    King Kong is my favorite movie (and digibook) of all time closely followed by the Hitchcock collection. Excellent video!😊 Nobody talks about digibooks anymore.

    Digibooks will always hold a special place in my heart. Particularly getting into blu-ray collecting around 2010-2011.
    WB’s digibook for Batman (1989) was one of first I ever bought (from Barnes & Noble, no less!) and it actually had excerpts from Sam Hamm’s script. Believe it or not, those were the pages I learned screenplay format from. Before I had a laptop, I would write my scripts in pencil on notebook paper, and I would consult those pages for scene headings, transitions, dialogue tags, and more. Good memories ☺️
    And great video, DJ!

    Hi, DJ! Sorry for the ridiculously late response, but thanks for the shout out to my favorite film of all time, Meet Me in St. Louis. However, the film actually starts in the summer with the Halloween sequence coming later. Also, I'm looking forward to hearing what you think of Mr. Smith Goes to Washington when you finally see it (hopefully sooner rather than later). It was on my "most want to see" list until some friends and I were able to rent it and watch it in our dorm at Ball State back in the mid-80s. I think you'll love it. See you tonight.

    Very informative video. Never heard the term Digi-book before. Digi-packs, yes, but not books. At first, I didn't think I had any digi-books in my collection, but I remember I had THE PRINCESS BRIDE and I think the GODZILLA set be considered as a digi-book.

    Digibooks are the best for physical media & I'd rather have them over steelbooks any day. I think Warner and Columbia had the best releases. Some of my favorites are Se7en, What Ever Happened to Baby Jane?, Meet Me In Saint Louis, The Musicals 4 movie collection, An Affair to Remember and Labyrinth. I would really like to find Mr. Smith Goes to Washington, You Can't Take It With You and Lost Horizon.

    Excellent choices, DJ, many of which I have in my own library. Love those classic Warner Digibooks! Foreign releases are a slippery slope, I’ve been collecting the Hammer horror series-36 and counting-from Anolis in Germany and it’s painful as there are *multiple* alternate covers of original poster art for each release (though I try to keep it to just one per movie unless it’s a particular favorite 😅).

    WB created the blu ray digibook and their first release was Bonnie and Clyde. Their second digibook release was Dirty Harry. I have about 30 digibooks. IMO, Some of the best looking are the 20th Century Fox digibooks. Their digibooks do not have the distracting blu ray banner on the front and have nice artwork on the front and back covers. The books also have a glossy finish. They have a pocket that holds the disc. I read that that was because WB had a patent on the disc holder and would not allow FOX to use that design. Some examples of the FOX digibooks are The Hustler, Cleopatra, All About Eve.

    Highly recommend, checking out Vinegar Syndrome’s Cinematographe line of Digbooks. They are some of the best I’ve ever seen I’ve been collecting them highly recommend them. they have a very similar feel to Criterion Princess Bride, and they come with a hard cover, slipcase crazy packaging

      Do you know if the Little Darlings set is still in print? I looked it up on the VS site, but I couldn’t tell if it was the digiBook or the standard. Their wasn’t a drop-down to select a version.

    Loved this video. I have a relative few compared to yours (probably because of my preference for Steelbooks) but in addition to The Princess Bride and Meet Me in St. Louis, I have a very nice digibook of Kenneth Branagh’s Hamlet. Princess Bride and Hamlet especially lend themselves to the digibook format. In addition, my beloved Criterion box sets of Fellini and Agnés Varda are both digi-album (is that a thing?) formats. Large sleeved, large boxes that are more like a photo albums. They’re both very nice.

    • @FilmsByColor
      @FilmsByColor  4 месяца назад +1

      I like the term album. I don't have the Fellini or Varda box sets yet, but I'm hoping to get them someday. They look incredible.

    • @yourfiendmrjones
      @yourfiendmrjones 4 месяца назад

      Oh, they are. I’m grateful I’m more choosy about box sets of this size because I don’t really have a ton of time to watch every single title in these sets right away. So they need to be collections I love already as it takes a real long time to watch.

    Excellent video, and I very much appreciate your infectious enthusiasm. Always wanted to pick up the Universal Monsters set, but the 4K editions have always given me pause as to which path to choose.
    Personal favorite Digibooks (which I much prefer over steelbooks: not my thing) are the Criterion Godzilla set and my old Jaws edition.
    Speaking of Criterion, when is your next Criterion Corner with Connor scheduled? Always enjoy those.

    If you want an individual film release recommendation.
    I know that the recent All Quiet on the Western Front (2022) remake has a really nice digibook release that is floating out there.
    Also great film, but I’m pretty sure you’ve already seen it and know that it’s great.

    Thanks for sharing. Interesting list for sure. May I suggest you check out "Cinématographe" sub label from Vinegar Syndrome? They are releasing some decent 60s - 90s films in glorious Digi book format. These have a spine number and also a serial number as well. I have the first two releases in my collection and the other two in pre-order.

      @@FilmsByColor Hello, DJ! I mean the majority of great Hitchcock films are in the first set. The others are mixed with average films (like The Trouble with Harry or The Man who Knew too much) and really bad ones, as Topaz or Family Plot. I got the stand alone 4k release of Rope!
