They demonstrated, under pressure and time constraints, that they could do an better job at story telling and world building than Bethesda could continue doing. No lie, 1 AND 2 are genuinely 2 of the greatest games ever made. The early development team experimenting with gamebryo home runned twice in a row, then bunted an easy bomb with 3 and BoS. After New Vegas essentially revived the series and made people want even more, of course that's the benchmark we look at now. I don't want my own personal opinion of FO4 to get in the way, but the story and lore building in 4 is OBJECTIVELY worse than any of the other games. The game itself is actually quite impressive. They did a good job technically speaking. They just suck at writing now. New Vegas isn't the apex. It just feels closer to the original games than any of the new ones do. I don't think FO3 was a bad game by any means, but compared to Vegas's story, the time it took them to complete it and then subsequently fix it with some very quick patching....yeah, Vegas wins. Sorry.

People say New Vegas is it's own thing. But it's heavenly connected to Fallout 2 and it feela like I'm right in Fallout 2. Man the developers did a awesome job keeping them connected. Like Marcus showing up. Cassadi's daughter. Some MASTER lore etc.

New vegas was so successful because it was the game tht had yhe fans of the OG games in mind, you have all these characters that took part in the event of Fallout 2 and a story that essentially is a part 2 of the Second game,

So for those of you who don't know the devs at obsidian studios (NV devs) where basically just holdovers from interplay (fallout 1-2) interplay had gone outta business and become obsidian studios later. In the interim Bethesda bought the IP off of interplay and made fo3 and while developing 4 Hired obsidian to make a game to hold people over in the meantime. This is why New Vegas feels truer to the original 2 games then what Bethesda made. Obsidian is what was formerly interplay the original creators. Bethesda studios are just interlopers in the wasteland. Thanks for coming to my ted talk.

Man, Fallout 2 was the best. Absolutely love that game to bits. It would be awesome if they remade the first 2 in 3D. Kinda like Halo trilogy remaster, where you could switch between old and new graphics. But having it so the player can switch from 3D, back to 2D. Hell, id even be happy with a remake that was still 2D, but just had better graphics.
Wait.. this plus the crashed car by Novac... Holy Shit, they really DID plan for you to meet the old protag. I remember finding this when I was younger but didn't understand why it felt so intentional. Thank you.
This and Noonan with his radscorpius strikes on his head on novac and his car all broken down a lil bit to the southwest of novac with my trusty vault 13 canteen and armored suit maybe the only motivation i needed to experiment the originals at last.
god i LOVE when NPCs in Fallout games refer to events that happened in the past that you can actually partake in in that game yourself. so you feel connected with this whole thing across several people's lives and generations in their world. it's sick AF

If anyone has not played the older games 1, 2 and tactics I strongly recommend playing them too full of lore as well. play the new ones after and some things will make a lot more sense too :)
