Thanks man. Your perspective on cost is dead-on. When thinking about getting a full kit together, spending a grand on coms is a hard pill to swallow, especially considering for less than 100 bucks I can get a functional setup. It's nice to see your perspective is grounded with your viewers. Alot of guys don't give a damn and dump all their cash into their kit, and it's just not practical for everyone. Love from Texas.
As a long time airsoft player, i can confirm the earpiece with cheap earmor active ear pro over the top works perfectly. I use a slick tube earpiece and PTT and have no complaints.
If you don't have the coin for peltors, some of the imitation ones are pretty decent, and they're cheap enough you can get a spare for if they do wear out on you. Another budget friendly option is the bowman headset. He mentioned which goes on one ear
You can convert comtac V defenders into a comms capable setup with a MT33-05R Boom Microphone, FL6AF Left Side Boom Harness NATO Wired Cable and a PTT but it'll cost you about the same as the ready to go out of the box. Does let you remove your cables and mic though and allows you to purchase in parts. Just all comes down to what you want to do.
Like all with exception of ptt position being so high, as the headset plug tends to poke me in the face. Kudos for highlighting amp vs non amp version, and thanks for putting a realistic cost estimate on comms. Thanks for the good share. I look forward to the upcoming Manpack video; please discuss repeater options, if able. For example, vest mounted baofeng with detachable Manpack for extended remote local ops.
Flip the radio around in the pouch so the screen is against your body. It will protect your screen and if you’re training at night your screen light is covered.
If this would have been out 2 years ago you would have saved me multiple thousands of dollars….oh well…I guess being “stuck” with Motorola DMR’s isn’t the end of the world but the gear was hideously expensive….but shooting n talking n hearing is real skookum magic!!!

Great video, and I appreciate all the info. I do have one question, and that is what kind of ranges can we reasonably expect from each of these various antennas? I really like the stubby, but concerned about the range.
Dumb question. You recommended the guys from Radio Made Easy a few years back and they offered a service to program radios. Unfortunately they have since stopped offering that as an option on their website. Do you know of anyone else that can program and set up baofeng radios?
I tried running my folding abree antenna to my back with a cable. There was a 90⁰ bend in the cable ( custom prof. made cable) i think that messes with signal. Couldn't receive noaa even. Tried a couple kinds.
Excited to be back. I tried asking yesterday, but the overlords wouldn’t let me send my post. Will there be a kit of the upgrade options for the three radio kit? I just want to buy the upgraded components without rebuilding them individually .
Yes, but they would run into the same legality aspects as in the USA when it comes to transmitting on specific frequencies. I believe the UK has the PMR446 frequencies that do not require a license to transmit on.
@@_RadioMadeEasy I though of a question today: My local PD went "fully encrypted" according to Radio Reference and my Baofeng went silent. Are there any radios available to hear what's going on?
What are you talking about.. it's not just about the end of the world all this came around because he noticed how handy coms were during the threat of a wild fire that threatened his property recently.. and it's better to have it and not need it rather than needing it and not having it.. plus he has a big family why would he be alone if Armageddon doesn't happen.. strange comment
I love your content. Comms are very important. But in general you’ve made yourself so visible on YT that you are basically LARPing. Bad guys in a SHTF scenario with a little bit of organization would overrun you and take your stuff at the very least. God forbid.

In my opinion, the weakest link here is that SMA to BNC adapter. Fragile. Buy several; when it breaks, you have no antenna.
We use very high quality adapters, this has not been an issue.
Perfectly design for maximum cost to defence
Great video, and I appreciate all the info. I do have one question, and that is what kind of ranges can we reasonably expect from each of these various antennas? I really like the stubby, but concerned about the range.
I know the radio's range is terrain dependant byt what is an approximate range one could expect??

Very informative. Why use Kenwood connector? it is the weak link.
Almost every vhf/uhf radio uses the kenwood connector.

Hey Evan, do you use locktite on the bnc adapters on the actual radio?
No, but they do now include a rubber gasket that adds some friction and a bit more water resistance.
imo the exoskeletons are like putting lipstick on a pig. Defeats most of the purpose of a baofeng. Good video

Would the radios from Radio made easy be compatible in the UK?
Yes, but they would run into the same legality aspects as in the USA when it comes to transmitting on specific frequencies. I believe the UK has the PMR446 frequencies that do not require a license to transmit on.
