Clay, anyone who can accomplish what you did out in that hostile, unfriendly environment for 76 days all by yourself, deserves a lot of respect and admiration. That's a good endorsement for the P4 and from a guy who's life depended on the tool... doesn't get any more real than that. Thanks for all your videos.

@@clayhayeshunter you should look at the Leatherman Arc. Leatherman listened to all the complaints from customers on the P4 and the Arc is the final product after they made all those changes.

While the description says "tool only" it does come with one each of a bi-metal ruclips.net/user/postUgkx0vyBwjtx9GGOuiqUVT2sRoYqmDoNT_RI and HCS blade plus an adaptor plate for non-DeWalt blades. Wish I had known that before I bought the blade kit, but oh well. Since I already have a DeWalt drill, charger and batteries there was no need to buy more of those so this was a great deal. There is one other consideration. DeWalt does't sell the depth guide separately so you need to buy the three parts which make it up -- the N275350 block assy, the N275341 metal rod and the N278801 knob. Amazon does sell all three.

I'm normally not swayed by promotional videos... but the amount of your video content that you are using a Leatherman is endless so you know 💯 that the love for this tool came long before his endorsement!

Leatherman tools are terrific for what they provide. I personally like the Surge over the P4. It's capable of using T-shank jig saw blades without any modification and the blade is one of Leatherman's toughest blades. The Surge is a beast of a multitool and mine has been through hell and back. Thanks for you videos Clay. I've been a sub way before you going on Alone and it's really nice to see how unchanged you are afterwards. Congrats and again, thanks for the content.

I figured it out. It’s leaned up against the box next to him and his leg bumps the log and causes it to slide over. I thought it was some paranormal stuff at first. But I had to watch it pretty close on a large tv to understand what was going on and debunk what I thought was happening. Lol 😂

The Free P4 is an awesome MT, flips fluidity butterfly style. Some minor mods on my tool, serated blade file the top of the tip to make a tanto piercing blade. The Saw same and make a drywall saw, file an edge that matches the last saw tooth. Hidden tweezers, a SAK tweezer held with a small flat magnet at the plier side inside of the handle.

I have a Gerber multi-tool that I use every single day but it doesn't come apart like yours does the fastest thing that I can make come out is the pliers and that's it the rest you have to peel out with your fingers and the knife is not very thick either I've already had one to break. I know I can send them back to Gerber but I'm not. You're pretty good old buddy. Thanks for the video have a great day and stay safe and keep your powder dry!

I’ve got a collection of Leatherman tools (Bond, Rebar, Charge TTi, Signal, P2 which my wife has taken for herself, and the P4). The P4 is my daily carry, and agree with your review.
The little ruler thing you asked about is kinda pointless as a ruler, but the notch at the heel is a wire stripper and there is a bit driver which you can purchase that fits over the flat head end. It’s a ratcheting driver which is awesome.

I am going to order the p4 based on this review. Keep up the great work man. I went with the Leatherman Wave + because of the bit driver. I needed a 3/32" drill bit for making fishing lures out of wood, antler and bone. I can use the bit driver extender with hex shank drill bits or modify the drill bit to fit directly into the Leatherman bit driver. Of course if you are going on Alone they have special restrictions so this might not be allowed, Idk. I use the file extensively to shape my lures. I might replace my serrated blade with a bone saw. I've caught eight fish so far with my deer antler lures!

Thanks for the comparison, and congrats for the amazing things you´ve made with the P4! Love the box. And the planes! And I was playing with the thought of buying me a P4, but our unbelievable gun laws in Germany forbid to carry a tool that has a blade that can be opened and fixed with one hand... Bummer! So in the drawer goes my Charge. I undug my old Supertool, that is allowed, but it is really awkward to open, takes at least three hands! Enjoy your P4, Clay!

I was wondering how you kept the Leatherman from rusting out for all those days in harsh weather. I’ve had a Wave in a drawer in my garage for a while and it is full of rust and the inner tools are almost impossible to get out with using my finger nails. How would you lube this in a long term survival situation if you don’t have lubricants in your kit? They do rust! Thanks again.😊

I prefer the Supertool 300 and the Rebar style for two reasons:
    1. Tool position in hand. The Supertool lines up the "spine" of the tool to the handle meaning the tool is in line with your palm and it just seems better for me.
    2. Safety. With the tool being on top you have the bottom handle as a stop against the tool if the locking mechanism fails. You don't have that with the other models outside the tools inside the handle.

My old worn in Surge opens almost the same as my P4 but I was able to do a blade swap because of how the back locks work, you couldn't do that to the Surge. I swapped the plain edge so it's the left handed primary blade.

I know what you mean, I used a stone but a piece of granite rock with nearly flat edge for an emergency sharpener. I have also used other stone but they are not having the mini bumps in the flat edge due to the way Granite is, to get a better quicker sharp without needing a ton of passes in a flat rock. Quarts is the same way if you can find a flat edge on one, not smooth flat but a tad jagged.

That odd tool with the measurements on it was to be used for fishing without a pole straight down from the edge using a thicker material for the line. I know this as I have seen people use the tool fishing at lakes before with other tools using this. some even on boats using it to get the fish that are under the boat more easy, as a winter ice fishing pole is sometimes not short enough.

You should have looked at the Arc. The Arc is literally just Leatherman making all the improvements on the P4 that customers complained about.

I don’t have any complaints on the p4 and got it before the arc came out plus the arc is $100 more which is kinda ridiculous lol

Man, I love Alone and Clay is great but I think people aren’t realizing that the contestants actually get weekly visits from the crew, and further on those weekly visits turn into like a visit every 3 days. Sure, they don’t air that as to keep the whole “alone” vibe… but it’s not the *complete* isolation that everyone makes it out to be.

The longest I went without a med check was something like 3 weeks. Towards the end, they were coming out once a week.

This is why I like my Muti tool Leatherman Main one a Hodgon (Canadian designed I think) is that I can open it one hand with a bit of body for 50% of the opening. I have the tools on the inside ready as I can then if using a tool for a long time other then the small scissor, get my tools so they do not close back into me by closing the item up to prevent the tool I am using
from closing back in on itself. I am one that has had the tools close inward on me and I end up cutting myself with outer tool models like my dads actual Leatherman brand model with outer tools. Also mine has a set of screw tips in a small pouch on back for use In fixing something quick when I do not have a screw driver or drill with bits. Now for some reason the Leatherman like tool has a metric measuring tool on the outside making me think my model is the Canadian designed version. If I could find my model, I would get the thing for my brother, I might try again here soon for this for Christmas to find it or a very similar model. The tool is nice and I love using it despite the minor pain when using the pliers due to some sharp edges that could have been fixed on the model design by making the part that holds the tools in with a wider steel frame that had ergonomic edges to them like another I have.
The other I have an Ozark Trail one is odd with tools on the outside that do not lock in place well when closed due to being a cheap Walmart tool but lock overly well in place when using. I hate the Steel used as it is not durable unlike the other model it gets these odd rolls on the edges that are not the blade edge but non sharped edge. The pliers on the Ozark Trail model suck as they are spring style that I hate and had to remove the spring due to rust issues. lastly a number of the tools are odd things that do not work at all unless they are used as flat tip screwdrivers and one or two that are tools with these dull blades that do not work at all.

I prefer the Surge because of the replacable jigsaw blades T shank adaptor.
I'm surprised you don't use a wrist loop of paracord to avoid dropping it when using it single handed.
Totally agree about the Rebar handle edges, gloves or callused use only ! It's why I never bought the OG Leatherman.
Famous last words about batoning ! ☹️
Always baton blade unlocked people 👍

Only thing I would change(just me), is I'd trade the serrated blade for a longer file.
    Thanks for the review.

They literally did that on the Leatherman Arc. The Arc was designed after Leatherman listened to all the complaints of the P4 from customers. It's just an improved version of the P4 in every way.

I do not like using the blade on the Wave because the edges of the handle in that position is sharp. Other than that it is an amazing tool that saves me on camping and road trips. Recently I needed to strip some wires of the trailer light/brake cable for the trailer I was pulling, and I needed the pliers to pull fuses for the ones that shorted out in my truck fuse box that shorted out as a result of a faulty cable. Back on the road in 30 minutes in a remote part of British Columbia. Special thanks to Mike and Don for their advice.

Wow! The box is seriously impressive, weldone! I have an old standard issue black Core. It's falling apart now. Leatherman have told me they'll replace it, but they don't make the Core any more, so I thought I'd pay a few UK £ and get a Surge. Never thought about the P4, 'til now. Good job in BC Clay, like many others I felt there were too many restrictions for a really classic series (and too many griz as well).
    Hey ho! Regards P

I had a super tool for years and a friend broke the small screwdriver. I contacted Leatherman and they said if I shipped it to them, they would replace it with a compatible model. 7 days after I sent it off, I received their top of the line model including a new case free of charge. Great company. I don't think it will matter if they no longer make that model.
