A childhood toy sparked a lifelong fascination with pandas that coaxed Abe Nobuko to move away from her native Japan to work in China taking care of the animals. She has become a dedicated advocate for the creatures at the Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding.

Much respect to Abe Nobuko for taking the time to not only learning the language, but wanting to come over and take care of our pandas in Chengdu. Looks like it can be demanding work at times so everyone should thank her and all the other panda keepers.

"nearly perfect mandarin" is an understatement. She is more eloquent than many native speakers. I wish I had as much passion in something as she does in pandas. Respect!

In japan she'd just be worked to death in the insane japanese work culture. So it's a smart idea to just follow her passion and work in a job she actually enjoys
She literally said she put off her day just to take care of panda. Aka working herself overtime. Difference is, she is pursuing a passion instead of being a robot.

After graduating from Chengdu, she became a panda keeper in Japan. Unfortunately, the first panda cub she took care of only lived for 60 days. Attacked by Japanese netizen, she was forced to return to China.
I can't believe it. This Japanese girl learnt so much Mandarin so that she can keep pandas. The skill set could be otherwise used to make business explorations. e.g. imagine how much she would make if she runs a ticktok account just showing what she does on the job.
I'm jealous of pandas. All they need to do is eat and play and sleep and people are still like awww, you are cute…Imagine we do the same…
