but it wasn’t overbaked like in the regular video mode. If you don’t have the phone yet, get it!! I wish I would’ve made the move sooner! And it’s the first time I’ve got a phone with the top of the line camera. And I love it!!
Great video! This showcases that this is the first iPhone which truly can replace pretty much every vlog camera. I had no idea this was shot on an iPhone!
the issue which is always there is that even you buy the new 14 pro, you still can't film a great cinematic video like this
The trick is camera movement and positioning the subject in the best lighting. It’s the same things I would do with a real cinema camera

I know I’m late to the party but I’d love to see your take on Cinematic mode in the iPhone 15 PM. So much coverage of the ProRes LOG - it’s like Cinematic mode has been forgotten… thanks for this video - it’s chock full of information.
It’s basically exactly the same on the 15. Most coverage is on ProRes LOG because it’s amazing and really turns this phone into something you can use professionally.

It’s a shame that the front facing camera looks less digital compared to the main one. Hopefully they will reduce the digital sharpness in the future.

Yes you are correct the cinematic mood seems to have the best video if you're wanting to compare it to a DSLR but as you mentioned the exposure is an issue but also I see a pretty significant issue with white balance it's almost as if we need to be able as you see locked exposure and also be able to lock the white valance it just doesn't keep up, Apple I believe is on something here they just need to get on the ball they need more manual options
I'll get the iPhone 15 when it comes out.

Thanks for the great review, you got me sold. Would you use a Moment anamorphic lens? Also is it worth it to ge the Filmic Pro app and DJI gimble for this phone?
I think for now this is a good option. once they add optical zoom and aperture adjustments mechanically to a phone this problem will be gone. they just need to come up with something smart to defy physics and put it all on a phone. it can be done.

@@jerrywilliams4442 sometimes the technology in our Era isn't quite there yet, and besides it was done already by tecno pova. a few more adjustments and we're already there.

Phones are getting better nowadays. U can't really tell the differrence compare to DSLR. Even the phone better in some ways unless your a wild life photographer that would be different story

Thanks for this. I am still using the 13 Pro Max, with the cinematic mode only running in HD, so the chance to actually shoot in 4k is something that I would really like. However, it;s not just the inability to lock exposure that I don't like - it's not being able to lock white balance. I really hate seeing the baalance shifting during a pan At least in the normal video mode, a long press on the screen will lock everything...
And iOS 17 arrived with white balance locking. Great point and we're lucky it's solved.

Hi, I loved how your image looks in this video, what kind of editing did you do with the final cut to make this video look so great?
Im filming long videos (30+ mins) with my iPhone 14 pro using the cinematic mode, and it’s great, EXCEPT that it causes my phone to overheat pretty quickly then the background blur effect stops and sometimes my iPhone decides to stop the recording and lock the phone after 30 seconds from the last time I touched it, and my phone has been acting weird sometimes like the battery draining fast sometimes … so yeah Im not sure it’s good for serious filming.
Maybe because it is stupid to use regular phone for “serious” filming?
Have you consider that for a really good reason?
You want to get serious, buy a proper camera.

_When cinematic cameras are being used to make a movie, it is very rare when they shoot a film in any kind of mode, other than raw video footage; that is why when it is played back and reviewed on a dub screen on set it looks nothing like a cinematic movie until it hits the studios to be edited and finalized, this is the purpose of shooting in raw video_

I vaguely remember an app for older iPhones that allowed them to record video in 4K, even if the iPhone only had a 1080P camera. I think the app sold for about $100. Could we possibly see something similar for 8K video?

I'd be super interested to know what your experience of editing the footage is... like I'm really struggling to get the iphone 14 pro max cinematic footage 4k 24 fps cinematic to look great in Davinci. What is your workflow? Do you apply a LUT? Please, any info to a newbie would be so gratefully received! Or maybe you have a video already on this topic?
I’m pretty sure it is just how the footage looks from the camera. The right lighting helps. I didn’t apply anything too the footage. Maybe minor exposure corrections. The only advice I can give is to lower the exposure compensation down in the camera app. To like -1 or -1.5 because that adds some more contrast and less overexposed

True. You can really notice it even in my talking head footage. Anytime I bring my hands up it will slightly shift

I have a new 1TB iPhone 13 Pro Max for financial reasons ($750 off) I just bought 2 months ago and I'm interested in cinematic mode, but as you mention it only shoots in 1080p which I pretty much hate. :) Haven't tried it yet but wondering how cinematic mode from this, 1080p upscaled to 4K would look. Any thoughts on that? Thanks. Was planning on maybe upgrading to iPhone 15 Pro Max eventually.

I do use my iPhone 14 pro max cinematic mode to shoot my comedy videos..
But it's not a game changer from the iPhone 13 pro max
The 1080p to 4k is a big difference. But maybe not noticeable on the phone screen but it is on a bigger monitor

Should I record in pro res ? It’s a problem for me because my I phone has only 128 GB and I can’t record in Pro res.
I will work in post production on daVinci Resolve but if I will record in HEVC ( H.256 ) how many quality I will lost ? there are a lot difference ? I can do a good work if I shooting in HEVC ( H.256 ) ?
great video. What is final cut? is it a editing app for your phone?
Final Cut is only desktop editor. the closest thing for iPhone is iMovie or LumaFusion
What do you keep your exposure at? Also, did you colorgrade this video at all? if so, can you do a video on your process?
You can set exposure like you would a normal video. I usually set it around -1.0 as for colour that’s just how it looks out of camera

Hi, I have to film a short movie, do you think I’ll be able to do it properly just with using the cinematic mode? I’m using FilmicPro now because you can set all the ISO etc., but I’m having lots of problems with the sound and the focus, so I’d like to use just the cinematic mode but I don’t understand if you can set everything like in FilmicPro…
I see those artifacts on the blue sky while using the cinematic mode. Like color transition is not so smooth. Is that the cinematic mode issue or video compression on RUclips ?
Probably the fact that it’s a tiny sensor with low bitrate and massive amounts of processing going on. Then RUclips compression on top of it.

I do not. I have no recommendations. It would be annoying to have to carry around an ND for phone video. I know some people use the clip on one. I’m sure there’s a lot on Amazon

Tanks for the video. Did you use a variable ND filter on iphone? Exposure slide on iPhone , in cinematic mode, let you apply 180’ rule? (I have an old iPhone)
No ND. There’s no point unless you are using an app that lets you manually control all settings. I’m the normal iPhone app you have no idea what iso or shutter the phone is doing so ND doesn’t really help the situation

Hi. How do you download the videos from your iphone to your computer, especially the ones in cinematic mode? I download normally by cable and when I open the video on my computer it looks very ugly,,no natural colors and no blur.
Is there a special way to download the clips filmed with iphone on the computer?

@@juliasavory You need to disable hdr. If it is enabled, the colours on the export are lost. If you have apple osx and use final cut then it works with hdr enabled. On windows it does not work.

how big are the files is it easy to transfer to RUclips?
I hate that they didnt upgrade the tele lens to more megapixels but this is tempting. Typical Apple needs something to upgrade on the next phone, so they didnt bother to upgrade the tele camera on this, frustrating. Might get a Pixel Pro 7 instead.

everything is super cool in this phone. But I hate the notch in this phone, just kill the beauty of the display.
With taxes and everything a 512 gb 6.1” pro would be 2k$ usd. That’s quite a tuff sell for a dedicated content creation device. But compared to buying a 1.2k usd base spec iPhone 14 is seems like a no brainier to spend 0.8k usd additionally for a competent and convenient tool that could last for 5 years.
