Personally, while I love Hellsing Ultimate, the OG Hellsing is by far my favourite. Everything from the music to the fact that you witness the Hellsing's soldiers into action instead of just guarding Integra's manor, is what makes the OG version more memorable and nostalgic.

I much prefer OG "Hellsing" to "Hellsing Ultimate", but I'm glad both versions exist for their respective audiences. For those who loved the Hellsing manga and wanted a more faithful adaptation, "Ultimate" did that very well. Personally, I loved the original as much for what it *didn't* carry over from the manga as much as what it did. I always felt like the manga went completely off the rails with the full-blown Nazi invasion and got about as silly as the "Iron Sky" movie (with Nazis on the moon), just with more blood. The original Hellsing anime went off in its own direction in its focus as well as the details of the plot. Their decision to slow things down and make Seras and her struggle to find her healthy middle between humanity and vampirism so central to the story was an A++ decision in my book. I also appreciated that it smoothed out the tone-shift roller coaster between the comedy and serious bits so they didn't feel so darn jarring. (Yes, I know those goofy sections were manga-accurate. They were another part of the manga I just didn't like.) The only part of OG Hellsing I think has aged poorly is some of that early 2000s CG. I know you were trying to save a buck, animators, but sometimes it pays off to just draw the bullet.
I also prefer the original hellsing ultimate is Wayyy too Gorey and traumatizing and rip Van winkle's death scene gave me a panic attack. At least you can watch this version with your friends
I prefer Hellsing Ultimate Abridged :) At least over Ultimate proper, because the earlier episodes actually are "abridged" and get longer around the beginning of the Nazi invasion the whole arc seems more like it's the actual plot and not just a completely out of left field derail, and the comedic scenes don't break the flow because almost everything is comedic in some way.
11:03 Crispin Freeman fucking KILLS it as Alucard's VA. Definitely one of the best voice acting performances I've ever heard. Though Curtis Arnott was a more than worthy successor to the role.

I don't much watch animation but this is an exception. Utterly sublime imagery, atmospheric cues, a good deal of violence, but most uniquely is how kind of warm & romantic the series is. A kind of fragile fatalism. Remarkable series.
I love how Hellsing uses the piano for the protagonist and the organ for the church-aligned antagonists. Little bit of instrument symbolism. (Obviously we get something a little different with incognito)
Can we take the time and appreciate the level of detail in the guns? 13:48 H&K MK.23 handgun. How she got a pistol that was developed for US Navy SOCOM is beyond me, even more so how well she handles such a hefty gun

The OVA’s feel so much like they were made to be watched on an old CRT, preferably on DVD or VHS. The little video errors that pop up from time to time in this video only add to that fun grainy feeling that old anime like this thrive on.
So I just recently finished the updated Hellsing on Netflix, but I did previously watch the very same on Kissanime some years back(RIP Kissanime, you will be dearly missed). I did watch the of Hellsing before but I don't remember much and already, I am loving it so much more because Alucard is ridiculously unhinged in the updated Hellsing, every chr is. Now I will come back here and tell what I think after Ive watched the of version in full, because the discussion is warranted and be it old or new, Alucard is still quite legendary and is deserving of such praise(ty Crispin Alucard Winston Freeman, lol)!
Few reasons of why i prefer OG Hellsing instead of Ultimate: 0:00 7:13 15:44 16:21 16:44 17:59 19:03 Soundtrack, character writing, ambient, animation style, dialogues, even some details (little example: when Alucard shots, he shots 10 rounds and then reloads his pistol, then you can see those 10 bullet shells in the floor, not like Ultimate where Alucard could shoot like 30 rounds without reloading)
I think that in Ultimate they removed the kiss part in 19:03 because of Pip, they weren't aware of the existence of him or his relationship with Seras.

As for the creators of this TV series not being aware of Pip Bernadotte's existence, this is not quite true - he made a debut in the 2nd volume which was released in Dec 1999. The TV series was released in Oct 2001 and covered the first 2 volumes. It's creators deliberately introduced changes to some scenes (like the kiss) and even to character personalities* to match their creative vision. This Hellsing was not meant to be a 100% faithful adaptation of the original material but went in it's own direction, starting with the genre itself - the manga's is a war opera and action slasher, with epic drama used to express it's philosophical ideas, and this one's is supernatural suspense and neo-noir, with significant mysticism and classic romanticism influences. So Seras kind of catching feelings and Alucard being rather cordial and suave towards her (and Integra) fits rather naturally in the latter. *I could expand on it since I wrote an essay back in school on the difference between character writing in the OVAs and the TV series, but you'd probably find it tedious, haha.
Have to say watched ultimate first years back enjoyed it a lot then watched the the original today and looking at the comparison ultimate rushes a lot of what makes the original great the exposition.

I prefer watching this version of Hellsing. The art direction, atmosphere, and the symbolism was what made this show unique and moody. For ultimate I'm just there for the action scenes. But nothing beats this one.

I prefer the moodier vibe of this one to Ultimate. The only issue I have with it is how often it tends to fall flat when it deviates from the original story.

If I recall, there was a lot of issues with airing this version of Hellsing due to licensing. Mix this with the company that was making it was on a downward slope(going completely defunct in 2009) I'm assuming they axed this series amongst others to save money.
Honestly the English dub suits more this series also this hellsing version in my opinion doesn’t feel like an anime it feels more like a western animation

@@cheerful_crop_circle English 100% the characters in the anime are mostly from England and the VA’s they chose got the accents down for the characters which makes it feel more real rather than a bunch of English ppl with Japanese dialect & tone

This series starts off so frigging strong and then it just goes into nowhere midway and ends completely off the rails, such a shame, It has so many good things going for it. Still better then Ultimate
If I recall, there was a lot of issues with airing this version of Hellsing due to licensing. Mix this with the company that was making it was on a downward slope(going completely defunct in 2009) I'm assuming they axed this series amongst others to save money.
And this somehow looks better than ultimate.
For some reason Netflix offers this in the Netherlands with only Japanese or French subs... Like wtf. Glad there is youtube.
Honestly the English dub suits more this series also this hellsing version in my opinion doesn’t feel like an anime it feels more like a western animation
