I have a Grundig G6 Aviator Buzz Aldrin Edition with SSB, Tecsun PL-330 & 660, and the Eton Elite Executive. The Grundig is too sensitive and overloads, but the others work great. I bought the 330 because it can be set where you can use external AM antennas and I like doing antenna experiments. It`s about as sensitive on AM as the CCrane radios using the small AN-200 inductive loop directly connected to it and I plan to rig up some of my much better homemade loops for a direct connection to it soon. I keep forgetting to order a mono plug adapter. Ordering some now.
I really liked the G6 for it's size and casual use. But the coating on mine broke down and turned to a mess that was sticky and would come off on your hands if you touched it.
At this price level they should've added Air band like the PL-660 also RDS would've been nice. They should have put dust plugs on where the charger goes in, which should've been USB-C for this money.
Ahoy sir! Between you and Gilles , you both pretty much made my decision easy. No regrets!! For those that aren't comfortable with the bail stand, you can order a plastic radio stand on Amazon. Keep rolling the vids👍
@@hamrad88 No, I don't mean the jacks. One half inch directly below the Bass knob, one inch to the left of the earphones jack, are three parallel diagonal slits in the case of the radio. I haven't seen or read a single review of the H-501x that mentions that rather obvious (to me) detail on the front of the radio.
@@valuedshortwavelistener1203 I missed that too but someone replied that it is for the microphone. There is nothing in the manual about it or even the BT feature.
Hi Tom loved the video can you tell me if the radio has 2 usb ports on the right one to charge the radio and one to power it can you power the radio and at the same time select which battery you want to charge thank you very much Joe
No. It only has one on the right side to charge the radio. You can use this to power the radio but the manual says you will get a lot on noise while listening to the radio.
I'm torn between buying the H-501x and the S-8800 and trying to figure out the pros and cons that separate these two. Any of your thoughts would be appreciated.
@@hamrad88 Thanks. It seems the H-501x stereo speakers are an advantage and I know you weren't too fond of the readability of the buttons on the S-8800. Are there any other particular features or performance advantages that make you prefer the H-501x?
What's the battery life lie on this radio now you've had it a while? I've seen complaints about battery not last log at all...how's your radio doing in that respect?
The batteries supplied with this and other radios like this are generic. So life will vary a lot. I did a test before and got 45+ hours playing continuous. I have other radios with the same generic battery and they will play various length but the variable is the radio. i would not just this radio by the batteries that are supplied and get some good batteries. It will use up batteries faster with its super audio section.
Awesome video. Didn't know there was so many different radios. 👍 This radio is nice.

@@daveryan2148 There is a product that will remove the mess. I did a show on it a couple of years ago.

Very good post . I might have to try that one myself , as much as I love my Eton 750.
Thanks and have a great day.

I use long wire antenna on all of my recievers
The upgradeed Ats 25 I love
What is the purpose of the three slot apertures in the lower left corner of the front of the radio, beneath the Bass knob?
Do you mean the jacks?
@@hamrad88 think he is talking about the microphone that is installed for taking calls on bluetooth...yep thats a mike...

how does the radio size up next to your 750 grundig ? the elites are still for sale on amazon, just curious?
It has a lot more features overall and the reception is better too.
