I live and knit in Southern Ontario with my husband and my terrier. The name kuriaknits comes from my last name - Kurian. Kurian has Indian and Syrian origins and I feel lucky every day that my husband shared it with me.

For your cardigan I would knit both sleeves at the same time and if you find you're not going to have enough yarn you can get more yarn and alternate knitting from each skein to fade new yarn in in case there is some slight color difference.

For the shibui lunar yarn …. Check out the Oxford circus sweater… it alternates the two you have and makes a super lightweight beautiful sweater. I used silkpaca by malabrigo alternating with silk mohair and it came out amazing…
I work a lot with thin cotton yarns, so I know about that dent in the finger... By now I've build up a bit of cornea, helps a lot. But before that I tried:
1. Yarn/tension rings (especially resin ones from Etsy) - didn't really work with my annoyingly thin fingers, but might work for others!
2. Silicone or plastic finger sleeves (there are even ones specifically for knitting). Basically a longer, more flexible thimble - work ok if you don't have long nails.
3. Silicone tube bandages for fingers/toes - my favorite. Like a wide silicone ring. Ideally pick ones that are more matte on the outside, so they don't stick to the yarn.
LisaR- have you considered a shell top for the shibui yarn ? Just a basic cap or sleeveless - transition piece and dress up or down , layering piece .Much more time in rotation than a hat probably ❤

It's sweet how you talk about your dog, I see you have lots of love for him😊 I adopted an Indian Pariah from the streets of India, as she's a complicated and a sensitive dog, she got me into dog related problem fixing that lead to working with difficult dogs. I realised vets are the least competent in dog behaviour, often prescribing medication that doesn't fix the issue. I only leave medical body problems to them.
From my experience CBD has been great for my sensitive dog if taken correctly (and for me while working extremely stressful job) but CBD alone will NOT be a cure without behaviour training. The training should be fair to the dog. Often the training happens in regular situations (how we go about our daily life) rather than when the problematic situation erupts. Dogs love structure, that makes them feel safe, they like to feel that they don't have to be in charge of the situation and the owner. The way how to tell that to the dog is slightly different than to a human. Really good dog/people trainers are rarity. I would suggest to check out Tom Davis, Upstate Canine Academy. I feel for you and your anxious dog. I have also been at my wits end at times and tried many things. Right now we have him on CBD oil. He is at least not pacing and shaking as much at night. More info on dosage if you want it. As for the finger groove, I use moleskin (from the drugstore). It works great. For a reusable finger wrap, I make all sizes needed from Flexx-Rap or High-Friction Guard Tape from Lee Valley. Would freezing your yarn cone make you feel better? Thanks for the great podcast
I'm really late getting to this but I have a friend who actually ended up getting an anxiety dog for her dog. It was a pretty similar situation to what you described, and it was definitely a last resort, but getting another dog really, really helped.
Don't tempt us haha. We would love too. Tough to know if they will be a good fit though.
I also bought 2 skeins of lunar in the Shibui sale! But my store was out of the mohair. I’m probably going to make some kind of bralette so I can wear this close to skin. Great video :)

I once learned about reducing anxiety in pets when you leave the house: you should act as if nothing was happening, just say nothing and go out. If you're all like: oh my baby, it's gonna be ok, i'm not going to be out a long time, you'll be a good boy, whatever, then the animal's going to be like: what? what's going on? why is mom trying to calm me down? is there something to be stressed about? I am super stressed right now, what's happening?
I don't know how well it works, we've been trying to hide from our cats when we travel, like we'd take the suitcase out literally 30min before departure, and still my cats gets sick 2 days before, like he knows we're going to leave, it's crazy!
Hey the love note, I made it a couple months ago it’s so easy and it’s great just make sure you pick the right size cause I made mine too small and it’s pretty fitted I like it but I wanted it to be positive ease so just make sure you gauge swatch
When I crochet I use a finger thimble ring thing and now that I knit continental I use it as well. Honestly it’s a game changer. I got it when I ordered a hook set a few years ago 🥰

@@kuriaknits No, I'm not sure how to share a photo but it's a solid piece of metal that's a circle and... maybe 1/2 - 3/4 the width of a digit.
I am also a very lose knitter and it kind of starts to become a problem for projects where I need to go down from a 3.5 mm to a 2.0 where I don't even have that small of a needle...
Something I saw Lisa from And Sew On podcast recommend some time ago, was to stop pushing the stitches on the right needle. I do this too, because it feels like it tightens them more, and she said she thought so too, but that it actually widens the gap between that stitch and the next one. Which makes sense really..
So I want to try out not pushing them anymore for my next gauge swatch, and see if it helps with tightness.
Hmm - I'm not sure I do this but I'll watch out for it.
I'm making a Lumme! It's my second stranded project, third colour work project in general, as I tried mosaic knitting once. I've been looking at the Lumme lovingly since it came out, but thought I was too inexperienced in stranded to try it. I loved yours so much after seeing it in your last video that I decided to cast it on. Seriously in love with it!

Ever since my dog was a puppy, I’ve played sleep or meditation type music at bedtime and when we have to leave her alone then all she does is sleep. When we’ve had work people in the house, she stays in my office with the door closed and I will turn the sleep/meditation music up fairly loud so it will drown out the noise outside of the office.
Shibui is going out of business???! I love their yarns (and I'm not really the kind of person who stocks up on stash - last time I did that was 4 yrs ago and I still have too much of the yarn I couldn't see myself living without). That's really too bad. I would definitely buy at least 1 more skein of each if you want to have enough for a sweater. That yarn is exceedingly slender (that's a real lace-wight) and you may discover that you cannot get the gauge you think you will from the combo. BTW, re: Nutiden, I haven't worked with it - it's just not something that resonates with me as a knitter, at least at the moment - but I love watching podcasts that discuss it. I have heard that, apparently, the colours vary in softness wildly because they yarns used to make the roving are not always from the same kinds of sheep. Colour does influence the softness but I think it's actually more about which fibres they use in any given batch. Just keep that in mind in case you opt to buy more. It may feel more like the Plotulopi than you would anticipate - though admittedly, of all the unspun yarns, that lopi wins for roughness every time.
I finally tried the hand knit cycle on my machine, only used it twice so far but wow! What a time saver and no disasters (so far, hope I'm not jinxing myself).

If your new washer has a wool cycle then it should be totally fine to wash all your hand knots in the washing machine. I’ve always done it and not once a knit has been ruined. I do set the temperature on the lowest but I do nothing else. I find with washing my knitwear in the washing machine they don’t come out soaking wet like with hand washing and it’s easier to dry them. I do always have to make sure there like enough fabric in the washing machine, because if I just put one sweater in it, it will cling to one side of the washing machine and the washing machine won’t turn.

If you want to try and tighten your gauge try knitting a different way….. if your a continental knitter try throwing or the opposite….. being able to knit both ways helps with working colour work you can use both hands. I was a thrower for years and then tried continental and this is my ew go too but I do throw when working stranded colour work.
I have tried throwing and it was a disaster! Good for you for learning both styles.

It may be worth having a look at the Ravelry stash trade/sell feature to see if someone has some of the yarn you need for your oversized seasons cardigan. Maybe someone has some leftovers they are happy to part with or trade? I did the same last week as I am planning to knit the Seasons Cardigan in Purl Soho Understory which has been discontinued. I am one skein short but then found another knitter who had one skein in the right color. We ended up swapping as I had a skein in the color she was looking for.
I finished one sleeve and I think I'll have enough! Thank goodness, but good advice!
Leukotape works well to protect your hands from knitting and has a very intense zinc based glue so it stays on very well. I cut patches of it doubled sometimes for my right index finger where I poke the needle often and it doesn’t get in the way at all and stays put even with very tiny patches that don’t get in the way.

They make leather thimbles for knitting
It may help winding the silk mohair and the fingering yarn together into a ball. Same with the two strands of Nutiden. Oh my god I’ve been knit/purling my way through the first 80% of a half finshermans rib cardigan and you’re telling me I can knit the wrong side? 😭😭😭

For the finger issue- how about trying one of those rings intended for color work? it threads the yarn through a metal eye... wait, you just said what I was typing. Great minds think alike, clearly. What is the crochet video, I didn't see a link, and I, too, have saggy necklines to correct.

Happy New Year! I have some friends who have tried CBD for their pets to help with anxiety and excitement with success. I know you can get "pet grade" CBD and might be worth looking into?
