    When you were listing the ones that have an X in a "keyword N" ability, I was surprised to not see Ob Nixilis the Adversary as he's the only one with Casualty X, but it turns out the rules don't bother explaining that one at all

    • @lucasriddle3431
      @lucasriddle3431 4 месяца назад +2

      It's adequately covered; if a value is stated as "X" and nothing is defining X, you get to pick what X is as it becomes relevant. Same as any spell with an {X} in its mana cost. 107.3a covers this for additional costs of casting spells (which is what Casualty is).

      Ob Nixilis is also unique in being the only (I think) card in the game to intentionally not have all of its functionality on MTG Arena. The client doesn't let you sacrifice a creature with power greater than X. One of the developers confirmed this was to make the card less cumbersome, as they didn't think the corner cases were worth it.

    10:41 Wasn't the Henzie fix also targeting Serra Paragon? The CR change for Unfinity brought with it a fix for Serra Paragon (the notes on that change specifically mention Serra Paragon, and they talk about 400.7b, 400.7i, and 611.3d). Serra Paragon was also printed after Henzie, if I'm not mistaken.

    It's not exactly the same, but to go with Benevolent Blessing, there were a few older white Creature Enchantments (surely now erratad to Auras) that granted protection from a color and specified that the granted protection didn't remove the Aura... even when they were granting a specific color besides white, so turning the Aura black wouldn't cause pro-black to knock it off.

    6:13 what happens if you ephemerate the face down instant or sorcery from magar of the magic strings? Since it's being exiled by ephemerate the replacement effect ability doesn't do anything, and the ephemerate effect will try to put an instant or sorcery onto the battlefield. Id guess it just stays exiled?
    Ok i read the gatherer rulings, it stays exiled. Interestingly an effect that would turn a face down card face up instead does nothing for this one, except for requiring you to reveal the card to show it's an instant/sorcery.

    For CR 506.6 (when looking at Firkraag) can someone explain if I am understanding the last part of the last sentence correctly.
    It seems to imply a boardstate where a creature attacking was the only legal play but that creature wasn't required to attack (from goad e.g.).
    Does it mean a board where an opponent has e.g. trove of temptation (essentially a player goad) and I have only one creature, and the rule is distinguishing between a player being forced to attack but that specific creature not being forced to attack?

    Something I've always wondered and that isn't explained in the collection of rulings in Gatherer: does "top creature card of your graveyard" mean the topmost creature card in your graveyard, or only the top card, which must be a creature? For example, if your graveyard has a creature with a sorcery on top of it, can you exile the creature to Circling Vultures?

    • @OceanicBacon
      @OceanicBacon 2 месяца назад +1

      The top creature card in your graveyard is the topmost card in your graveyard that is a creature, even if that card is not the top card of your graveyard. So in your example you can exile the creature to circling vultures even if there is a sorcery on top of it.

    I have a question about the new Obeka, Splitter of seconds. How does she interact with spells and abilities that cause extra combat steps? For example, you have her and Karlach, Fury of Avernus on the battlefield, and you deal combat damage with Obeka. What happens? Do you get the extra combat first? Or the upkeeps? Or something else?

    Hey,
    quick question about how Serum Powder works:
    Let's say i take a first mulligan and draw seven new cards. I don’t like these but have a Serum Powder in Hand:
    Do I have to exile all seven cards and draw seven new, then decide which one hoes to the bottom of my library?
    OR
    Do I have to exile all seven cards and draw seven new and keep them because it is not mentioned in the effect of Serum Powder, that i have to discard?
    OR
    Do I have to put a card on the bottom of my library first and then exile six cards and draw six new cards?

    • @OceanicBacon
      @OceanicBacon 2 месяца назад

      it’s the third option. You bottom a card, then you exile 6 and draw 6. If your new 6 has a serum powder, you can exile those 6 and draw 6 more. If it doesn’t then you can keep it or go to 5 as normal

    • @TheGorillah
      @TheGorillah 2 месяца назад

      @@OceanicBacon Hmm, this sounds like a Paris Mulligan with one extra draw but i heard Serum Powder is much stronger with the London Mulligan rule.
      Are you sure this is the right answer?

    • @OceanicBacon
      @OceanicBacon 2 месяца назад

      @@TheGorillah That is definitely how it works. The london mulligan makes mulliganing in general more powerful than the paris mulligan, so in that sense Serum Powder is stronger with the london mulligan, but you still have to bottom the appropriate number of cards before you exile your hand.

    • @TheGorillah
      @TheGorillah Месяц назад

      @@OceanicBacon In that case there wouldn't be an advantage between for london mulligan.
      It would bring the paris mulligan in todays play with an extra draw. So no advantage because with the london mulligan you can usually draw seven new cards.

    • @OceanicBacon
      @OceanicBacon Месяц назад

      @@TheGorillahUsing the powder is not an actual mulligan so the functionality doesn’t change with changes to the mulligan rule, but i suppose the London mulligan does make serum powder easier to find as you are mulliganing

    The oracle text of Drain power states that "Target player activates a mana ability of each land they control." That's odd to me, as the card seemingly forces a player to activate the abilities. Like, your opponent, by the card's effect, must use all of their lands to add mana to their mana pool.
    How does the resolution of this spell work? Can you, in regular circumstance, activate mana abilities as a spell is resolving?
    Another part of the card says "Then that player loses all unspent mana and you add the mana lost this way." Can your opponent use that mana before its "stolen?" What is the timing window for how an opponent can react to this before, during and after this spell has resolved?
    I think a better wording for this card would be something like "Tap all lands target player controls. Then that player loses all unspent mana in their mana pool and for each land tapped this way, add one mana of that player's choosing that the land could produce and add mana equal to the mana lost this way to your mana pool." I just feel like the whole "forcing you opponent to activate their lands" is weird and unnecessary.

    • @poiri
      @poiri 4 месяца назад +1

      You can activate mana abilities during the resolution of a spell or ability if you have reason to, such as paying for a Mana Leak or casting a spell during the resolution of a spell like Invoke Calamity if you need to pay mana for some reason. Or in this case, because you want that mana for yourself.
      Also that text is functionally different since they won’t take damage from, say, an Ancient Tomb, as well as only getting one mana from it, it’ll also work differently with any filter land
