Finally a realistic prep video.
I'm a single person and before the pandemic I was able to keep the cost of my monthly groceries at about $100. Nowadays I'm hard pressed to stay at $150/month.
Watching your videos makes me realize that I can do better. Thanks for the encouragement!
Me 2. Learning how to save by making my own bread
The Love you added was the most important ingredient!! Watching you cook is so wonderful!
i would suggest also to search out super discount, surplus outlets in your area...i'm very blessed to have an amish discount store and a surplus outlet....i don't care if cans are dented, etc....i focus on dry goods, canned goods, first, they are usually cheaper and store well....these places also have fresh foods much cheaper as well....i'm low income and retired, so i really search these places out....thank you so much Denise for your advice, your channel is informative, God bless you and family
Hello from Australia. I find your videos very helpful. I am 68 and work and it is so easy to get caught up in the convenience lane. Your videos have helped me to remember that home making is so satisfying. Thankyou
hi. I'm in Australia too ! Denise is great ! 😍💛
Hello everyone I so enjoyed this ...reminded me how much I miss my mom as she worked wonders with a very limited budget and kept our family of 5 well taken care of. You are right, learning how to make food from scratch is so important. Thank you I really loved watching you cook!
I always find videos like yours so helpful. Even though now. I’m doing better for myself. They are still good tips for saving money 😊
I'm learning how to make biscuits and sandwich bread! Congratulations on having the courage to create this platform. 🎉 Im enjoying your clevererness with cooking these meals.
I've had those refrigerated pie crust fall apart too. The biscuit topping came out nice. I like the music in your video. It's soft and relaxing. I like you showing how to eat good meals on a tight budget.
Hi Denise, delicious food, your so home inviting, I do not use oil, I use water in place of it, oil is 120 cals per tablespoon
You know, my friend Leona at Ebony, Ivy, and Thyme do that too. I’m trying to use less but haven’t gone completely off it yet.
Well I’m spending too much it’s just me and I spend $300 a month, now yes that’s high for one but I base my cash hudget based as though I was on snap which is $291 at the full benefit amount..,do I stockpile ? Yes because in winter I don’t go out much because I have cerebral palsy.
I don’t think you are spending too much. $10/day. Stocking one’s pantry is the responsible and economical thing to do as prices keep rising!
These recipes look great! I swear I could smell them through the screen😂
I know that a lot of people mentioned that these are supplemental benefits. And that’s true. It’s also true that it’s important to be able to shop your pantry. The problem is if you don’t have much of a pantry to shop, It can really hard to build it up on $30 a month. The other tthing I noticed is that there wasn’t any coffee in your grocery haul 😳 Or tea, or anything like that. Could I live without my coffee? Yes. But I would be pretty miserable. That might be one of the things that you could get from a food pantry.
I thought that $30 for the month sounded really low, but I actually checked for my state and the minimum here is $29. 😮
I had some neighbors who were extremely food insecure so if I was cooking some thing I would try to double it to make sure I could give them at least two hearty portions in a container. And sometimes I would do I guess a sort of blessing box. And I would put together things like a couple cans of macaroni and cheese and a couple cans of tuna and if I knew they were going to be home I would include some frozen vegetables like peas and corn, otherwise I would do canned. That way they could make a tuna casserole which would give them each a couple of servings. I never made a big deal about it, I would just say that I knew that they had been working hard and wanted to give them some thing for an easy dinner so they didn’t have to worry about cooking from scratch. That way they had some things for either the end of the month when money was extra tight, or they could have it if they need something fast instead of going to a restaurant or ordering delivery.
Things can get really hard, really fast! I appreciate that you did this challenge on behalf of your friend and that you learned so much and were able to share it with us!
Hopefully we can take some of these lessons and share them with other people who need it.
Thank you 💕
You are a lovely neighbour. God bless you for your kindness.
@@bumblebee4280 thank you 💕
Love your videos! I’ll spend 200 dollars a month for myself and my husband. And that’s on food. And then I allow another $50 or so for extras like the food for my dog and household supplies such as toilet paper. Thank you for doing this video. It always helps to get new ideas on how to stretch the budget.
Like that idea even for soups n stews
A person could probably survive on $30 if they didn't know that's all they had, but when you know for sure that there will be no more money, there's a looming dread that can make it impossible to plan well.
Denise you have me thinking, “How can I incorporate whole grain instead of white flour?” Cornbread muffin instead for biscuit? 🤔
Ever since I find bugs in my flour I have been hesitant to buy or use it.
I love buck wheat and dark rye. But the only way to get those is online or out town. Cornmeal is easy and I found an all-purpose gluten free flour at Walmart. I want to start doing videos on how to work with other flours.
You can store flour in the freezer to keep bugs out.
I always keep my flour in the refrigerator, either in a big canning jar or put the flour bag right into a big ziplock bag. It stays fresh forever!
Thank you; v helpful ! 👌💛
These are so homey! I make them too- what's more I have some identical utensils for cooking with! Thank you!
Now I need to make some chicken pot pie next week.
50 yrs!!!! Seriously????😮
Hi lovely video, quick question- was the chicken pre cooked?
With Thanksgiving around the corner do you think it’s possible to have a Thanksgiving meal for a family of four for $30?
That’s a good question and yes. I think so. We might have to make some adjustments but It’s possible.
Absolutely! Walmart and other grocery stores always have cheap store brand turkeys (around 10 dollars), and then potatoes (I've seen them for 99 cents for a 5 pound bag at the holidays), yams, stuffing (a dollar for a cheap box) and cranberry sauce are usually on sale pretty cheap too. I think that would all come to around 20 dollars total just for those things, (maybe a little more if you're going to get onions, celery, butter, etc for your stuffing) and you should have money leftover for pie ingredients if you want a nice dessert. If not, you could bake some apples for the desert. Don't buy gravy, use the turkey drippings.
I've always just cooked the bird, a butternut squash, some potatoes, maybe some stuffing, and a little cranberry sauce and it's a lovely holiday meal. If I want desert, I bake apples, or make a pumpkin pie filling with no crust so it's more like a custard. (But you can find a frozen crust for around a dollar or two if you want a crust, or make your own if you have flour, butter or shortening, and salt.) I keep it simple.
You cant eat well and healthy without fresh vegetables at least once per day.
Fresh, frozen, canned…veggies are needed at least twice daily. I don’t always get them in but I’m going to work harder at it.
