When making friends is paramount in the lives of young people -- to give them a sense of belonging to a group -- I think it's crucial they understand that, after all is said and done, "we are who we are with," and "birds of a feather flock together" and all the rest. Choosing good friends is the beginning of creating a healthy social environment away from familial roots. A good friend never steers us down the wrong path.
