When The Modesty Police Come Calling - TACO Tuesday

One of the most offputting weird bits of toxic theology out there is when men decide to tell women what to do with their bodies. Particularly when it comes to what we supposedly tempt them with. Today we'll talk about Lori Alexander's dress on Sunday and the reaction of many around her at church, Jill Rodrigues modesty that isn't actual real modesty and a host of other things including determining how much or little you will share with the world of your body. It's your body so only you should get a choice over clothing!

I support modesty. My problem is that these groups think there is only one form of "modesty". I like how you say "layers of modesty". You can see these evangelical TV preacher wives with tons of makeup and gawdy jewelry, bragging about their extravagant lifestyle. Anything that draws an inordinate amount of attention is not modest. It can be flamboyant or it can be "overly" covered in plain clothes {that draws attention, also}.
You are exactly right about modesty being heart attitude. Modesty comes from within, not your outward appearance. In addition, if one relied on outward appearance as your guide, that would eventually fail. Customs change. Back in biblical days, showing your ankle was immodest. Today, we find that hilarious.
Oh, and I never thought I would say this to you, but Suzanne, I like your new knickers. lol

Modesty is so many different things. While I support the decision to wear anything not illegal that does not mean I want to wear it. That's what those knickers were about. Having shrinking rayon dresses has been ridiculous.

The modesty issue, in my opinion, is just crazy. It takes away from truly serving God and loving God. It takes the focus off HIM. Isn’t the point of belonging to a church is serving the Lord and worshipping God? Because obsessing over clothes and modesty takes away from that. That’s just me though. I went to an evangelical Pentecostal church long ago and that didn’t make sense to me. Maybe I think too literally.

wearing long sleeve dresses in summer isn't uncommon in some religious denominations including Catholic Amish Menonite etc. though you can change into something lighter for the Reception after the wedding. I choose to dress modestly due to my body type not for religious reasons as I became a born again Christian age 12 turn 40 5th March 2025. due to having a large bust I have to wear a crew neck T shirt under a V neck blouse so men don't take a sneaky peek at my breasts or try to fondle me from behind to cop a feel and that's been the case since I was a tween due to having a C cup chest at age 9 family history of large breasts my mum was a D cup most of her life at 5 Ft 2.5 in now due to age related height loss and prior back surgeries mum is 4 Ft 11.8 in as she's in her early 60s now while dad is 5 Ft 8.75 in now at 65 or Beatles legend Ringo Starr is 5 Ft 2.1 in at 84 years old this Sunday July 7th same height as Jessica Simpson is in her mid 40s 5 Ft 2.5 in and 126 LBs while her preteen daughter Maxwell is several inches taller due to her taking after her father Eric Johnson a former NFL tight end who is 6 Ft 2 in age 45
