In this video, I present how we used artificial neural networks to break the Hagelin M-209 cipher machine with a known-plaintext attack. I’ll explain the M-209's encryption mechanism and how our neural network models achieved up to 96% accuracy in recovering its pin settings. We’ll have a look into the details of our approach and the results of our experiments. Join me to learn about the exciting intersection of cryptography and machine learning, and where this research is headed next.
I gave this talk on the HistoCrypt 2024 in Oxford.

Now we are talking! I've been combining the concepts of cryptography and AI ever since I started the project, 2012 era. It is great to see this finally observed and respected in the field. Great video content as always!

hello, I have just begun learning about cryptography and want to install Cryptool 2. But there is only a version for windows. Are there any alternatives for Macbook?
Moreover, I want to ask where should I begin to learn and which most appropriate books and websites to learn cryptography for the beginners

      Heyho!
No, there is no CT2 version for MAC, but some people got it running. In a virtual machine with Windows, it will. You can also use CrypTool-Online (cto), which you can find here: www.cryptool.org/en/cto/
Concerning learning cryptology, I made an introduction lecture series on cryptography, which you can find here: ruclips.net/p/PLMuvAbyIl0PT6zaRVpK0FCSNMgwAOckTt
The CrypTool website www.cryptool.org/ offers many resources.
      Greetings,
      Nils
