Love this! ❤ I’ve been trying to come up with a list for my sister so she can watch with my 10-year-old nephew. Lol. Some additional ones I’ve told her are: Ernest Scared Stupid Monster Squad Don’t Look Under the Bed The Midnight Hour Little Monsters Haunted Mansion The Curse of Bridge Hollow Casper … just to name a few. 😆 lol.
Nice recs Mandy! I'd add Lady in White, the IT miniseries, and if Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark is too intense, the Goosebumps movies with Jack Black are great for younger kids! And maybe add The Sixth Sense & Signs as well.
Not so much of a horror movie, but definitely an introduction to monsters is the wonderful, "Mad Monster Party". Rankin and Bass' foray into the Halloween holiday. Great list!
I watched so many horror movies as a little kid. I tried showing my 5 year old nephew the gate and he was freaked out, with that said the wolf man’s got nards! Is a great kids movie. Ernest scared stupid is another great movie for pre teens. Troll, house with William katt, the frightners, critters and army of darkness is all can think for now. Cheers
Gremlins was definitely a childhood favorite of mine along with Beetlejuice. Those two movies were really my gateway into horror as a kid. I would also suggest the classic Universal Monsters, and animated movies like Coraline and ParaNorman as a good introduction to horror for kids.
I remember watching some of these friendlier horro growing up in the 80. Gremlins and Poltergeist scared the crap out of me, and Gremlins is one of the reasons for the PG-13 rating. Great list!
Cobweb, the soup scene + Anthony Starr is a masterstroke !! Other great rides for kids, Fortress (the one with Rachel Ward), Silver Bullet, Invaders from Mars, Sleepy Hollow, Nightbooks, ...
Don't call CPS, but my 13 year old daughter is a big fan of Terrifier 2. We've made our kids watch everything from the Goosebumps movie to the original Carrie, Halloween, and Children of the Corn. Interestingly, our daughter was always less freaked out by the movies than our older son.
@@6AM_YT that’s awesome! I think it’s interesting what kids can and can’t handle. A lot of them know and like the horror icons like Ghostface, Pennywise, etc
@@mandysmorgueofhorror it's super funny. When my son would get scared from the horror movies my daughter would yell at him, "It's just a movie, Foster! It's not real!" She's two years younger than him. haha...
Eight Legged freaked... when you're scared of spiders is a bit tough, but yeah great still. I can't take zombies either (eating ppl), so I don't know if I could take as a kid. I saw Evil Dead at 13, and it made me hold a bible.
As an arachnophobe, I've always been too scared to watch Eight Legged Freaks 😅 Spider related horror is the one thing I can't do, but I do want to overcome my fear at some point!
I would also add The Haunted Mansion with Eddie Murphy which is good for a younger audience. And I would add Mostly Ghostly which is a Disney movie that is geared towards a young audience. I instantly thought of it when you mentioned young audiences.
The Gate traumatized me as a kid haha I would add the less scary Godzilla films like Godzilla's Revenge. It's about a boy who's being bullied and has fantasies about going to monster island and hanging out with Minilla/Minya. It's cute, and the whole movie is centered around bullying. Son of Godzilla would also work, but there is a giant spider in it called Kumonga who tries to eat people. I think kids could handle it haha The Rebirth of Mothra Trilogy. They're fun monster/adventure stories for kids. Nothing too scary or out there. Great practical monsters. They're cute while still having stakes. Little Monsters. Fred Savage goes to a freaky monster world, and he has to rescue his brother. It scared me as a kid. Them! the old school giant ant movie. I like monsters haha Gargoyles. The '70's TV horror movie. Shockingly good for a TV horror movie too Devil Dog: The Hound From Hell. Another '70s TV horror movie about a dog that terrorizes a suburban family. I watched it as a kid. I turned out fine. The Goosebumps TV show. The Haunted Mask episode is still great. Universal Monster Movies, and Mark of the Vampire. It's directed by Todd Browning who made Freaks and the original Dracula with Bella Lugosi. Very underrated horror movie.
📽 Abbott and Costello Meet Frankenstein {1948} The younger side might find this horror/comedy a lot of fun, perhaps a tributary for them towards the Universal classics.
Kids need to be thrown into the deep end like I was as a kid. Let them sink or swim with American Werewolf, or the original Salems Lot. Back in my day we walked up hill both ways in the snow to watch Texas Chainsaw.
Some of these movies I'd never show my kids haha! That basketball scene from Deadly Friend! And that mirror scene from Poltergeist is still pretty graphic🩸😵💫😂
This list is a guide for getting younger and/or newer audiences into the horror genre. What movies would you add?

Being a kid in the late 80s-early 90s was crazy. I vividly remember The Fly and Pumpkinhead and being scared shitless. I've loved horror since!
Great list! I would add Lady in white, paranorman, monster house and coraline.

Well done!
The Burbs is another good horror comedy. I watched it nonstop as a kid. I still watch it all the time. It's in my top 5 favorites
I grew up in the 70’s & 80’s , there was no limit to what scary movies we could watch. 😅I think I saw the exorcist when I was 9 or 10. 😳
@@desertpinevintage I saw The Exorcist way too young too 😂
I think Lost Boys and Buffy could be good on a list like this.
