  • Plans for a high-speed train between Dallas and Houston have a lot of support. But what it will look like when it passes through Downtown Dallas on its way to Arlington and Fort Worth received some harsh criticism Wednesday when the city council saw it for the first time.

    Hurry up and build the dang train. The whole DFW has trains already, but we need this route to Houston immediately.

    The drive from Houston to Dallas is a drag, and I believe there would be a lot of support for a High Speed Rail linking the 2 Cities, it would be a big plus for Texas, of course the logistics can be worked out in terms of where to locate the terminals and how, but I don't think that alone should deter the project from moving forward. Half the people yelling about Environmental concerns are still drinking cans of beer or coke and throwing their discarded cans into the regular garbage, and instead of eating organic have no problem with gorging themselves on KFC or McD's. So I'm not so sure as to why they have so many environmental concerns when it comes to this.

    Does it really need to go Fort Worth? I mean we have the TRE and they can upgrade the trains and double track the whole line to add express non stop service to Fort Worth. Not only that the bridge design is eyesore.

    They haven’t even realized how high speed rail impacts the entirety of their focus for the area because;
    1. Convention Centers draw hotel traffic
    2. The best place for a hotel is within 10 minutes of a transit network
    3. The High Speed rail helps to prioritize densification of cities
    4. That High Speed Rail will create a natural transit hub allowing for more people to make it to the Convention Center
    5. High Speed Rail makes a business in the area more profitable
    I hope they realize that they are shooting themselves in the foot and then claiming that someone else shot them

      Texas soil doesn't do well for underground projects. There is too much groundwater, and the soil is expansive with a shallow frost line. That's also why their are rarely basements in Texas as well.

      @@slowbro1337 while there would normally agree with you. Keep in mind that a couple of sections of dart are presently underground with no major issues. I would agree long stretches underground would be costly. However a short section to run underground of downtown would be feasible. I will also agree that for that section, the coat could be three or four times higher then the above ground version. The thing is we do need to have a high speed rail system, to remain competitive in the world marketplace. Not something that plans can do. Since there are many times planes are delayed or canceled where under the same circumstances a high speed train would not.
