    I just purchased a 2018 Renegade Latitude, and will definitely be installing this kit. I just can't stomach installing an undermount hitch. This factory retro keeps the departure angle stock, and looks so much better. Great install! It looks more time consuming than difficult. Now I don't have to break in to a cold sweat just thinking about the install. LOL

    • @scotty2307
      @scotty2307 3 года назад

      @D D LOL. I actually purchased an under mount hitch from Renegade Ready. I received it, and attempted an install, and things were just not matching up. I called them to let them know what was going on, and they told me that I was installing it incorrectly, and that I should try again. I tried again, and they still told me that I was doing something wrong. I sent them photos, with a measuring tape in the frame, that showed that the hitch did not fit, and they still told me I was full of it. I finally called the actual manufacturer of the hitch, and got them to send me the engineering drawing of the relevant part of the hitch, and found that my hitch did not match the drawing, It was built wrong. I sent the drawings, and my measurements to Renegade Ready, and they agreed to RMA the hitch, but basically said that this is what happens when you cheap out, and don't buy their premium product. I had to wait until they received the old hitch, and received a return authorization from the manufacturer before they gave me credit for the faulty unit, and I purchased the OEM style hitch from them, mainly because they were the only source. It did fit perfectly, and though they tell you to be careful not to break the body panel fasteners, they do include enough new fasteners to replace all of the ones involved. It was a bit of a job, but got it installed, and looks great. The cutout pattern they provide was garbage though.
      The install took the better part of a day.
      It isn't too late for you to go the OEM way! LOL

    My first thought was he does this from a wheel chair, well done man! Second I always wondered why the tow bar was so different on the renegades. It’s because they utilized the crash bar. Very informative! Will help me a lot in my future install. Thanks

  • @blameitonben

    Question: I did the same kit, but didn't install the 4 pin wiring harness. How simple was that to wire together? I'm thinking of redoing it so my toaster jeep can tow our pop up trailer.

    • @karlr4481
      @karlr4481  4 года назад

      From what I recall the wiring part was pretty simple. The wiring and a module are tucked in that left panel with one of the fuse boxes.
      Running the wires to the place on the hitch might be more challenging with everything installed/mounted.
      If you don't use it a lot, you could hang a pigtail out the back hatch.

    What parts did you get for this project and what would you say was the overall cost? Just got quoted today’s for this install and the shop quoted me $2,100.00.

    • @karlr4481
      @karlr4481  4 года назад

      I bought the kit from Renegade Ready.
      www.renegadeready.com/Jeep-Renegade-Trailer-Hitch-Retrofit-Kit-by-Renegade-Ready_p_77.html
      I got the wiring kit with mine as well>
      So $700 or so at this point.
      Then there's the labor. It's definitely doable for DIY.
      Not sure what shop labor would be on it.
      I have tools and such, so my dollar cost was just the kit from Renegade Ready.
      Then there's the time involved and opportunity for mistakes.
      It all went well. Cutting in to the bumper fascia was frightening. It went well with the provided template.
      I used a screwdriver to help set the new part in to place in the bumper which caused some deformation.
      Don't do that.
      At second 7 in the video you can see 'bumps' along the top horizontal line.
      Good Luck!!

    • @karlr4481
      @karlr4481  5 лет назад

      It was a bit challenging. First cut was the toughest; commitment issues.
      After that, just a slow & deliberate process.
      When latching the insert to the bumper, don't use a screwdriver to help push the bumper over the latches. It made an imprint on the bumper. It's minor and not too noticable
      Hopefully that makes sense.
      Good luck!
