you all probably dont give a shit but does someone know of a tool to log back into an instagram account? I stupidly lost my account password. I love any tips you can offer me
@Pedro Nikolas thanks for your reply. I got to the site through google and Im waiting for the hacking stuff atm. Takes quite some time so I will get back to you later with my results.
So what do you do if your mic (all of a sudden) starts making loud static noise in your recordings? I have a Blue Yeti, and it wasn't doing this before, and it doesn't always do this.
dude! as an aspiring audio engineer and producer this video helps me understand the little things which are looked over more often than not. thank you!
I love these segments already because they're entertaining and informative but that hilarious face that popped up when Linus said "go both ways" is what really keeps me coming back for more. Editor, you're a genius. Keep it up!
It's nice t know a little bit about stuffs we use or see someone else using it frequently. I'm the kind of person who like to know how everything works...
There are also Carbon, Crystal, Laser, Electret and Ribbon mics, Ribbons are getting more popular with artist vocals now-a-days and Laser mics are used for spying on people. Another thing they didn't mention is shotgun polarity, or super cardioid mics. Shotgun mics are more prevalent with film and since they are extremely directional and don't usually pick up anything on the sides.
Elemino MusgroveChopped & Screwed refers to a style of hip hop where they remix songs by slowing the music down. . . (referencing the intro with the slowed down deep voice)
There's one other type not mentioned here which is a subset of dynamic mics - ribbon mics. You don't see them pretty much ever outside of music recording, but they have a very novel design - thin pieces of aluminum foil (on the order of 1-5 microns thick) move in a magnetic field and generate a current. They sound really cool, but they're insanely fragile and they are very low output meaning they fell out of favor unless you want their tonal qualities.
Dont forget also Ribbon mics- they are different too, plus hyper-cardiod and stereo patterns. Plus inverting a bass speaker to become a 30-60Htz mic for low tones produced by a bass drum or bass amp. And like Linus said other equipment is important too, like a mixing desk (not DJ Decks) with Analogue, Digital and Powered types, make sure when using condensers that are wired with a desk that 48V 'Phantom Power is on if that desk has it built in most big manufactures do automatically, with digital desks being able to control channel phantom power rather than just all the channels, on or off. and having it on while using dynamic mics as well will not make a difference. comment below this post to learn more...
I think it would be more accurate to divide the microphone classes into either Dynamic or Static. Cause the way you described it in the beginning was like saying there are either motorcycles or fords. One is a class and the other is a type of model in a group.
i made my own mic for pc. Had an old mp3 player from like 2003 that had recording, took it appart, unsoldered the mic, used some wire from a front panel power button and an old jack kabel took a piece of foam from old speakers to put on. Plugged the mic in and tadaaa, actually has good quality :P Better than some of my friends with "expensive" headsets. considering the mp3 player was at 20$ with 512mb ! lol Nice vid as always ;)
It's really not hard, you can even use an old speaker for a mic, though the bigger the speaker, the more dB loss. Using an old mic to make a new one isn't all that far-fetched so I don't know why you don't believe Team Propuls.
i think lynda should hire you. you could review products, make build guides and all of the funny stuff (as the pc wars and etc) on your channel, and instruct people with guides and etc in lynda
There are voice amplifying holes cut into bricks that are carved in the shape of an ear canal in the north of Bolivia at a site called Tiwanaku which dates back to 1500BC.
As an avid (ha, pun!) audio enthusiast, I appreciate this explanation and it makes me want to cheer and throw biscuits at you. approval biscuits. Patent pending
Hey Linus, great video. I've really liked your recent microphone videos. I'd be really interested in you doing more as I soon need to buy either a USB or an XLR and USB mixer setup for voice over and would love your input
The theatres themselves were acoustically sound and even employed varying size jars/pots for reasonating the soundwaves to amplify them even further (large ones were the subwoofers of ancient Greece. The masks themselves did little to nothing.
The description is a little messed up. At the time of commenting it says "Microphones are an extremely integral part of our day-to-day life, whether you use them for work, or But how do they work?", but I think it is meant to say "Microphones are an extremely integral part of our day-to-day life, whether you use them for work, or for (fun maybe idk what they wanted) But how do they work?" Just a heads up!
NonPlayableLink It's just you. He mentioned that mics transform sound waves into electrical signals via 1 of 2 ways. You can watch the video (again) for those 2 ways.
I hate being on the mic. Thank goodness I don't play WOW anymore and no longer raid and thus don't need a mic. I don't miss it. As for this video I think many need to focus less on the quality of the audio in terms of sound and start focusing on what they are saying or singing into the mic. Just sayin'. I didn't get much from the video but can appreciate Linus trying to teach. Way to go LMG with Tech Quickie.
i love the face that a "dynamic" mic is actually a speaker being used in kind of an inverse way. if you dont believe it go a watch linus' episode on speakers.
ilikecookies713 they probbably wanted a photo of a pro-gamer using a gaming headset..had nothing with CSGO to do but rather the competetive/pro gamer which could just as likely have been lol or SCII
I thought linus had reached puberty finally but I was mislead....
Nathan Blake lol puberty you oldies
***** My friend had my phone probably I don't remember writing that.
Well in hos new video he actually did
Linus with deep voice feels.....weird
+Lorenzo'sTechTips no way

Don't forget about RedBull, Cooler master, EIZO, Komplett, and other sponsors for csgo.
LikeABus - CoD still has a competitive scene?
First video I've ever seen that explained microphones in a way that I can understand
you all probably dont give a shit but does someone know of a tool to log back into an instagram account?

Can't believe he said "mushroom head" with a straight face!
I can't believe it's not butter!

aww man I really miss those old school smoke signal linus videos, you should make one again some time

Actually Lynda is great. I started using it and i like it. I wish they had a bit more advanced courses.

I showed my cousin that has never seen a Linus video before this and the first thing she said was "holy crap his voice is so high pitched" :')
Wow.. I just saw that Lynda.com was bought by linked.in!

I don't know why but Linus screaming "WITH LOUD NOISES!!!!" makes me giggle like a school child.
Linus screwed, but not chopped...

Thanks for crediting the real inventor of the phone, and not that invention-stealing, patent-abusing Graham Bell.
Don't forget the ribbon microphone those are amazing
Techquickie do lynda.com a favour. Talk about freelancing as fast as possible
Luke's face as fast as possible

Could you do a video on touch screens? Thanks.
Outstanding
00:47 Amphitheater at Kourium Beach, Cyprus. Wow.
Five Four club Linus?!? STYLING!!!!!
Great video, easy to understand
Mushroom head? Please, it's clearly a butt :D
What ways can you get the most out of your mic? More specifically condenser mics
... Shrinks and grows with stimulation ...
really Linus
0:29 FSX in background!
Now the theme song's stuck in my head😀

Hey Linus, great video. I've really liked your recent microphone videos. I'd be really interested in you doing more as I soon need to buy either a USB or an XLR and USB mixer setup for voice over and would love your input
Heads up JC, i'm picking up sonic transducer activity.
I am a sound man and a tech guy you did a great job explaining this subject
The theatres themselves were acoustically sound and even employed varying size jars/pots for reasonating the soundwaves to amplify them even further (large ones were the subwoofers of ancient Greece. The masks themselves did little to nothing.

...HE'S WEARING A WIRE! GET HIM!!!
im happy with my usb microphone, clear sound with no noise comming from the audio card :)
After watching this video iIm still wondering "or But how do they work?"
Description has a typo plz fix.
NonPlayableLink It's just you. He mentioned that mics transform sound waves into electrical signals via 1 of 2 ways. You can watch the video (again) for those 2 ways.
powerfight5 I understood the video perfectly, just read the description and then my original comment again.
How about mics that we use in studios? How are they called? Work principle?
Why waste 5 minutes, when I can explain it in one sentence? You speak into it, magic happens and people hear you.
Yes Linus. We are well into 2015. So much so that it’s 2020.
As it shrinks and grows with stimulation. Seriously, Linus, Seriously.
2:29 That's what she said
Next Topic: How did Data Recovery Software work?
Make as Fast as Possible about optical audio please.
Xizt is such a cutie ^_^
I listened to this on my microphones!
haha love the use of xist here :D
I hate being on the mic. Thank goodness I don't play WOW anymore and no longer raid and thus don't need a mic. I don't miss it.

Barber: What kinda cut u want?
Linus: Just fuck my shit up
how insightful "as it shrinks and grows with stimulation which gives them an advantage in terms of size and sensitivity" Sounds like a Trojan ad
WOWOW we learned about unidirectional or cardiod polar in graphs in precalculus class
such application, much math
Speaking of mics, I noticed a strange thing.
Mic Picks up sound from bass according to the sound meter, but when recorded all I get is static.
That's called distortion, move your mic away from the source, and consider what type of microphone your using.
The first mic, otherwise known as the Mr.Kennedy!
KENNEDY!!!
We need a metal song with Linus' scream.
Up next - Hardware acceleration as fast as possible!
DAMN YOU THUMBNAIL!
And damn my curiosity.
can you make a episode about difference between SLC,MLC and TLC plz
Microphones are amezing.
memory bit bus as fast as possible
mushroom head you say.. ah okay whatever... guess i rly have a dirty mind after all
i love the face that a "dynamic" mic is actually a speaker being used in kind of an inverse way. if you dont believe it go a watch linus' episode on speakers.
Muxing and demuxing video another audio techquickie
thankyou linuspedia
"microphones, they're better than smoke signals..."
I was amused at Linus's joke with the lack of audio in the beginning of the video - That is until I realized that youtube's audio was muted :/
4:20 but we are initiated, Linus.
mmmmm, shrinks and grows with stimulation
How rare are hybrid mics with both dynamic and condenser pickups that either capture both as two channels or combine them before output?
A Speakers AFAP would be great..
Now I know a little bit more about how my Blue Yeti Pro works... probably going to forget by tomorrow morning but interesting nonetheless!
Lenny!
Whoever edited this video must like csgo
matesc e. I mean , not that I really care but , who puts a random person in, someone must know there CSGO to find that man :) k bye
ilikecookies713 he could have just google'd pro players wearing headsets lol
ilikecookies713 they probbably wanted a photo of a pro-gamer using a gaming headset..had nothing with CSGO to do but rather the competetive/pro gamer which could just as likely have been lol or SCII
ilikecookies713 edzel is the editor. He plays CS:GO a lot.
Yeah i thought that :D
2:30 Shrinks and grows with stimulation. Just about lost it there lol
#linusexplainsfastandfuriously
What is name of the microphone you are wearing in the video?
I was on another tab with this in a playlist and thought it was Terry not Linus! I would like a mic app for my phone or PC.
Magnets? How do they work?
Also Linus your swag is incredible m8
xizt is so beautiful
