one day a platform trolley fell into the pit at Princes Bridge, No. 3 steam crane (Polly) was dispatched to assist. A bookshop in Flinders Street that sold rail publications (Hylands) was instantly emptied to watch Polly’s progress over the Spencer Street Viaduct.
I like this video. The marvelous old Melbourne I remember. I traveled through Glenhuntly & Oakleigh on the train last year, and felt like I was on a roller coaster. Ugly.
In the ‘70s the VR wanted to close one of the station Collingwood or Victoria Park or maybe one of the Richmond stations? There was a big outcry and it didn’t happen. In those days the VR would throw out an idea and if nothing happened they would carry it out, for example tiny stations Ruby and Bena near Korumburra were suggested for closure and nobody said anything and it happened.
At Princes Bridge (in steam days) there was a traverser so a loco can go to the other track to run around the train. I saw a photo where a loco fell into the traverser pit because the traverser was on the wrong side. Facepalm

@@Jorad66 things have changed a bit along the Frankston and Dandenong lines 🤔🤔👍
I was hoping the Victoria Park sidings would be expanded to store more trains
@@Magpie_Mark92 I don't imagine that they will be expanded at all. 🤔👍
