Of all people, let alone anyone in Hololive, I didn't know Okayu was into Godzilla! And choosing Shin Godzilla as the screening was brilliant, that film is a masterpiece among the modern Godzilla films!
For some reason Okayu liking kaiju stuff, specifically Godzilla, seems really fitting to me. It's not something I'd have been able to predict or guess but hearing that she likes it is _totally_ in character for her in my opinion.
Really love the scene where yaguchi assembles his team. "Okay guys conventional bureaucracy has failed, and they're desperate enough to call the crazies."
The crazies outcasts being the heroes is a theme in movies, but also in real life. Small, ostracized groups are pushed out cos they "don't fit in", even though they can offer so much to humanity.
I will never get over how much I love Shin Godzilla. everything about it is so good. from the directors deeper stabs at the poorly run Japanese government to the surface level feeling of "holy shit this version of Godzilla is so fucking cool!"
Gunbuster's still Anno's best work imho, from a directorial perspective at least. In fact, I think it still has one of the greatest endings of all time.

I love how this entire movie just felt like an Evangelion episode, which might be because of how much like an old-school Godzilla film Evangelion felt like at times. Anno was the best choice imo to bring on this new type of Godzilla.
fun fact: hideaki anno (author of evangelion) directed it....and he got his friend shirou sagisu (evangelion music composer) on boat....shin godzilla was, to my belief, “anno’s final evangelion shitposting”
I've re-watched this movie 4 times now and it's still an incredible experience everytime. The best Godzilla movie ever since Vs. Destoroyah, and easily the 2nd best overall since "Gojira".

This version of Godzilla is one of the most terrifying... The power is never-ending and would've taken over the world had it wasn't frozen in nitrogen. This version is also the most tragic cause of each metamorphosis it goes through... Not surprising, given the director also directed Neon Genesis Evangelion.

The scene where Shin godzilla first used it's atomic breath is probably the most Anno thing in this movie. A contrast of a beautiful and somber song accompanied by the damage caused by godzilla as the city is burning. 👌
I love that the helicopters kept their distance and worked their way up through their weapons. I think that's the first time in movie history a gunship has been used correctly! wow! Kinda feel like watching the movie now.
A felt that when she said she was on the verge of tears in the cinema, not because I was too, but I was definitely gripping the arm rests. Only a handful of films have had that effect on me in the cinema/theatre. District 9 comes to mind, which I also saw on release
5:04 I'd say that "awesome" is a fitting word for that. In its original meaning, that is exactly what awesome meant: fearsome, awe-inspiring, invoking a sense of genuine *awe* which can include both wonder and dread. The Japanese word "sugoi" kind of works in the same way, both in its original meaning and in the more casual meaning it has taken on.
I really wish they'd relaunch the rest of the written plot on big screen. I fully believe it would go full curcle for Shin Gojira and would give incredible existential depth.
I love how they reused sound effects and music from the old Godzilla films from the 1960s. I believe some of the music is from the original 1954 movie. I'd expect nothing less from Anno Hideaki.
