wow... just wow. the Books is quite possibly my favorite band of all time. I've poured so many hours into their discography and have put so much personal emotional connection to their music. Thank you so much for this video. It exemplifies my feelings so well!
Haha basically exactly what I was going to say. Easily in the top 5 most personally important bands in my life. So nice to see them getting appreciation.
@@Norsilca glad to know that other people out there have the same connection with their music as I do. I feel like their discography is my bible -- so much of who I am and what I value was discovered through listening to their music
I am so glad to hear people connecting so deeply with Nick Zammuto's creations. In so many ways, his music struck me as perfect and delightful upon hearing it for the first time around 2006, and they still move me anytime they're playing. I am no expert on modern indie music, but it seems like The Books predicted many styles and moods coming along the way. I was very fortunate to see The Books play live twice and Nick Zammuto play twice post-Books. Each time I was able to see Nick at the merch table or hanging around post-show and I was always pretty much star struck :-) Kind of embarrassing, but there it is. It was easier to chat with his brother Mikey and then just absorb whatever Nick wanted to speak about in general conversations.
Its so rare for a musical group to transend genre all together, let alone be so profound they cause you to look at the world differently. Their albums changed my life and sparked a connection with the world I never knew I had.
Thank you for making this. I got to see this band # different times, and Zammuto twice. Nick helped me jump my car at one of the shows. They were so nice and I loved their music. I even own a spoon box, for God's sake. I miss them. I wish I knew what they were up to. I know Nick's kid got the same cancer he had, then he dropped off. not sure what happened.
What a beautiful piece! I listened to The Lemon of Pink for the first time last night- an incredible experience! You touched on so many of the emotions that album brought out of me in this video, great job.
yes. Exactly. yes. thank you for this video, you were able to put my thoughts into words so eloquently. Smells Like Content quite literally changed my life. It came to me in a time of complete despair and heartbreak and helped me to remember the absurdity of it all in such a beautiful way. Bravo @art is everthing
Don't know if this channel is still active but I have found a lot of Books samples and each one I end up finding makes me appreciate them even more because they are such tiny bits of really obscure things. I really wish there were more artists that had this kind of style, only album I could think of that could satiate that thirst was Paul's 2018 solo album but even then it was only a few tracks. Amazing video btw.
I appreciate your appreciation. Very thoughtfully thought and compiled. I own a Nick Zammutto “Spoonbox” original art, so I can have a little bit of The Books in my home every day b
thank you for this - still relevant in 2023! when i was in high school my friend burnt me a copy of The Lemon of Pink (sorry!) and The Books have been in my top 3 (if not #1) ever since. it wasn't until doing my honours year of Bachelor of Music at melbourne that i actually have gone back to research The Books outside of simply listening to them - back in 2003, and even when they split in 2012, the internet was a very different place. super glad to find this essay. thank you!
Very well done production-wise and spot on. The Books are special beyond special. I've seen Zammuto and briefly spoken to him ... the music makes me feel as if I have a real connection to him, but you're right that the real connection is to all humanity. In general, it's difficult to "take time" to tune out the world in order to feel the world, but that's what The Books give us.
Hepyrian Yeah I think that's why I really appreciate hearing someone explain why they do deserve more attention, themselves! Besides that, the video is just really well-made and accessible!
your motion graphics are masterful! can tell a lot of effort went in to making the video beautiful, the bit with the thought for food bubbles especially
Wow man. Your editing, narrating and writing is improving so much. Another fantastic video. Take your time to make them if they keep being this amazing.
great video. i discovered the books by chance about a year ago and they’re still one of my favourite bands of all time. one of the only bands where i thoroughly enjoyed every album they put out, and one of the only bands i still like just as much as the day i discovered them. but this video just added another depths that makes me appreciate them even more. they’re one of those bands that you just want the world to know about but hardly anyone does.
I made this video a long time ago.. so I'm trying to remember exactly where I found them. I think a combination of like genius sites, interviews, and pitchfork's reporting? It's all kinda hazy now and when I made this video I was young and did not keep good track of bibliographies haha
This was amazing. Summed them up perfectly in my opinion

Jack Wiegmann me too man, appreciate the comment

good crowd here. one of the bestest bands of all time .
10/10 got emotional watching a video essay about my favorite duo
About time someone did a video essay on The Books. This is excellent.
Liance thanks! I thought so too
Thank you so much for taking the time to make this. Just found it in 2024, but I loved The Books back in college. Perfect. You nailed it.
Incredibly underrated band and video right here. Love the books and this analysis. Really feel the love of the art here.
Thank you, I appreciate it!
it just bugs me that not enough people are listing to this amazing band
Its so rare for a musical group to transend genre all together, let alone be so profound they cause you to look at the world differently. Their albums changed my life and sparked a connection with the world I never knew I had.
motherless bastard is my fav books song, the dad was clearly joking around with his daughter then you get, and awesome song to enjoy a moment.
just as the books was ahead of its time and remains underappreciated now, so is this channel and video :/
this deserves 1000000000000000000 views

I love the books!!!! Thanks for doing this, it was so up my alley 🩵🌠

So, so, so good! Amazing video, The Books definitely need more appreciation.
I think so too! They are an all time favorite of mine.

a year late, but do you have any other music recommendations ?
I shall now perceive The Books.
Very well done production-wise and spot on. The Books are special beyond special. Just came across this. Great video man, thanks for making it :)
This seriously needs more attention. Great, great work.
flimsybrendan thanks! It's been hard for me to share this one around because there isn't like a Books subreddit or anything.
Hepyrian Yeah I think that's why I really appreciate hearing someone explain why they do deserve more attention, themselves! Besides that, the video is just really well-made and accessible!

I really can't forget their music all these years. Glad that I bought their album "the lemon of pink".
This video is incredible man, they are special but everyone should hear them and have access to this!
This is great. "Lemon of Pink" is my all-time favorite album. How did you find the samples!?
I made this video a long time ago.. so I'm trying to remember exactly where I found them. I think a combination of like genius sites, interviews, and pitchfork's reporting? It's all kinda hazy now and when I made this video I was young and did not keep good track of bibliographies haha
The Books really predicted meme culture.
So so good.
Jeff Kardesch

Yes dude! Thanks for this! Awesome work.
Fuck yes, I love The Books.
Cannot be adequately ranked or compared to any other artist because they invented a new form of art

Wow, I love this.
he done it again
tgway thank you!
Oh shit he put a madvillainy song in the beginning of the video !
Oh, the books, the book (Alan Watts), and the last statement Nick made was very Alan Watts-esque. Interesting.
Great vid
Where even did you find this footage of zammuto doing audio experiments???
I found the way out!
Yoooo the animation and interpretation of the Lost and Safe album cover was so good. Solid solid video, lemme check out your newest

old pitchfork was the best pitchfork
Idk, newer writers are great too, and not as mean for the sake of being mean as it could be back in the day.
