    Put it in the shower with it set on cold for about 20 minutes then put it on and wear it for the day. But you got to cut the reed. And you’re the only person talking about this

      Sad, most hatters in hat shops don’t understand it. Even my colleagues don’t get it. Everyone has their opinion w they think theirs is right
      Keeping it on a stretcher for a year won’t matter if that Reed is there. just common sense, nobody bothers to examine how a hat is made

    That information is gold. I had never heard of the reed. Thanks.

    Worked great! I’m in between a 7 1/8 and 7 1/4. I got a Route 66 crushable that was a 7 1/8, but just a smidge too tight. Cut the tube and it did wonders for the fit. I did graze the felt with my knife but it’s not noticeable. Thanks, Kevin!

    Thank you Kevin, I'm between 7 5/8 and 7 3/4 LO. I've stretched a lot of hats, but the stretch never lasts. A quick snip gave me that extra space.

      @@quadrogong1111 I did it. It was a metal wire. Simply snipping it made it much more comfortable! You are a master!!! I think some stretching as you described will make it perfect.

    Hey Kevin have you seen the custom lids by Advintage. They look awesome.

    • @quadrogong1111

      No but I’ll take a look..

    • @quadrogong1111
      @quadrogong1111  3 года назад +1

      U were right, they look vintage and cool as the other side of the pillow, only one thing that concerns me, they never show the inside of the hat.. I’m sure they’re ok, because only American companies tend to be ripoffs,not the European ones, but yeah..I’d like to see that. One young viewer spend $400 at a clown named Lone Hawk hats, and got a pos w no sweatband, no trim, band.. and he refused to give him a refund, or sew in a sweatband, even at that price. I doubt advintage is like that guy, but I do like to see the inside of a hat if I’m paying a few hundred. In all it looks like killer styles, the colors are nice and the baggy crowns. Just stay FAR away from Lone Hawk hats, he’s a jerkoff, like the Scrooge who stole Xmas..
      they take hat bodies for $35 and resell them for $400-1250 w no sweatbands, then when they have your money, they refuse a refund because it’s a “piece of art”
      Advintage looks awesome though

    I've heard of people replacing reeds in vintage hats. if the sweat band can be replaced why can't it be replaced with a slightly longer reed?

    • @quadrogong1111
      @quadrogong1111  3 года назад

      The Sweatband is complete w the Reed inside, it’s rare someone would do surgery to a sweat band. They just tear out the nasty one, sew in a new one, but if you wanted to save a sweatband to a vintage hat and enlarge the size,you would have a big gap in the back where u increased the size..you’d have to patch the gap with some scrap leather. It could be done,but We generally just offer new sweatbands, if I want to replace it, we can,
      If u wanted to save the old sweatband, we wouldn’t suggest stretching the hat at all. Stretching really doesn’t work.
      replacing a Reed would be quite simpler than trying to enlarge a vintage sweatband.

    Is the Ken a hat that stays in stock. I’ve been looking at it and my size is sold old during the Valentine sale.

    • @quadrogong1111
      @quadrogong1111  3 года назад

      We order them custom, so it’s not easy to reorder, it shot up in popularity this year, maybe partly due to my video promos, but it is supposed to be in stock all year, but it sold ultra quickly, and new orders take many months to arrive..if it’s a popular color and size,it’ll just fly our quickly.. not sure if more are on the way, u would need to call Benji, or email them info@jjhatcenter.com and he can ask the boss if she ordered any more..

    I have a Stetson powder river from the buffalo collection and I saw what seems like a bunch of fishing lines together right where it’s supposed to be, so I cut it but then underneath it I saw what I believe to be a metal reed. Is this possible? Can I have both or did I just cut something else? Thanks! Edit: There was a metal tube in which the fishing line were passing. A little under 2/4 of an inch. I took it out. I guess future will tell if I messed up a brand new Stetson.

      That’s ok, you can take those little ferrules out, it’s just to strengthen that seam a little,clip the Reed,and then you can stretch the hat with your hands, across your chest, or over your knee lengthwise, carefully, slowly, but firmly

    Hi Kevin. In my borsalino I don't really see the reed lip like the hat you are showing. The stitching is the closest thing to the felt itself. Should I try to flip the band inside and clip it from the inside of the band? If that makes sense?

    • @quadrogong1111
      @quadrogong1111  2 года назад

      It’s the end of the leather sweatband, it should be there, and no, u can’t do it from the inside.
      Maybe u don’t have one? U can send me a photo of it to info@jjhatcenter.com attn Kevin

    Hey Kevin, I just ordered the Ken and I mistakenly ordered the wrong color, the I want is taupe and mistakenly ordered it in grey, I just sent JJs an email explaining this, was this course to take? Your thoughts would be greatly appreciated, by the way this video had me feeling groovy at the end 😎✌️🎸🤠

      Yeah, they look at the computers at like 11 am, after they open.. so yeah.. u can just call them on the 800 number 8006221911 and tell them u made a mistake,
      can they please correct it. See if u can talk to Benji,(or if not..Colin.) they can just change the order right there.. anyone else will have to tell Colin or Benji,
      It’ll be fine, but I’d call them, to ease my mind.. that way u don’t need to worry. Call me up 800 622 1911 Benji or Colin
      I can send an email too just in case,
