    Get a front decat pipe, you'll notice quite a big difference in noise and power. And just put new plugs in and gap them misfire should be solved.

    • @Klutchylol
      @Klutchylol 6 лет назад +2

      I'm from Australia. All we have are JDM Supra's. You will not see anywhere near 20psi with just an exhaust.

    • @Klutchylol
      @Klutchylol 6 лет назад +1

      Okay so a full aftermarket exhaust system is not an exhaust. Gotcha.
      Honestly you're lucky to see 18psi on a cold day if it just so happens to spike. You wont see over 20. Ever.

      It's stock, the only reason for overboosting will be because there is no restrictor ring in the exhuast now...Just depends if it was doing it before changing the exhaust, if not, then the exhaust is the reason...if it was, then it's coil packs and connectors, as mine did the same thing

      Would the liquid coming from the exhaust at 4:34 on to the floor be part of that. I was assuming it was fuel but idk. Dirt bikes is my thing rn not cars 😂

    • @twistymcslide2
      @twistymcslide2 6 лет назад

      im not sure , could be water, or excess fuel , id bet water. water coming out the muffler isnt a bad thing. its just condensation , here's what i found quickly in a search " When internal combustion engines run, the air and fuel combustion that takes place inside the cylinders releases moisture from the air, which generally gets sent out the exhaust system as water vapor or steam. If the engine and exhaust system are cold, moisture can condense from the steam to form a liquid that may drip out of the tailpipe " . . and dirtbikes are awesome, itll be a great learning experience, just stay open minded and wanting to learn , and youll make moves, bud. have fun with it.

    Just note on the JDM Supras in particular with the ceramic turbos, taking the cats out can make the turbos hit very high boost levels as they have less restriction now and the light ceramic turbos can spin up very quickly and easily so there's that to keep in mind (I think boost cut is 15psi?). It could be the break up issue you're talking about. If you haven't already check your plugs and coils. While you're there see if there is any oil between the camshaft covers as they're common to leak there. Hope this helps

    • @Driftmonkey
      @Driftmonkey 6 лет назад

      Wont be boost cut otherwise it'd stop revving, sounds like the coilpacks are old and brittle leaking spark, wouldnt be surprised after picking up a few "free" psi with the exhaust on it now

    • @silviodevito9526
      @silviodevito9526 6 лет назад +1

      ghettodriftmonkey1 it's still a possibility. Had a friend with a 1JZ soarer have the exact same issue and it was because he was just reaching boost cut. Fuel cut defender fixed the issue. With that said I think the ignition system could use a look over. Like I said, leaking cam cover gasket could have failed and is leaking into the spark plug wells causing the spark to travel elsewhere instead of the plug. Could even be bad fuel for all I know

    • @joshuabrown3351
      @joshuabrown3351 6 лет назад

      ghettodriftmonkey1, boost cut wont stop the car or throttle it will just make it splutter or limp until it goes back down to 10 psi then can still give it full throttle. Reason for breaking up but still under throttle

    • @PzVox
      @PzVox 6 лет назад +1

      Horrible idea to take both cats off on the jdm ceramic turbos, when I was stock tt I just removed the first so no overboost, I’ll laugh if he overboosts and blows the turbos up.

    • @Klutchylol
      @Klutchylol 6 лет назад +1

      Boost cut is brutal - Its like hitting a wall. Its not boost cut. And you'll only reach 14-15psi after you replace the dumps, a full exhaust(minus dumps) wont hit boost cut.

    For the breaking up, definitely get the tune checked. JDM cars are tuned for JDM gas, which is different octane (83 iirc). With the car now on American gas/octane, its throwing the tune off. You need a retune for our gas. Car sound soooo good.

  • @rod1326

    Make sure it has the right plugs, gap the plugs. Check the pack connectors as they break causing dodgy connections. Failing that replace the packs.
    If you get the downpipe/elbow cat replaced make sure you get a restrictor ring on the standard turbo setup as it will over boost and kick fuel cut in.

  • @shoof1696
    @shoof1696 6 лет назад +3

    jdm 2j comes with smaller injectors compare to the us version per gentleman's agagreement. swap it out with the us injectors or just bigger injectors

  • @jakecousins
    @jakecousins 6 лет назад

    When changing that front cat remember your 1.0bar restrictor ring. You could even potentially e over boosting now. Don't push those turbos above 1.2bar.
    As for it breaking up new oem coil packs and coil pack clips will probably be needed the oem ones are starting to fail now.
    Or if it's over boosting you will need a fcd, that could be another cause

    Toyota have a boost cut with aftermarket supports on factory ecu so if you are running more boost that the map sensor can take something around 14psi it will cut the fuel so it wont overboost. Check the boost gauge when flooring it and see if it hits boost spike. If not get new spark plugs and gap them to suit, if its fuel cut get a hks or turbosmart fuel cut defender

    When you add a full downpipe on a stock twins supra it will cause it to boost creep and over boost over target, then possibly hit boost cut. Once you do a complete turbo back exhaust it will need a retune to compensate for this.

    Could be fuel, could be spark plugs, 02 sensor, the tune or a combo. Adding the down pipe frees up exhaust and picks up more boost so that could also be it. Drop your spark plugs colder, check the fuel pump and the grounds, then the 02 sensors. If it's none of the above then get with your tuner

    From experience with my supra doing the same thing look for hairline cracks on coilpacks. Common issue with supras from heat soaked engine bays, be careful with the coilpack plugs though as they’re really brittle and break easily. Also be careful with decat on the down pipe as you will cause overboosting/boost cut issues due to not enough back pressure on the ceramic turbos. Plenty of jdm turbos blown from the exact same setup you’re thinking of doing.

    What I really dislike about HKS exhausts is that they charge the premium prices like any other japanese tuning companies, but most of their down pipes, midpipes, and even catbacks are painted heavy mild steel. They are almost guaranteed to rust after a few years of use, especially if you scrape them or live in area with a lot of rain/snow.

      Many of the HKS products made in recent years are actually made in China and painted and packaged in Japan, so they could slap a sticker that says "Made in Japan" on it. Also, HKS welds are not as nice even the Japanese made ones. The reason why HKS uses mild steel and then painted is to hide their bad looking welds. I have had S13, S14, and a 370Z. I have owned HKS and installed them on other people's cars and they are overpriced for what you get.

  • @MrRoobyZ
    @MrRoobyZ 6 лет назад

    If you said it was tuned, it could be over boosting from the straight pipe. Usually when you run a catless downpipe you need to put a restrictor in with a boost controller other wise you hit like 25 psi. And fuel cut is at like 18 with the twins. Probably isn’t the problem and it’s something like a pump or plugs, but when you go catless, you’re going to 100% have an overboost.

    The stock twins really limit noise on stock Supras. It’ll definitely be decently loud when you finish off the exhaust with the downpipe, but single turbo Supras have a distinctively different sound than BPU(stock twin) Supras. BPU cars definitely have more of a “growl” like you say.(previous MKIV owner here) Also, the HKS Carbon Ti isn’t really known as a very loud exhaust. If you want more loud but still an amazing growl, pick up a Blitz Nur Spec R.

    My r33 use to break up when I first got it a lot of the time it's due to the stock coil packs either getting heatsoaked due to location being in between the motor I would suggest going to ls coil pack setup, or you can try coating them in liquid electric tape sometimes can help with heat soaking another thing is the fuel that comes in the cars from Japan is usually a way higher octane rating then what we get can take awhile of cycling fuel through the system my car ran like that for about a month of driving then I tried the electric tape didn't change anything but just daily driving the car seemed to get better over time then cleared up completely

    You might be running a leaner air to fuel ratio since the car is breathing better with the stock pump and tune. Lean just means more air than fuel. New pump and a tune should be fine. If that doesn’t work, definitely swap the plugs. Loving the car!!!

  • @SolitudeMG
    @SolitudeMG 6 лет назад +1

    Former MKIV Supra owner here. You are probably hitting a boost cut now that you got rid of the 2nd cat. You need a device to cancel boost cut. HKS and Greddy both make it. You will need it especially when you get rid of the primary cat.
    You really need to do some reading on BPU mods for Supra. It seems like you don't know what you are doing with your Supra. Go to MKIV.com and start reading before throwing money away on unnecessary parts. You could have easily gotten a full DP for way less than the price of HKS pipe you got.
    Basically, you just need full 3" DP + full 3" catback + boost controller to be at BPU. This should get you to around 400whp on USDM Supra. Probably a bit less in a JDM Supra due to limitation of JDM ceramic turbos. Add a front mount IC for better cooling. For FMIC, Greddy 3 row is the tested and proven choice. You can also add a fuel controller such as a SAFC for a simple yet effective setup as BPU cars tend to run rich without fuel adjustments.
    You can get the parts for your Supra from many different shops like MVP Motorsports, Titan, Powerhouse Racing, and SP Racing (to name a few). These shops specialize in Supras and they keep the parts in stock.
    For a single, if you want a nice street setup around 500whp, look into street torque turbo kit from Powerhouse Racing. You can run it on a stock fuel system + fuel dampener bypass and ECU + a piggyback fuel controller. You can keep the stock MAF as it is not really a restriction at this power level. It is a great, simple street setup that just works, and it's just about at the limit of what is enjoyable on the streets power wise and spools extremely quickly. If I were you, I would personally just skip all the BPU stuff and go for this turbo kit.

    Change Coil packs and coil pack plugs! THUMBS THIS UP SO TJ CAN SEE IT...HAVE done it on mine as I had the same issue, the packs and clips are getting old now, and break up

    I love how Dustin and teej both get involved with each other’s vlogs still. Hope that never changes. Supra sounds so good but those wheels are killing me 😂 excited for new ones and a bit more low

    Check the voltage on the pump. Make sure its reading correct. I would do plugs and change the fuel filter

    Sounds awesome! Really as good as you can get with factory twins. I think the breaking up is the ignition, NGK makes good spark plugs.

    The coil pack might be going. It could also be spark plug gaps. But from personal experience with Japanese engines (RB in specific) it's the coil pack.

    Yea i would check plugs, and just check the fuel system to be on the safe side. Love the mkiv. Hope to see more vids of it.

    Maybe this isn't the problem but If it has a factory ecu, Capacitors on the board can fail and leak which can cause the engine to miss. Sometimes can also throw the car into limp mode. Had this happen to a couple of my Supras. It Can be fixed pretty easily and capacitors are really cheap, as long as the fluid in them hasn't damaged the circuits on the ecu board.

    Would definitely try a set of plugs and a regap. I do know that most cars that come over from japan don’t like American fuel and usually need a tune. Watch HP logic. Jack talks about it as he is an importer and deals with it on a daily basis. Definitely loving the Supra content!

  • @jshealey3994
    @jshealey3994 6 лет назад

    Definitely plugs! I had the same thing happen when I was BPU and started up-ing the boost on the stock twins. Try a different step in plugs and or you can try a tighter gap clearance on your current plugs. I later upgraded to some NGK 2668 plugs...they may do you some justice. I know you keep chasing that 2J sound...you won't get the sound you are looking for on the OEM turbo manifold...that's why everyone goes single! Haha. Nice progress so far.

  • @howie3781
    @howie3781 6 лет назад

    You are going to be potentially running lean now. You need to add a restrictor in that mid pipe. You will overboost the turbos as they partially rely on back pressure. Also, jdm Supra’s use USDM NA Supra pumps and smaller injectors so you could be out of fuel.

  • @TheLaamaporo
    @TheLaamaporo 6 лет назад

    Common problem in Supras are the ignition coils. They're +20years old and have seen their best time. Most people swap them to brand new from Toyota. The stock ones are capable to around 1000rwhp so no need to "upgrade" to some aftermarket ones. The OEM ones from toyota are pretty expensive, but they're worth it.

  • @geddan78

    When u get the downpipe u need a restrictor in the downpipe because the turbo will over boost due to the internal weastegates

  • @julioestrada9213
    @julioestrada9213 6 лет назад

    Replace the spark plugs. When you increase the rpm and build up boost you create more pressure in the cylinders which create more resistance against the spark and if your spark plugs are not at 100% youll get a small miss at high rpms.

    Teej, watch out when you change the 1st cat. JDM supras will over boost unless you put a restrictor ring in there. In fact you may already be overboost and hitting fuel cut (might be why it stutters high up)

    I think if I where to build that supra I’d leave the body stock with some bronze and black rims and get the motor built and clean up the engine bay. So that the car looked mostly stock from the out side but under the hood would be a monster

  • @buddtwin2

    It’s not a fuel pump. If it’s stock I seriously doubt it. There a few thing could have aftermarket plugs that are not tapped correctly, possibly wires. Sounds like something spark wise. Also very common for a slight vacuum leak or maf leaning out. I would clean the maf, replace the plugs with factory and see what happens.

    Sounds like your plugs or spark leads, if that doesn’t work try changing out the fuel filter as most of the time you get abit of stuff in the tank and it goes straight to your filter

    good luck with the engine issue. my supra had similar problems up until i sold it and left japan. sadly the 2j isnt that loud of an engine, even true straight pipes aren't that bad compared to some cars buuuuut back fires are something that can get super loud.

    Yes i think it need a more powerful fuel pump, upgreaded the diameter of the lines too so the fuel is there for it to drink try to use as little as possible connectors that way it will not slow the fuel down a smooth passage is quicker to go down than a rough one lets be honest 👍

    I'd look at boost levels as exhaust mods can increase boost levels to the point you hit boost cut!

  • @OzManiac666666

    My car was breaking up when I went over 10psi when full boost is 25psi and it was the filter that goes on the bottom of the fuel pump had fallen off and was sitting in the bottom of the tank. Sometimes it can be such simple things so just start by checking the basics.
