Vienna's Imperial Palace is one of the biggest palace complexes in the world. The oldest parts date to the 13th century, with construction having continued right into the 20th century. The Imperial Palace was the residence and seat of government of the Habsburg emperors until 1918. Today, it is home to numerous museums with outstanding collections, the Spanish Riding School, a congress center, the seat of the Austrian Federal President as well as the historic Heldenplatz.
For more than seven centuries, the Habsburg empire was ruled from the Hofburg Imperial Palace. Today, the Gothic Imperial Chapel, where the Vienna Boys’ Choir performs during High Mass on Sunday, is a remnant of the Imperial Palace during the Middle Ages. In the middle of the city center, you can marvel at the splendor and magnificence that made up the everyday life of the former imperial family on a visit of the private chambers and staterooms. Numerous museums and collections represent the imperial family’s passion for art.
Historically developed complex:
The Imperial Palace, which until 1918 was inhabited by the imperial family, was originally a castle built in the thirteenth century, which was extended to a splendid residence in accordance with the increasing power of the Habsburgs and the expansion of their realm. Today, the Imperial Palace houses the office of the Federal President as well as an important congress center and numerous art collections. Historic Heldenplatz, once planned as an extensive imperial forum, is dominated by the monumental equestrian statues of Prince Eugen and Archduke Karl. This spot affords the best view of the Imperial Palace as well as the adjacent Volksgarten.

When I first came to Vienna I thought „woah wouldn’t it be amazing to live here?” Now your channel encourages me more and more to finally move there. I even started learning german 3 years ago and when I finish my university in where I live, my plan is to move to Vienna. This city is the most amazing one in Europe and I fell in love with it immidiately. Hofburg is one of my favourite places in the whole city but I wish the parking lot wasn’t there, it ruins the whole impression. Thank you for such incredible videos and maybe see you in Vienna in a few years ❤️
