I like the theory that Dragon is a former Holy knight. He seems to know a lot about this mysterious/hidden group for the government, enough to be genuinely scared of them. He could have been forced to join because Garp became the hero of the marines. And it finally also might be able to form a connection to the theory that Luffy's mother was a world noble, possibly a noble who Dragon could have had to be a guard for and gained feelings for when he was a holy knight.
That could be a fun twist for a moment but it make less logical sense for the overall story.
Dragon is a D member, meaning his ancestors were the enemies of the celestial dragons and world government that were entirely wiped out in a genocide.
There’s no way they don’t know Garp is a D and have historical records of family members.
And also, Dragon had to have grown up and been brought up in adolescence in poverty and witnessing a lot of injustice/corruption/inequality … in , young adulthood he might have been part of the marines or some secret organization in them like CP9 to get all the hidden knowledge at some point following Garp then left then after Roger’s execution.
We have seen at least 1 former holy knight Way back in dressrosa we are introduced to a shining knight on a polkadot Pegasus named Gaunfall.
@@plotholedetective4166 I thought about that too, and maybe he's one of the ones on the right or is retired from that title. I only say that because these knights seem to have shoulder armor that goes up from the shoulders to a point, Gan Falls shoulders were big and rounded in his armor.
@@neltins5308 He doesn't necessarily have to had grown up in poverty, He could have seen that injustice from the inside when he was doing a mission or something and had a change of heart after realising that the world is very corrupt, and the people who he was working for were scum. (kind of like that storm trooper character from the Disney trilogy of star wars, but you know - better written)
But you are right about the other parts, though it does seem quite suspicious that Dragon seems scared of these holy knights when they don't seem like a force that goes out and handles problems outside of Mary Geoise and is more of the World Governments final trump card. That kind of fear that he is expressing is not only the first kind of fearful emotion he is really expressing, but is also the kind of emotion that seems like an emotion you don't just get from hearing about these people from someone else. I think that even if he wasn't a former member, he has to have had some previous interaction with them at some point, maybe fought against one and was beaten quite handily.

If Shanks does have a family member/twin (etc) in the God's Knights, then they could be two sides of the same coin - Shanks is shown to protect the weak with his allied crews, the God's Knight 'Shanks' would be shown to protect the ultra-powerful. Both temperate, cunning, calculated characters but there is a lot Oda could do with this comparison. Bandits threaten Shanks, he brushes it off and moves on until they attack Luffy, then Shanks' ruthlessness is shown, perhaps God's Knight 'Shanks' kills mercilessly for nothing; if they are going to wipe out those rebelling then it would be an opportunity to introduce them this way. Shanks the Yonkou is a kind hearted, protector of the weak, fun loving guy, not what a pirate is 'meant' to be, and God's Knight 'Shanks' is a heartless, murdering, monster, not what a 'Holy' warrior of the World Government would be thought of as.
They (Holy Knights) might be related to the zodiac signs - "zodiac, in astronomy and astrology, a belt around the heavens extending 9° on either side of the ecliptic, the plane of Earth’s orbit and of the Sun’s apparent annual path" and shanks might be "gemini" which would make sense having a twin and a belt around the heavents like the protectors of the heavens which can be the gorosei and imu

It only makes sense that there's a group directly under the Gorosei (and Imu) _and_ to dispense justice amongst the Celestial Dragons. Or perhaps there's an equal share of power between the Gorosei and CDs to control the Holy Knights so one side can't take advantage of the other. But to do that, they also have to be CDs themselves or slightly above them.
It seems more plausible to me that the Holy Knights are on the same level if not higher than the Gorosei and answer only to Im, sort of like Emperor Palpatine’s imperial guard or the Secret Service.

I think evil twin/family member is a cheap trick and it would take away from shanks greatness as a character
It's all but guaranteed that who we thought was Shanks in Mariejois was a family member, maybe a brother or twin.. when Akainu first mentions the holy knights he makes a specific reference that they solely handle internal affairs amongst CDs.. when who we think to be Shanks visits Mariejois one of the gorosei specifically states 'considering your status you should stay away from politics'

Your chart at 14:34 could also correspond to the major arcs from Dressrosa(Fujitora is blind, Rosiinante sound fruit, Rebecca smelt the flowers for the first time in years, the toys tasted freedom when Usopp freed them, and Kyros couldn't feel the warmth of Rebecca as the toy soldier). Zou was intergrating sensory data to get ready for the yonko. Sanji gained a sense of self in Whole Cake after his history was revealed. Kaido was karma centric and came full circle with being taken down by Momo after he took Kaido down long ago and made Wano suffer. And now we're into the Buddha Nature where Sengoku is going to appear and reveal things.

I dont know if anybody thought about this but, there was a servant that had contact to imu in the anime right before their meeting with the gorosei. I think it might have been one of the holy knights. In my opinion it wouldnt make much sense for only a normal servant to have contact to the secret ruler of the world. The servant also seems to wear a coat that looks similar to the one that the Holy knight everyone is talking about wears. Also its hard to see but it looks like the servant ist holding on to something at their hip, might be their sword. Also hired a cool sounding voice actress for only about 5 words? Idk there might be something to it but im probably wrong.
I don't know what these Holy Knights will look like (whether or not one of them is related to Shanks in any way), or how powerful they will be in comparison to other characters, but I am now starting to wonder if any of them will end up becoming the "final" major opponents for some of the Strawhats when they face the World Government themselves!

Oda didn’t show shanks left eye when he met with the gorosei. Makes me think perhaps it could’ve been shanks brother, perhaps he wanted to speak to them about shanks. Perhaps that’s why shanks is so protected because the figarland family have made it clear that if the government kill or harm shanks they’ll rampage and from what we know shanks ferocity is immense, perhaps it’s a family thing

It is odd how Shanks appears to travel so fast, Dragon I get if he does have a mythical thunderbird fruit, but Shanks shouldn't be able to travel so fast unless he has an ability we don't know about yet. Plus looking at his Grand Fleet seeming so weak before Kidd was massacred makes it weird that the main Shanks would be an enforcer for the Government.
Maybe Imu can clone people or something that inspired Vegapunk to figure it out and the SMILE fruit too.

Shanks himself said that his left arm was a wager. He used that to bet on luffy and look at how luffy turned out. I get it, it's been a long time but shanks losing his arm is one of the most iconic moments in OP. Idk how you can forget the reason why he did what he did.

I'm just wondering how much knowledge Oda possess. Most of characters, groups and events are somehow related with the real world history and ancient books. That is so interesting and kind of amazing. One Piece is too good. It is even better because of your breakdown and One Piece community.

The way i see it, the 9 holy knights are the 9 red haired pirates
Theory: joy boy and shanks2 are part of the holy knights and were cloned. Shanks’ baby clone was freed and left on god valley by an unknown person and raised by pirates, Luffy was freed by Dragon and left with Garp. Shanks, since he knows the future that awaited them decides to mentor luffy and look after him from afar.
Thay wouldn't be interesting at all. I'm cool qith luffy have the sun God fruit but I like the idea he's from the clan of the downtrodden so to say and not some high and mivht celestial dragon actually.

Rocks D. Xebec was the previous leader of the god knights and wanted to sit on the empty throne and rule over the whole world by himself rather than serving "IMU". Shanks is the son of XEBEC and he asked Roger to save his son from WG and CD(Just like roger asked garp). Xebec was on god valley to get his son and wife who were kidnapped by his own family who wanted to become god knights by helping WG and CD in capturing Xebec. Thats when Roger agreed to find shanks and raise him as his own.Roger told the whole story to shanks when the roger pirates were disbanded.
Explanation on Shanks was spot on (IMO) I get so tired of everytime Oda dangles the Shanks lure in the water and everyone jumps on it...(Shanks is evil....blah blah) Besides that, the big DF in the background...no one seems to be talking about. Why are they standing in front of a DF?
I bet you these guys are tasked with defending the large Tree/Imu. Since we see Imu playing in the garden. Dragon knew when these guys move, it's gonna get real and now we're about to see, (possibly) Imu's personal guard get into it....this whole thing is just one big chess game and Oda's moving the other teams big players now...no more pawns.

as far as I remember - back in the chapter where they were still on their way to the reverie - Cobra was looking forward to is because he wanted to ask the Gorosei something? Or research something? I don't remember the detail but it had sounded like he found out something or gained some information he didn't previously have (might have been possibly researching the void century or the poneglyphs after his encounter with Robin at the end of Alabasta?) and that's why the Gorosei decided he's dangerous, or a wildcard they can't afford.

I belive Oda is setting up events for the gorosei member Garcia to die at egghead wich oda said before ! that a major incident in Egghead will shock the world

We do know that there are nine poneglyphs so what if originally the holy knights were supposed to protect each one of them? Imu and the WG clearly do not want the true history of the one piece world to be found, so it would make a lot of sense to put out their strongest weapons to protect them, however as the people in one piece start to grow in power they relinquished the mission to protect them, and therefore Imu sent them to disintegrate the rest of the rebelling kingdoms and the yonko.
What if Nefertari Cobra, Committed Suicide? Because the five elders wanted to gain access to the poneglyph, special hieroglyphs, that lead to the location of Pluton?
I'm too sure about that. I think they likely killed him If he didn't imply and then blamed his death on Sabo. But why would Cobra do that when he still has Vivi who would be greatly upset over her dad's passing?
Also cobra was the one who asked a meeting with the gorousei
The reason why he was killed was likely revealed in the discussion the gorosei had before kneeling to IMU, in that scene they discuss that if Cobra noticed something about a certain topic that would complicate things, it turns out Cobra knew more than he should.
I think the reason we haven't seen much of God Valley is that the holy knights were there. Whitebeard himself said "When I look at your face it makes my scars ache, the scars I got from *him*"

Don't know why but I wish a truly dramatic, surprising and thrilling expose of the void century. I can imagine Luffy and the others getting enough confused and someone revealing it to them one by one with Luffy himself getting serious and amazed ! That is the kind of effect personally feel would be satisfying for the audience of such a long anime/manga series. There should be some tension and seriousness in the air. The One Piece is (as Oda told) an object which when seen the One Piece ends then and there. So most critical episodes happens prior to it and can already feel the crew being teary eyed and joyful on reaching the One Piece 🙏 Ohh..... can't wait !

Perhaps it wasn't Shanks who met with the Five Elders during the Reverie, but a twin who is one of the Knights. The silhouette on the middle did resemble Shanks.
Shanks was a twin, but got seperated after the God Valley incident where he was found by Roger, while the other twin was kept by the Nobles.

I think one of the most telling things about this chapter is despite all of CP0/9's cameos Kaku was not seen amongst them ... further fueling suspicions that Kaku is either hiding something or is trying to quit being an assassin as he gives into peer pressure when near Lucci but is more truthful to others such as Zoro. With Zoro and Kaku together on Egghead Island perhaps we can get another heart-to-heart between the 2 as Zoro seems to respect Kaku somewhat and know what he really wants.

In the freezer that Imu goes to there seems to be exactly 9 arches 10:30 which one holds an artifact of joy boy, So my theory is that Imu summons them (The Holy Nights) by placing a unique object or relic from the past related to them on a pedestal or so. Which creates more mystery because the arches only have one illuminated section which is the one withholding Joy Boys relic, A straw hat 10:11 . Meaning he is the only summoned Holy Night that we known of thus far. And yes this is farfetched that he is a holy night but godly strength worthy of admirals, doesn’t seem too far off from joy boys strength and a possible shanks relative.

Holy Knights reveal is giving me serious Seven Deadly Sins vibes.
I think Shanks comes from the royal family of ,,Mars“ (red planet) which interprets with the God named Mars who had a set of twins (Remulus and Romus) who founded Rome.
The Romans first month is March (Shank‘s birthday) and they were cast away in a basket (Shanks was found in box on the GrandLine) and their mother is Rhea Silver (similar to Silvers Reyleigh).
Rome could then be interpreted as Marijois and the RedLine has a similar color to Mars which is just as Red as Shanks‘ hair.

that feels unlikely because they were talking about blackbeard in the conversation already since shanks was warning whitebeard about him - telling him to get ace to stay away - and blackbeard has those claws as a weapon... It would be a lot harder for a swordsman to do three cuts to the face all across one eye leaving scars somewhat equidistant apart than someone who had blades in between his knuckles

The knights being mention by akainu seems that the knights can’t be frozen beings. They must be knights that uphold order, and only came down because the kingdoms rebelled. There’s more too the food angle. They probably need the cd to be in a certain state to maintain themselves
I think it would be cool if each family just contributed one warrior to the holy knights it would make sense for them to have a strong group of people that are celestial dragons themselves and I feel like they should all have conquerors haki as they r from family's that took over the world

My theory is that the holy knights are from 800 years ago, possibility the original celestial dragons and the current celestial dragons are only kept alive as spare bodies or to produce spare bodies for the original celestial dragons that why they are treated so well and kept alive by Imu. So i have another point to compare and show the resemblance between the knights of templar you mentioned and the 9 gods knights.
When you said that there is a twist wherein the templars defended and protected travelers visiting the holy land but the holy knights protect / serve / defend the gods, there is actually a hidden simuluratiy / detail that G(oda) may have written.
In many theories from onepiece youtube , space pirates are mentioned and also that the world nobles might be descandants of visitors from outer space / the visitors themselves due to their astronaut-like attire and astronaut helmet they wear. Therefore if this theory is true , the world nobles are actually the visitors / "travellers".
So the 'gods' who are canonnically the world nobles and maybe even IM-sama are being protected by the holy knights and the 'visitors' in christianity / the bible are being protected by The (holy) Templar knights.
Along with the other mentioned parallels , this theory is very credible.
