    No one ever shows the maintenance, only the lovely bio falls or finished ponds. Thank you! I have the pressure filter and it’s such more work.

      Thank you very much, Cash. To be very honest with you, shooting and editing these videos take a lot of time away from family and friends. A simple thank you from a subscriber goes a very long way for me :)
      I'm working on a really great video right now highlighting a giraffe and zebra enclosure I was invited to work on this summer in Indiana. So far, the video is really great (some of my best editing yet), but like I said, it takes a lot to edit these things.

    • @ColumbiaWaterGardens
      @ColumbiaWaterGardens  3 года назад +1

      Barley extract is an often forgotten water treatment. The barley decomposes and produces a safe level of hydrogen peroxide, which is an excellent algaecide as it is an oxidizer.

    • @ColumbiaWaterGardens
      @ColumbiaWaterGardens  2 года назад +1

      Just get a cheap sump pump from your local hardware store. They aren't meant for continuous duty and will last a long time. 3500 gph is fine

    Great video with lots of useful information. Regarding photosynthetic bacteria, are there other pro series bacteria’s better suited for shaded ponds?

    • @ColumbiaWaterGardens
      @ColumbiaWaterGardens  3 года назад

      Sure are. The standard aquascape bacteria used in unison with SAB is fantastic for the average backyard ecosystem pond, meaning rocks on liner. Average shade, good plant growth.
      Aquascape also sells the automatic dosing system, which is in my opinion, the best product for backyard pond health out there.
      Check them out and let me know what you think 🤔

    Its Oct here in the midwest. Can I clean bio fall now or within this month? Can see that water in bio fall is nasty which FINALLY explains why Ive beef fighting with water to get it clear

    • @ColumbiaWaterGardens
      @ColumbiaWaterGardens  Год назад

      Hi there!
      In the Midwest there is a common practice the local pond professionals called "the fall shutdown". In a fall shutdown, it is common to net the pond, clean the biofalls or wetlands, and to remove the pump allowing the water to drain into the skimmer and into the pond to prevent pipe expansion due to freezing temperatures.
      Even here in the Southwest, we encourage our clients to have their biofalls cleaned prior to the winter. This removes the food sludge that feeds early spring floating algae. By removing the food, the algae can't thrive.
      Here, we recommend 4 filter cleanings per year. March, July, September, and November. In your area, I would suspect that the local professionals clean in April, July, and mid October due to the short growing seasons you have.
      I hope this explains in better detail the question you asked. If you have further questions, please call us at 888-713-7771.
      All the best,
      Carl Petite - Owner

      @@ColumbiaWaterGardens Thank you for your quick response. They do drain the biofalls and rinse the filter materials but this won't happen until Nov. Right now there is a considerable amount of string algae. Should I clean it now rather than waiting? Should I continue with Beneficial Bacteria for cold water even after the waterfall is turned off?

    • @ColumbiaWaterGardens
      @ColumbiaWaterGardens  2 года назад

      @arnold, I would advise you to run the auto doser on the return line, post UV. That way, the beneficial bacteria can still colonize the pond while the UV does its job.
      You will find that after time, you may not need the UV at all after the bacteria colony kicks in strongly.
