Hello Michael, Thank you for your video, I just purchase a fujitsu ix 500 , and I would like to know if you can file customer data on your cumputer after scanning, I know is good to get rid of paper but my question is when it comes to find a customer information from a invoice you scanned , how can you do that? would it recognized the paper you scan when you input their name or do you have to file a single invoice in order to find it when need a customer information? Thank You.
Hi Hubert, I may not be the best to ask because I don't use this feature but I'll try to help. The setting on the scanner will allow you to search by keywords in a document. I don't know how to set up the files to be sent to evernote or time capsule automatically. There is a way to scan it to dropbox or Google docs from the scanning menu. I scan everything to a file on my desktop and back it up with carbonite I can then view it off line with another device. Hope it helps! Have a nice day! Mike
Mike, I have a mac and I can't seem to get my scanned files to be editable. I tried to do it through Adobe Acrobat, but my comp says that program is not compatible with my OS x system. I tried to do it through the Scansnap pdf converter, but then after processing it was still not an editable version. What am I missing? Can you not edit your scanned items on a Mac? Thanks, MW
Mike-How do I incorporate a data base program with IX 500? I have 30 years of customer folders and would like to have capability of eventually doing a mailing list or bringing up customers in a particular zip code or those that purchased from a specific product category of mine, etc? Would really appreciate any advice. Joel
i'm interesting buying a snapscan, the model Fujitsu ScanSnap ix500, and my need is : 1 - I insert 5 sheets in the scan 2 - I push only one button then i go to take my coffee. 3 - When i come back later on, somewhere on my computer in a folder, i will found 5 PDFs. No action from my side to tell the computer where to rec, the file format... No action at all !!! Is the ScanSnap ix500 (or another model) will answer to my need ?
I've been hearing you can't use it wirelessly on pc but on mobile devices you can so you would have to connect it to your computer usb I just wanted to know is this correct or can I set it up wirelessy so the scanner can be in one room and my computer or laptop in another? thank you
Great piece of machinery and great review, Michael, however at 500€ for the standard model and 650€ for the deluxe in Europe, this is quite expensive for a SOHO. - Do you know if it scans photographs? - Do you know what is the difference between the standard and the deluxe model?
Thank you. Yes, It is expensive. But they are built to last and can handle pretty high volume. I use it everyday so for me it's worth it. It will scan photographs but a flatbed scanner would probably be better than sheetfed for that. I not sure which different models you are referring to but it usually comes down to speed or page per minute and capacity- how many sheets can be put in the tray. I did a lot of research before I bought these scanners and have not been disappointed.
Michael Mila Good to hear that you make use of the scanner. OK, here's my problem: I need to scan at least 2,000 handwritten pages. I don't want PDF or OCR. I just want to save in a directory all the scanned images in a lossless format, such as TIFF or PNG. I don't want any compression around the letters as with JPG images. Do you know if the ix500 saves losslessly to TIFF images?
As well do you get any software that you can use that you don't have to subscribe to such as searching information in the document like if you know the name of something that was on a receipt or the name of a restaurant would it be able to find it if you start typing what your looking for kinda like Neat Receipts software in a sense?
I haven't used mine for 6 months (out of town) and I can't remember how to set it up. It is plugged in and I push the button and nothing happens. It looked like you had an icon pop up on your desk top. ??
Hi Mike, I have cleaned my ix500 scanner with Fujitsu wipes but I am still getting a vertical line down scanned documents. If I scan a document with a colored background such as light blue with black text I get the line and a semi-transparent line approx. 1/2" wide also. Any suggestions?
How many pages did you scan and in what amount if time? Can you scan double sided paper without having to turn them over? Are there rollers to change eventually? What parts are needed in time and from where purchased? Can you get an extended warranty past the one year?
Hello Dolly, It says it does 25 pages per min.in back and white or color. I think it's faster than that. It does scan both sides (duplex) at the same time. The rollers can be changed. I've never done it though. I've had 3 and never bought anything. I'm sure you can buy an extended warranty. I never do and just apply what the extended warranty would have cost to replacement and upgrading to the latest technology in 3-4 years. Let me know if you need help. Mike
Jim, I have not used it. I know it helps organize your content. I have not had a need for it as I have a file system I scan right into. I don't see a need or advantage to change.
I have never had a problem scanning any type or size paper. I normally just scan 20lb bond paper but I've scanned checks and card stock without a problem.
Nick, It scans legal and you can adjust the tray to scan just about any size paper or card stock you want to scan. I have not had a problem scanning anything. Mike
Hello Cbord, Thank you...I don't think it will. The dimensions of A-3 are 11.7" X 16.5". The width appears to be limited to 11". It shows all the sizes on the feeder and A-3 is not listed on it. Sorry. Mike
Am I correct that you can only scan 1 document of the same size at the same time. I tried to run a number of separate documents (each 1 page) but it combines it into 1 document. Any help with scanning multiple documents?
I have never used the 1300i. It has good reviews on Amazon and is priced @ $259.00. It is limited to 10 pages at a time. This might be good if you are scanning receipts and invoices. The ix500 has a 50 page feeder is priced at $420.00 and has worked perfect for me everyday. If you are doing multiple sheets and want to scan fast. I recommend the ix500. Fujitsu scanners last a long time and are worth the investment.
Hi. Here Hubert from Austria. I just got the ix500. I would like to store all my Files OCR searchable. How can i store my Files searchable by OCR into a file , into evernote and my time capsule in the automaticly ? What do u do with bills and Bank Files? In europe or at least in Austria and Germany u are supposed to KEEP the original bills for 7 years. Best Wishes
Hi Mike. Your office is inspiring! I am currently drowning in paper and just purchased the scansnap ix500. Having fun getting older files scanned and saved in Drive. I have a few questions for you if you don't mind. First, I can't seem to get the wireless to work and not sure where to find help. I entered the router password and all when set up yesterday. Today when I went to use it, it would only work when I plugged into my MacBookPro. Second, I just noticed that what some of the packets I've scanned, it's scanning the front page (they're all 1-sided pages) and then a second page is added that looks like the reverse of the front page. Maybe it's set up to do 2-sided scanning? Problem is I cannot find any access to where I would change something like that! Any ideas? I am on a very strict mission to get the several businesses I work for completely paperless within the next month so if you're up for any other tips, I would love to hear them. Thank you, Christine
great! Thanks! I did figure out the double sided vs single sided issue. My scanner was automatically doing double so it was picking up what it saw through the paper!
I pretty sure the Fujitsu Scansnap ix500 will get as close as possible to being as hands off as you would like. I think you have described how easy it is. You can put 5 sheets in... push one button and it will ask where you the PDF. You can set a folder to always save to as well. If you put all 5 pages in at once you will have 1 PDF of those 5 pages. It really is that easy. Good Luck and let me know how it goes.
Chul, I can only comment on the Fujitsu scansnap scanners. I've never owned or tried the neatscanner. I highly recommend the Fujitsu scansnap. I've had 3 and they work perfect. Thanks, Mike
Hello Gustavo, Sorry for the delay in getting back you I was on my family vacation and just returned today. I know that you can search PDFs that you have scanned by the contents if you have the setting to allow the text to be searchable it takes longer to scan. The best way I have found to do it is to name the PDF the invoice number and search by that. I hope that helps, if you need more information I can review the manual for you. Thanks, Mike
Great video. Just a thought while you are doing your video recording with your computer's camera you might want to do a video capture of the computer screen you are going to with audio from computer microphone to keep in sync with any comments you make. Does that make sense? It would be easier to read what you are referring to with a screen video capture. You may be a business but we all collect paper. I have boxes and boxes of old tax records. I think your on-camera technique is good as we know who is speaking and can develop a sense of trust with a face vs a compute screen.
Hi John, You aren't the first to tell me to keep my face off the camera but you have the best way of saying it. You might be the nicest commenter on you tube. I don't have a screen capture program and I didn't want to spend $300 on Camtasia for the videos as I don't charge for them. It's more a community service. I just try to share things I like and things that work well. Thanks for the feedback. Thanks, Mike
Hi Mona, The scanned documents are being converted to a PDF and are being saved to a file on the desktop. I also save some to dropbox so I can access them from multiple devices. You can save the PDF's anywhere you would like and have access them later. Mike
Mzz Mona Mona, If you want to do a Google hangout, I'll show you how to save the PDF and access it. You will find the PDF files are very easy to access. It will take us less than 3 minutes to do. Let me know if you want to do a Google hangout. Mike

Very helpful, thank Mike. Ordered the IX500 today.
You're very welcome Jeff. I've used it everyday for the past year and have not had any problems. Good Luck.
Dear can we also scane large format papers like Tabloid (11*17) or legal size ?

Have you used Rack-2 Filer and what are your thoughts? Thanks.
Jim, I have not used it. I know it helps organize your content. I have not had a need for it as I have a file system I scan right into. I don't see a need or advantage to change.
How does it do with folded bills? And do you notice a difference when they are different qualities of paper?
I have never had a problem scanning any type or size paper. I normally just scan 20lb bond paper but I've scanned checks and card stock without a problem.
Nick,
It scans legal and you can adjust the tray to scan just about any size paper or card stock you want to scan. I have not had a problem scanning anything.

Good Day, this is a nice review. Can this scan an A3 size sheet?

Dan,
I usually scan a bunch of papers together as 1 PDF. I think you would need to scan them separately if you wanted them kept as 1 document.
Mike
With Adobe Acrobat that comes included the single many page file can be easily split up as needed.
I have never used the 1300i. It has good reviews on Amazon and is priced @ $259.00. It is limited to 10 pages at a time. This might be good if you are scanning receipts and invoices. Hi Christine,
Let me look into it. I'll have you some answers by tomorrow.
Mike

How did you make it scan one sided only? Thanks!

I can only comment on the Fujitsu scansnap scanners. I've never owned or tried the neatscanner. I highly recommend the Fujitsu scansnap. I've had 3 and they work perfect.
Thanks,
Mike
thank you
Michael.
Excellent product!
So if I wanted them as separate PDFs, I need to scan them separately.
I believe so. That is the way I've always done it. There may be another way... but I'm not aware of it.

is it TWAIN compatible?

I am very first time to use and confusing of how to safe to a file and adds more doc to the same month file.
Good, i will get one soon now. Thanks a lot !
Hello Raymond,
No, It is not TWAIN compatible.
Mike
what type of system is it being saved to?
Hi Mona,
The scanned documents are being converted to a PDF and are being saved to a file on the desktop. I also save some to dropbox so I can access them from multiple devices. You can save the PDF's anywhere you would like and have access them later.
Mike
Ok.. I need something like access but not so access complicated
Mzz Mona Mona,
If you want to do a Google hangout, I'll show you how to save the PDF and access it. You will find the PDF files are very easy to access. It will take us less than 3 minutes to do. Let me know if you want to do a Google hangout.
Mike
can you scan passport and credit card?
You can scan a copy. The passport or credit card won't go through the feeder.
I think that may be a back handed compliment.... I'll try to keep my face off the camera in the future.
the ix500 doesnt come with a twain or WIA driver, its totally useless with all other products unless you use their software
+Peter James you are right. That is the only down side of this scanner. It doesn't have a twain driver.
Hi Mike! Any idea how to turn OFF the double sided scan feature? Thanks!
Jun,
I emailed you a list. I will send it again.
Mike
Jun,
I found a list of contacts I will email you.
Mike
You are welcome. Send me a message if you need some help. I'm not an expert but I'll help if I can. Have a good day.
You are a good looking guy, but I would rather see what you are showing on the computer screen...
Neat is a joke! Costumer service isn't there for u!!! Plus ix-500 is much faster!!!
I just resent the contacts to jbville@yahoo.com
