If I had to take a shot in the dark, it's possible that Viper's got their soul crystals from Mamool Ja traveling to and from Eorzea and the Tural. As you mentioned in your video about them, Mamool Ja have traveled to Eorzea and back again before, as seen in The Wanderer's Palace (Hard). I want to put out one more old Square Enix game that had dual blade called a Swallow in CHRONO CROSS. Cross also came out within a year of FF9.
My reason for mentioning it is mainly that the main character, Serge, uses one. And Cross takes place in a tropical archipelago which is a bit on the nose for this expansion. Not to say that it will be the inspiration for Viper, but just to not doubt it’s possibility for influence.

IIRC dual blades like that also have the problem IRL in that it's much, much harder to align the edge with your target so you're more likely to slap someone with the flat of the blade rather than actually striking them properly. Not a problem is you have a magical omnidirectional blade like a lightsaber, not so much with real steel.

I think this job's name may draw on the concept we see in Chinese Kungfu styles, of which, there is the Animal Kungfu style of the Snake. The wording of the soul crystal being that of a "hunter" would indicate it is a STYLE of swordsmanship rather than a particular type of combat job. It is my speculation that there is more than one style of twinblade combat on Etherys. This would be better determined by the lore surrounding the job though, so I will leave it as mere speculation. But if the job was taught by the Mamool'jaa, there could be other styles specific to the clans within the New World. But again - speculation.

One thing I just recalled (as I haven't been too long restarting FFXIV) is that the concept of the pole arm is referenced in ARR when choosing Lancer/Dragoon as your starting job. As such: FFXIV devs could have given players the option of choosing Dragoon or Viper at level 30(?) and could have created a job quest storyline that could have given the history & lore of Viper. While I understand why they probably didn't take this route: it could have been an option.

I hope it is Green Mage, Druid, Geomancer or a Hybrid of them all! I'd love a shapeshifting job which is in in FFTA as Morpher, but I doubt it! I think the new Limited Job will be Beast Hunter! They may make it similar to Blue Mage with the Arena thing! We will also farm for certain Monsters out in the world! We may even have a Monster Logbook like the Blue Mage book! I'd love for our Islands to be able to be used for Beast Master Monster care, but I doubt that too!

The confusing thing to me is the official forums hating on it (but that seems to be the norm there). Also, shout out to Shad, pretty great channel. The main reason I didn't predict this one (yet - I figured it'd come EVENTUALLY) was I didn't think they'd ever do another "2 new DPS Jobs" expansion after the SB que fiasco (and NIN before it...). But here we are! : ) LOVE FF9 here!

You want my theory about soul crystals in general? My theory is that they're basically the same kind of tech as the constellation crystals we found in shadowbringers. I think the Allagans got knowledge about soul crystals from the ascians, and the ascians probably also had some involvement with the new world at some point in the history of the world, and just concentrated their efforts where we're familiar.
Or maybe soul crystals are way more recent there. BLU storyline already paints the picture that we'd be far from the first to visit.

We're dueling who I assume is the Autarch Gulool Ja Ja, and he too wields twin blades as his choice of weapon for the fight. Could the Autarch himself be trained in, or at least be aware of, the Viper Style? Or is his dual-wielding just a convenient mirror to him being blessed siblings?

I honestly am so happy with Vipers inclusion. I realized I wanted a class like it from your video in fact. However I thought it'd be fitting as our next tank class. Evasion tanking isn't in XIV and I understand why, but having the aesthetic of it would be cool. But Viper as a DPS fits perfectly.
I've seen a lot of theories on the casting job, but I personally have nothing in mind. So I'll just throw some of my ideas out for even further away future jobs. Geomancer I think will probably be our next healer provided they don't do something new. Related in a sense, I think of having the aesthetic of a mage being a tank, using spells to create barriers and fortify their body so they don't take damage would also be an interesting addition and relative fresh air to the current tanks aesthetic of being armored and/or bulky. My final idea, is another type of caster. I love Red Mage myself but I know for some it doesn't entirely capture the spell and sword aesthetic, so Rune Fencer I think would work well.

I think it's an understandable more combat-oriented variation on Zidane's thief, but the memory buff could mean a lot of things. Is it Aura like you said, or closer to Trance? Maybe it's a connection to FXII Judges instead, with Quickenings explicitly relying on energy accumulated multiple times the body's normal limits.
Still waiting to see how it works out with the lore. First hypothesis is that they were originally hunters as stated, but instead of dying out like the reapers, they shifted towards more arbiter and executioner roles, becoming the Judges. It became too ritual to really need full combat prowess, but their historical roots were still plenty effective.

I am definitely picking up Viper when early access comes out for Dawntrail. To me, Viper has big MH dual blades energy. While MH's dual blades don't combine together into a polearm, they do focus on a battle dance of sorts that shifts into "demon mode" when channeled that unleashed a flurry of hard hitting attacks. I wouldn't be surprised if Viper has poison dots that it must keep up, though from the revealed info we've gotten it may just be purely physical. I just hope that it has a ranged attack option and isn't like MNK who just sits in a corner trying not to cry when they can't be near a boss.

I'll definitely be picking up Viper soon--probably before I bring Ninja to cap. I haven't been particularly compelled by the Ninja's mechanics; it's the wrong mix of memorization and fiddly gameplay for me. Viper sounds like it might be my inroad to enjoying the "Dexterity melee" subrole--and who knows, if it's good enough, it might become my favorite melee job, since I don't really have one right now. (Reaper comes closest, but it's still pretty distant.)
Also: Are you sure that the Allagans never conquered the New World? It's been made abundantly clear that Xande was able to conquer everything except Meracydia during his natural lifetime. It would be a really shocking error for the game to treat Meracydia as the one and only thing that stopped his globe-spanning ambition when two whole other continents went completely untouched. It always seemed to me like the New World was more of an afterthought conquest--in that era, it was relatively undeveloped, and perhaps even uninhabited across large swathes, since the Third Calamity, Fire-aspected, brought about horrendous drought _after_ people had already engaged in witch hunts, religious pogroms, and outright genocide. It might have been used exclusively for farmland or resource extraction, or as a place for bored nobles and the idle rich to go hunting dangerous prey, which could potentially link up with the Viper class! We've also seen some pretty heavily technological teaser images, which look very Allagan, not Imperial, doubly so with the reveal of the Eliminator with all its gold and gems and such.
I would of course yield if you have a citation or the like that you can point me toward--I certainly don't have your expertise or breadth of reading (having never actually read the Encyclopedia Eorzea books.)

There is precedence due to the MCH and their relatively new to the world job that soul crystals can be made.
So it is not a stretch to say that the allagans did not have a monopoly to it.
And due to the Blue Mage job we already knew that there are soul crystals in the New World.
So whatever the story on that note is for Viper, it is not a stretch to say their soul crystals can be either new or old, and maybe they even have a way to make them over there.

I feel like if it's a traditional hunting job passed down in Tural, it's gotta be related to the Hrothgar, possibly Viis and a few other of the jungle tribes/races. It would make sense to be if the Viper job master or at least the one who introduces us to it, were to be a Female Hrothgar, or a Male Viera hailing from the continent of Tural. Many of the inspirations for Tural seem to be South American. And one of the popular names of a warrior elite group of hunters was the Jaguars. They're pretty interesting if you look them up, VERY brutal, but I can see how the name "Viper" could be chosen if they were looking to vicious predatory hunter animals in South America.
