    Hi everyone,
    One important information !
    I had some issu with the Quansheng Dock and now it all works perfecly…
    I’m french and i’ve noticed that Quansheng Dock works correctly only if your Windows system language is set to English !!
    (Some files format must be changing depending of the languages).
    Nicsure is doing a great job and i hope he will solve this problem so that his genius Quandheng Dock could work under any Windows system language…

    I have a little problem. The frequencies fonts are huge and don't fit in the dock window. The fonts settings doesn't affect the character size on the frequency. Only the top row

    • @nicsure
      @nicsure  11 месяцев назад +1

      Set F Stretch to around 0.20. After changing settings for fonts you have to click "Exit" to refresh the display.

      @diandana 11 месяцев назад

      @@nicsure So.. F strech and a dock restart solved the font problem, but noticed a new one. When I open Xvfo the main (starting window) closes and the handy shuts down the lcd. The xvfo window shows the 1234.56789 freq.. Closing this windows revert the handy's display to normal. Also closing this window closes the program (main window already closed) If it matters: Windows 11 and CH340 programming cable

    • @nicsure
      @nicsure  11 месяцев назад +3

      @@diandana The XVFO is a totally different operating mode. It would make no sense to have both windows visible as the other one would be non-functional. The 1234.5678 is just the default when there's nothing else saved. I used that as the default because it uses all the digits and fills every available space in the display, makes it easier for layout work, just change it is all you have to do. Yes the button top right is to close the application just like pretty much every other windows application out there.

    Love your work... I have ordered a UV-K5(8) and am looking forward to installing your software :o)
    On your question regarding a USB morse key:
    There is a web service (VBAND) that will interface with a DIY USB device that 'emulates' a keyboard (via an Arduino library).
    I build a very simple one using a SEEED Xiao that monitor two input pins (for paddle, but straight key also possible), and send 'keystroke' on input being present.
    Also, it is powered by the USB connection, so no other power source is required (bonus).
    Please let me know if you would like any more details :o)
    Keep up the great work!

      Ah I see, a micro controller set to identify as an HID keyboard and send key press events. That's actually pretty neat as it won't require much modification (if any) to the app to work. Thanks for the heads-up.

      @robbie.robertson 10 месяцев назад

      No problem. As I said, happy to provide details should you need them...
      Also, just looked at your video on multi-Platform version, which go my wondering if it could be migrated (or replicated) under Godot (which I use as it's free :o)?@@nicsure

      @nicsure  10 месяцев назад

      Ultimately, all the front end does is send and receive serial commands, the platform doing that can be anything. But there are so many requests to make it work on this platform or that platform I have to look at exactly how many will use it. It's quite clear from the responses/views and activity on the non-windows side of things that such use is a VAST minority and quite frankly, there's not enough interest to devote any more time to it.

      @nicsure if there wa a usb gps on the pc could you do APRS or FT with the connection?

    • @nicsure
      @nicsure  11 месяцев назад

      @@jimsails12Yes I believe so. The radio is essentially a raw TNC, it would just need rudimentary AX.25 implementing PC side.

    • @puravik1
      @puravik1 11 месяцев назад

      That would be very interesting.

    • @nicsure
      @nicsure  11 месяцев назад

      @@puravik1I've been looking at APRS trying to figure out a strategy. I have to say, the whole thing is a bit of a mess the way it's implemented. In any case the radio itself looks like a bust, packet radio uses a weird variant of Bell202 AFSK, the radio as far as I can tell uses FSK natively. It would require not only AX.25 radio side but also demodulation of the audio. I can do that, I've done it before on my Altair Emulator for the cassette audio emulation. But I think the best strategy there would then to be use com0com or something to create a COM port that the dock can emulate a KISS mode TNC, then be used by WinAPRS or other application.

    • @KD9VUK-
      @KD9VUK- 11 месяцев назад

      If you can make it emulate a kiss TNC, that would be amazing! Plenty of good aprs programs out there.

    First of all, thank you for your great work, what are the chances of adding ADS-B and AIS functionality to the dock so it can track plane and ships locator beacons? Basically turning the Quansheng in to a full fledged RDS? (Similar to the RDSAngel software).
    And any chance of an android app so it will work with an android phone or tablet?

    • @nicsure
      @nicsure  11 месяцев назад

      I'm primarily a Windows coder, not had much experience with Android. I did have an Android app on the store years ago, but Google is such a freakin' bitch about stuff, I was getting notifications every day about crap like "Tax changes in Outer Botslavia ACT NOW!" and all manner of nonsense constantly so I just never bothered with Android again. If anything is done for Android it'll be a sideload APK, it certainly won't be on the store. As of yet though, no plans. I did grab Android Studio to have a look (my store app was in Unity) but it just confused the hell out of me (didn't pass the 10 minute test). Android is a horrible platform to develop on basically and not something I have much interest getting to grips with. So with that rant out of the way (sorry) about the other stuff you mentioned, I have no idea what any of it is.

    • @ExploringWithJason
      @ExploringWithJason 11 месяцев назад

      @@nicsure regarding the android apk, sideloading would be great, as for the others...in case you don't know about RTL-SDR Blog v4 (£25), they are usb dongles that can scan from 50kHz to 1700Mhz, so you can plug it in to a computer or android phone and see the spectrum analizer for around 3-13mhz or scan frok 220mhz to 380mhz in 8 seconds, as for what ADB-S and AIS is, planes and boats bot transmit location beacons so they can see other planes and boats on a map, including altitude, speed etc, planes transmit this beacon on 1090MHz and boats transmit on 161.975MHz and 162.025MHz, the softwarw (RTSAngel or Airspy etc) shows the beacon information received and you can see the location of the planes or boats on a map, this is without using internet, just by using the signal received by the antenna connected to the RDS dongle. That would be amazing if you can implinent the Dock to have that plane and boat beacon frequencies on 2 separate buttons and when pressed to show their location on map, basically turning the Quansheng in to a full fledged SDR (Software Defined Radio).

    • @nicsure
      @nicsure  11 месяцев назад

      @@ExploringWithJason The radio really isn't capable of scanning frequencies that quickly, it's just a limitation of the chipset and its reception below HF and up at SHF is spotty at best. So in short, you can get the radio to go through the motions of this stuff but in practice it would be wildly inferior to a device dedicated for the purpose. At max tilt, I can scan about 100 frequencies in just under half a second, so you can imagine how long it would take to cover a range over a GHz . Just not really practical.

    • @ExploringWithJason
      @ExploringWithJason 11 месяцев назад

      @@nicsure it's still close enough just by having that spectrum analyzer, what about the 1090MHz and 161.975MHz plane and boat beacons position on a map? 😸

    • @nicsure
      @nicsure  11 месяцев назад

      @@ExploringWithJasonIt would all depend on how the information is encoded and modulated onto the carrier. With stuff like this there's typically several protocol layers to navigate. Right now I'm working on APRS stuff so I'm getting acquainted with data mode operation. After that's done I'll take a look at other data types and see what I can come up with.

  • @darrenhague6669
    @darrenhague6669 11 месяцев назад

    I have not yet tried this version but when i was on v0.31.1q and used the scan feature it worked good when all scanned channels where on FM but if you had a AM frequency in, and it stopped on it, then all future FM frequency's where locked in AM mode. Please disregard if this fix has been done. Keep safe and keep up the good work.

    • @nicsure
      @nicsure  11 месяцев назад +1

      Yes, there was an issue with applying the mode correctly on VFO channels. I believe I have resolved ths now.

    • @nicsure
      @nicsure  11 месяцев назад +1

      Although the fix required me to change the way the modulation mode was stored in the settings which means presets entered on older versions will have their modulation modes messed up.

    Question: is there a software switch for the filters? It almost looks like its switchable.

    • @nicsure
      @nicsure  11 месяцев назад

      In the firmware there is this function that sets various registers to select filters.

    I have another recommendation, messaging from the dock directly using the joaquimorg firmware (egzumer fork) on the quansheng.

    • @nicsure
      @nicsure  11 месяцев назад +1

      I'm currently working on data based functions, bnt the style of messaging is never going to please everyone and making it selectable between types is just going to confuse folks. I have to make sure I make a good choice.

    • @nicsure
      @nicsure  11 месяцев назад +1

      Messaging and data functions are also very difficult for me to test as I only have one radio and no one else in my area I know with one. Nor are there any data signals of any use broadcasting near me. So this part is very challenging.

      @ExploringWithJason 11 месяцев назад

      @nicsure ruclips.net/video/1dt6ykstvOo/видео.htmlsi=no8jE8jPBvu58iEk this video shows how it works, I have no knowledge on this and I consider you at an expert level for making this dock, but I assume that all that is needed is to mirror the screen on the quansheng to show the text messaging screen on the quansheng, just being able to type the text from the dock itself and it would transmit from the quansheng, it boggles my mind how you managed to create this dock just by having 1 radio and a computer, well done sir 👍👍👍

    • @nicsure
      @nicsure  11 месяцев назад

      @@ExploringWithJasonI could do that, but the dock requires a lot of extra firmware code, there may not be enough room for the messaging part of the firmware. If I do it, it'll have to be implemented as part of the dock rather than the radio firmware.

    • @ExploringWithJason
      @ExploringWithJason 11 месяцев назад

      @@nicsure I see, and I hope my suggestions don't bother you (like the messaging or plane and boat tracking via some sort of decoding on the dock), it's amazing work what you're doing 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
