I eat at Waffle House at least once a month with friends after work. I love how you can customize your meal there. The place has a very carefree live and let live attitude that I enjoy.

I love both. I went to a Waffle House once on a late night drive to the beach. It was about 2 am, near Wilmington. They checked us for weapons at the door. We didn't have any so they gave me a 22, the wife a buck knife and our toddler and filed down butter knife. Great meal, great entertainment and the only fight was between a cook and waitress. 5 stars.
It depends on the location you go to. Just because you go to one location doesn't mean they're all like that.

Years back I picked up a friend at the bus station at 3am, so we stopped at Waffle House. The whole time we were there, this police officer was slinking around, trying to look everyone in the eye, like he was sneaky or something! About the 3rd time he came by our table I spoke directly to him, and invited him to have a cup of coffee with us! He had a panic stricken look on his face and he shot out the door!? What the heck? When we left he was outside scoping everyone’s car out. Like Dick Tracy or something, all kinds of weird people at the Waffle House!

dining experience? are you some kind of dipshit soyboy? any establishments "dining experience" is based on the employees that fucking work there. The cracker barrel I go to has this old lady who never refills my drink and takes forever to make first contact. So i know to not let her take my drink order without my meal order because its gonna be 5 minutes before she comes back with my water.
Cracker Barrel is the fancy place. It's where you go when you want the whole experience.
Waffle House is the reliable place. It's where you go when no one else is open, and you know exactly what you're getting.

Y'all know Anthony Bordain had a pecan waffle at the Waffle House when he went to Atlanta and he said it was better than French Laundry. That being said, I can't choose one over the other. They're both pretty amazing for different reasons. Waffle House: Scattered, smothered, covered, chunked, and topped for me. Cracker Barrel: Chicken & Dumplings all the way. I have more fun memories involving Waffle House, but every time I eat at Cracker Barrel, I leave with a happy food high. Really, y'all, it's neck and neck.

Every time my family goes on a road trip, for dinner we eat Cracker Barrel. We also get their peppermint sticks. I HIGHLY recommend them.

I made a point to stop at both during my long road trip but Cracker Barrel definitely made my mouth 1000% happier. The hash brown casserole at Cracker Barrel is my favorite.

The two creepiest dining experiences I've ever experienced were at Waffle House. The second one so bad we ordered our food to go and ate it in the car, after several hours of driving, just to put distance between the people there and our kids.
Cracker Barrel is a Southern-themed country gift shop with a Denny's restaurant decorated in rural kitch. I's all about the set dressing.
By contrast, Waffle House is a 24 hour diner. Plain and simple. No fake "country" decorations.
Both have their merits. Cracker barrel is definitely a family style restaurant that you can enjoy each others company and relive dinner at granny's house. Waffle house is more of hanging with friends type establishment. Late night after Saturday night drag racing or meeting up for a quick hot meal with your friends you haven't seen in a while. Both have a wide array of options on the menu. But I always and I mean always get double quater bacon plate with double hash browns scattered, smothered and covered. These two places along with chick fil'a are the epitome of dining out in the south. So dig in and enjoy ya'll.
Went to both for the first time with coworkers at 2 different jobs. 2nd job is better and so was Cracker Barrel

I’ve never said, “let’s go to Waffle House”... yet I am always ready to go to crackle barrel.
We're the opposite at our house.
Cracker barrel. Delicious food, the wait while long wasnt so bad with the store, games and the rocking chairs. And the decor always fascinated me growing up. And the fire place made it feel more like home. Was as close to home cooking as I would get growing up unless it was a holiday or get together. And playing games with my dad while everyone talked made it even more special to me. We have very few up here though so for my husband and I it's become the special occasion food 😆 and mine always forgets either the corn bread or biscuits.

I've loved both at different stages of life. Waffle House was my college love. They were open at 3 am as I stumbled through the streets of Auburn after a night at the bar with my friends. I'll always have fond memories of it. After all, its not a waffle house, its a waffle home.
Cracker Barrel is where you go when you go out to eat with Nana and Pappaw after church. Good food, good atmosphere, good place for family.
They're both great, it just depends on who you're with.
I’ve eaten at both, and I lean more towards Waffle House. I love the nostalgia, I love the food (I can scarf an all star breakfast down by myself), I love that it’s open 24/7 (God bless the employees) and I have met the greatest people there. I'd assume that the reason you saw so many cops at your Waffle House were 1- It's open 24hrs 2-Fast cheap food & good (reportedly), quick to-go coffee 3-Fair chance of running into someone with BOLO or warrant, AKA saving time.
Hey, keep in mind I say this as someone who worked at a Waffle House (briefly) & had some of the best people watching & work place stories 2nd only to working at a strip club. Never a boring time in either one....concerned for my safety a few times, but NEVER bored!

Cracker Barrel hands down! The last time I ate at a Waffle House in San Antonio I got food poisoning. It's no longer there but Cracker Barrel still stands across the USA in the South. And I sure as hell do you miss Shoney's! That was another good place to eat!

I worked a job in Florida once, and the guy in charge of our transportation had us eat at Waffle House, twice. It was like someone wanted to run a Denny's, but didn't want to spend any money doing it. The menus were literally just photos of the food with numbers... It was one of the most "Meh" dining experiences of my life.
